Kelsey provided hair and make-up services for myself and make-up services for my bridesmaids for my December wedding. She was incredibly helpful and responsive while planning and arranged for another hair stylist to come with her to assist in doing my bridesmaids' hair. Both she and the other stylist were incredibly professional and sis spectacular work. Several guests comments on how well everyone's hair and make-up turned out. I would definitely use Kelsey again!

Wow. First off, I need to say that Crystal is an absolute sweetheart. I hired Crystal to do my wedding hair and makeup. She is professional and so very easy to work with, it really put me at ease. Crystal is very knowledgable and extremely creative. I would describe something to her, and she knew exactly what I was talking about and how to best fit it to my look. She offered many ideas and choices, and explained how each would have an effect (i.e. make my eyes look bluer, or green, etc). I also have very fine, long, style-less hair. She made it look amazing! This woman is seriously talented. As an older bride (early 40's), I really didn't know what to expect, as my more "beautiful years" are long gone. Can I tell you I have NEVER felt more beautiful than I did that evening? I felt more beautiful that night, than I ever did 20 years ago. Even my best friend kept telling me "I have never seen you look this gorgeous!" My son told me I looked like a princess, and I honestly felt like one. Everyone kept gushing over how amazing I looked. I will absolutely contact Crystal Drake again for any hair and/or professional makeup needs I may have. Thank you, Crystal, for being an instrumental part of our special day, and for making me feel like the beautiful princess every bride should feel like on her wedding day! You were amazing, and I cannot thank you enough!

Jackie does such an amazing job I am so happy to have found her. I have since recommended her to my best friend for her engagement pictures along with several other friends for their engagement pictures and weddings. Jackie does an incredible job with keeping makeup and hair looking light, natural, and fresh. I have had her do my makeup twice and both times I received so many compliments on how natural but stunning the makeup looked. She really knows what she's doing and I will continue to hire her for future events.

Sarah did an excellent job on my hair and makeup for my wedding. I spoke with her on the phone before booking everything. She asked that I send her photos of hair styles and makeup I liked as well as pictures of myself with and without makeup. She also had some suggestions of her own. My hair and makeup lasted all day and night! Thank you!

Also big plus is she is not scissor HAPPY she actually wants to see your hair grow. I have not been disappointed on any of my hair styles. Shannon's Styling

Shannon is so great! She did my hair and makeup (along with my 5 bridesmaids) for my wedding, and she was so accommodating throughout the entire process. Shannon brought all of her equipment to us, and we were able to get ready at my house. We all had a different style/twist to our look, and it suited each one of us. She was able to cater each up-do she did to match what we were hoping for...and totally exceeded our expectations! My girlfriend is also hoping to book Shannon for her upcoming wedding because she did such an amazing job! It also doesn't hurt that Shannon is laid back and so much fun to have around for your special event. I felt like she should be celebrating at the reception with us! If I ever need an up-do or professional makeup done in the future...Shannon is my girl! :)

Love Viva La Glam!! My daughter‘s makeup was amazing and Noelle saved us with a last minute booking! She was running late with her hair (done somewhere else that I wouldn’t really recommend) and the makeup artist we had booked couldn’t do later. Noelle fit us in between appts, helped touch up her hair, and even let my daughter change there!! Will be booking hair and makeup for prom for sure next year!! “

I am an educated stylist offering beautiful hair. I am a hair color specialist. I am also a color educator for a major color brand company. I have trained with them for the past 5 years, refining my color and cutting skills. My customers would say they love my professional approach to the consultation, and how I really tell them the truth. I am very personable, and my prices are very fair! In a time of a recession, we all need a little room. I also wax, do formal styles for every occasion, free consultations, and sell retail. I do not do sew in extensions, I am not qualified to do textured hair. I can preform micro link extensions and fusions extensions. I have an amazing team for traveling, for different events, weddings, proms, girls nights out. Your imagination is the limit!

I truly enjoy my line of work. I like to make people feel wanted, appreciated, and of course beautiful after their services with me. I am also very reasonable on my pricing, not to high that you can only afford to come to me once. I look out for their best interest, since i understand what it is like t go out and have to spend soo much on your hair!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mobile hairdresser?

