I hired these movers to help me unload my truck into my new apartment. Andre and Tim were a few minutes early and that is always a good thing. They were very professional and took great care while moving my things. I will be hiring them again for any of my moving needs.

We had to move out on extremely short notice and we were scrambling to find a moving company. Spoke with Gail and she could get a crew to help us the next day! This meant we did not have a lot of time to pack anything so we agreed to a third person to help with the packing and moving. Moving day came and I got a phone call from the crew letting me know roughly when they would be arriving. About an hour before the crew arrived Ron came to see what all needed to be packed and moved. He was very respectful and I appreciated the open communication. When Salvador, David, and Ross arrived they immediately got to work and worked their butts off to pack and move our three bedroom house with lots of very difficult furniture to move. They we very respectful and careful with our items and we actually had some fun while doing all this. They took their break after everything was loaded and met us at the storage unit right on time and unloaded the trailer in record time while managing to pack everything in the unit with awesome tetris skills! There were absolutely no hidden fees and we were charged exactly what we were told we would be for the hourly rate and supplies and everything. Well worth the money we paid and we will definitely be using this company again when it comes time to move out of the storage unit and into our next house! Very very impressed with the work they did and will recommend them to anyone! Great job guys!

They did a great job moving our piano! They moved it around until it was exactly where we wanted, and they were extremely careful the whole time. Not a speck of dirt or a scratch on our piano or floor when they left!

I had moved out of state and needed some miscellaneous items I couldnt fit into the Uhaul removed from my garage. I got ahold of Rob, and he nearly had the job done before I hung up the phone. Not only did he dispose of them...but he cleaned out the garage as well, very professional. Excellent Service - Highly Recommended

Tyler and Cody just finished our move, where they made quick work of moving a garage FULL of furniture and household items into our new home. They were very personable, hard working, careful, and thorough. We are so grateful for their help and flexibility when our closed date changed unexpectedly. I can't recommend them enough!

It was a long distance move and Joe did a exceelent job, what we are looking for. Aanplanned, he came day before moving day and loaded our stuff and left the truck at our place. Again on next day he drove the truck to our new home along with us. He and his team did the unloading right then immediately we reached our place. I highly recomend Joe.

It was a tough day for a move-sleeting and unpleasant as only in Minnesota‘s late February. Jordan and Darnell showed up in the 26 foot monster, anyway, leaving no doubt that we could get everything in in one load. I joined them in lifting and we got the items in the truck in about an hour, saving a little time and labor expense. Sure enough, two hours later we were done after schlepping things up to the 3rd floor without elevators. Great job, Jordan and Darnell. Everything shipshape and in its place! Thank you.

The two guys who helped me out this morning were awesome! They were on time, punctuality is important to me so that was on point, neat and tidy with the "red carpet" they rolled out to keep our floors clean, had respect for my home and my antique furniture by wrapping my precious items carefully and loading/unloading them in such a manner as not to cause any damage to my pieces, (my items moved are over 100 years old) and completed the job in a quick and efficient manner. I love it when people know exactly what they're doing and already have their plan in place prior to arriving. That's exactly what I got! Also, not only were they professional but they were super friendly, and just nice/good people. The price was fair and affordable with no extra charge for carrying items up/down stairs. I would absolutely use them again and would also recommend them to others as well. Thank you again Paul Bunyun Moving LLC, for a great moving experience. I am a very happy and satisfied customer! Big Up!!

Too many items were damaged. They hire out labor with questionable experience. I don’t feel they would be good fit for long distance moving. Local moving is what they should be their focus.

I hired College Moving Labor to help load our furniture into a moving container. The crew showed up 45 min late, damaged our furniture (i watch them drop it) and didn't have the integrity to tell me. Instead i had to bring it up with their manager (who just claimed that they would take zero responsibility, because their crew members claim that they had NO CLUE anything like that happened). After the crew left, I had to spend 2 hours repacking our moving container so that boxes and furniture wouldn't fall over or bounce around in transit. Furniture and other personal items could have been easily damaged or destroy as s result of items fall and moving while in transit. We have moved 11 times over 12 years and this was the worst overall performance we have experienced with any company.

Aaron and Jake were the assigned movers and they did a great job in moving my stuff. They are super quick and they did everything in under 3 hours which in my past experience took easily over 4 to 4.5 hrs . They put the furnitures in required places and worked out a very tight corner to out my sofa in the basement . They can still better themselves by bringing wrapping materials as well. They do have all blankets and none of my furnitures got a single scratch . Very happy and recommend everyone to try them out for their moving needs .

Paul was very helpful preparing an estimate for our move. He helped us with cost saving moving tips (like getting everything ready in the garage to make it faster for the movers). The moving crew showed up on time and worked quickly to move our items. We didn't have a single thing damaged. I highly recommend Piepho Moving.

We hired Campus Labor to move this weekend. They replied to our initial inquiry promptly and provided us with a quote within an hour. They arrived early, and were so polite and helpful. We had a lot of books and heavy furniture and everything was removed from our old house and into our new house in five hours. Plus, the prices were great! Would definitely recommend!

The movers at AmerApex Moving could not have done a better job moving our belongings over 2,000 miles away. The crew was on time, polite, very careful, and kept the move fun and in good spirits. Nothing was damaged and the price did not budge a penny. Thank you again for making my move across country stress free. I will be recommending AmerApex Moving to all my friends and family!

I have used this company a few times and highly recommend their service. Both times they have shown up on time or even a bit early, and when they are there, they are all business. They get in and out quickly and put a lot of detail into loading their trucks to ensure your belongings will arrive safely. It doesn’t matter if you are moving across town or across the country, you can’t go wrong with this company

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.
