Introduction: Samantha's educational background and passion for teaching has led her to strive in the creating of new genera of versatile classical and musical theater performers to meet current demands and crossover classical singers. As a teacher, Mrs. Laumann strives for vocal health with a foundation of classical technique and training. She teaches multiple musical theater styles including 20s - 2000s, pop, folk, as well as classic art songs and arias in French, German and Italian.
My teaching philosophy is built upon the importance of music education, vocal health, technique, musicality and a passion for music. By having a firm foundation in classical technique, any genera can be achieved. Each voice is unique and different from all others, and my goal is to help you discover, strengthen, and expand your voice and fall in love with music. I believe that anyone can learn how to sing, no matter what age, experience, or background.
In a lesson, I work on ear training, resonance, organic tone production, intonation, breath support, and music/song and character interpretation. I use various tools to help free the voice from the obstacles of body and mind so that the voice will be producing a natural, free sound.
For the inspiring actor, I offer individual coaching on monologue preparation, script and score analysis, character analysis, imaging, and techniques based off of Stanislavski, Grotowski, Meisner, and Suzuki methods.
For pianists, I work with beginner through intermediate advanced students. I used Bastian and Alfred piano lesson series, as well as classics from Bach inventions, Chopin waltz or contemporary music from film scores.
I welcome students to prepare their choice of repertoire, but as a teacher, I also provide a vast repertoire when needed. I want you to love what you are singing or working on, but also be open to working on new or not-so-familiar pieces as well to expand your repertoire. I have high expectations and goals I set for my students, and I expect students to be on time and prepared for lessons. It is my goal not only to develop fine musicians, but artists.

Words can't describe how grateful I am to have studied under Samantha. When I first started lessons with her, I was a chorister interested in learning a little more about singing and testing the waters of the music world. Now, I'm going into Davidson College as an aspiring music major - with a voice scholarship. Samantha made me fall utterly in love with music. I can't believe how far I've come after two years of lessons. I've learned so much from her - everything from theory to breathing techniques to Italian pronuciation. She helped me gain confidence and get over my stage fright. She constantly pushed me to accomplish new goals. She helped me successfully navigate the nightmarish process of college auditions. And, most importantly, she became an incredible mentor and friend. I never would have gotten to this point if it weren't for her compassion, her constant smile, and her unrelenting faith in my abilities. She has been an amazing inspiration to me, and anyone would be lucky to learn from her.

I worked with Samantha for a little over a year. I had never worked with a vocal coach before, but I highly suggest that if you are looking for one, you consider her. Over the course of a year, she helped me improve my breathing, my sound, and taught me various vocal exercises. I always looked forward to my weekly lesson with her, and she never failed to make my time with her enjoyable. Working with Samantha has been a wonderful experience. As a performer from the Twin Cites, I was looking for a vocal coach who is was proficient in Musical Theatre, who could provide guidance in my quest to future my career. although, I have only been working with Samantha for a few months, I feel I have come so far in my vocal performance. She had helped me clean up bad habits and strengthen prior techniques from several years of voice lessons, show choir and other musical theatre training. She has helped prepare we with skills and insight to succeed with auditioning, growing as an artist, and most importantly maintaining a healthy voice. Her knowledge is invaluable. As a fellow dancer she knows where my training is and provides unique techniques that blend smoothly with my other training, to help develop a well rounded performance package. I am so thankful that I found her studio on Thumbtack, she has been an absolute joy to work with.