A mobile hairdresser is a cosmetologist trained to cut, color and style hair who can provide hairdressing services at remote locations. Often, mobile hairdressers are hired for events such as weddings, bachelorette parties, prom night, birthdays and other occasions. The hairstylist can come to your location to do your hair, or provide hairstyling for your group.

For events, mobile hairstylists more often provide updos and formal styles than highlights or hair color. Mobile hairdressers bring all the necessary hairstyling tools and products such as lotions and sprays to create your look. The national average cost for a hairstylist is $70-$110. Pricing for different services can vary greatly depending on stylist reputation, training and regional rates. For example, haircuts could range between $35 and $150, while hair coloring services could range in price from $65 to $200. Some mobile hairstylists may include the cost of travel in their fees, while other may have it as an added charge, such as 50 cents to $1 for each mile beyond their standard service range.

    What is a hair extension?

A hair extension is a beauty product designed to give you the appearance of longer and/or fuller hair. Hair extensions are made of synthetic material or real human hair and are attached to your natural hair by a variety of techniques such as a weave (sewing), hot fusion, tape-in, cold fusion, bonding, metal clips, micro ring or micro loops, and more. The type of technique you select as well as the quality and volume of the hair you choose all affect cost. Hair extensions can last anywhere from three weeks to six months, depending on the application technique. For example, tape-in extensions may last approximately four weeks, while extensions applied using a hot fusion technique may stay in for up to six months. The hot fusion technique takes longer, costs more, and requires more training on the part of the hair stylist, but the result is more natural-looking extensions that can be washed and heat-styled with confidence.

    What is a seamless extension?

A seamless hair extension is a type of clip-on hair extension. The extension hair is called the weft. Near the top of the weft, a metal clip mounted to the weft on a silicone base is used to attach the extension to your natural hair. In a traditional clip-on extension, the base that attaches the metal clip to the weft is fabric.

People may prefer seamless extensions due to their lower profile; the silicone can be up to 50 percent thinner than the fabric, making the extension appear more natural — and, therefore, seamless. Seamless extensions usually can be washed (although you shouldn’t keep them submerged for more than 20 seconds) and heat-styled on lower heat settings. You can gently brush seamless hair extensions as well as have them dyed a darker color by a trained professional.

How much should you tip a hairstylist?

A hairstylist can provide you with a cut, color or highlights, or style your hair for an event. The national average cost for a hairstylist is $70-$110, but prices can vary greatly depending on the service you receive, where you live, and the salon’s or hairdresser’s reputation. A good rule of thumb is to tip your hairstylist 20 percent of your total bill. In smaller towns, 15 percent may be the norm, but in larger cities 20 percent is generally the baseline. If you frequent a salon where the shampooer, colorist, and hair cutter are all different people, you can divide that 20 percent among those service providers in proportion to the skill level and time required to do their job. Many hairstylists rent a chair from the salon and must pay a monthly rent to the salon owner.

How much do hair extensions cost?

Hair extensions are synthetic or real human hair integrations that add volume and length to your hair. Hairstylists are trained in different techniques to attach extensions to your hair. The cost of extensions can vary greatly depending on the technique used to apply the hair, as well as the type of hair you select. Synthetic hair is typically the least expensive, human hair is next on the pricing scale, remy hair is next, and what is called “virgin” human hair is generally the most sought-after and most expensive. Remy hair signifies that all the cuticles are intact and running in the same direction, making for smoother hair extensions in the long term. Hair is deemed virgin when all the hair is from one donor and has never undergone any chemical processing. Hair prices will vary from company to company; here are some examples of hair from online retailers.

    • Virgin strands (25 strands weighing approximately 1 gram each) for hot fusion application: $44 per bundle.
    • Virgin hair weave (approximately 4 ounces per package): $149 each.

Here are some sample application costs from hairstylists.

    • Full sew-in: $175-$200 or more.
    • Partial sew-in: $125 or more.
    • Micro-link weft extensions: $300 or more.
    • Full-bonded extensions: $75 or more.
