DO NOT TRUST TIM KOHNER. Tim avoids liability by having you pay individuals directly and claiming no responsibility for the work of people he brings into your home. The electrician Tim invited to my house was fined $14,500 by the state of MN because he had no license or electrical education (see MN Dept of Labor for more info on Dingmann Electric).I felt like I was being taken advantage of when, after paying in full, Tim began demanding additional money without providing change orders and then abandoned the work.I took Tim to court and the judge in my case said: Kohner Construction was negligent, breached our contract and "had no right to refuse to do the contracted work and insist being paid on the additional work they had performed. They should have finished the work in the bid"Here are similar BBB complaints About Tim Kohners business dealings that have recently been archived:May 2015 BBB Complaint:We received a bid from Tim at Hannah's Haven LLC to remodel our kitchen, master bathroom and tile the flooring in another bathroom. Tim bid the job by day and we were to supply all the materials that we picked out on our own. He showed up on start day and demolished our kitchen down to nothing. ... My fridge is in the family room along with the range, my dishwasher is in the dining room along with the microwave. He stated he had some family issues that took him away from our job and he stated he was behind on the previous job and had approximately 3 days left on the previous job. We were understanding about the issues. At the end of these issues there was one excuse after another and he would give us a day here an a day there.He contacted us today via text message and quit the job because he's too far behind. He has left us with no floor in, cabinets not finished, ceiling needing patched, sheetrock not all up, not mudded or taped, and none of the bathrooms done. He text us that he cleaned out the garage and he's done - very unprofessional. We feel he's been lying to us from the very beginning. It appears to us that he underbid the job and prior to quitting, he started getting bids to sub out some of the work. Since he bid the job by the day - he owes us money. His bid included everything but the electrical and the plumber but he said he had them available for us and that was not true. He had no one available so we had to find out own. TOct 2015 BBB Complaint:Paid 3/4 owing to HH's but this amount of work not done before T Kohner walked off job. What work was done is shoddy and must be redone at huge cost. We hired Tim to do a kitchen and bathroom remodel etc. His work habits are... slow, sloppy, disorganised; his work quality is of middling standard, lacking attention to detail.Almost all of the he actually did before walking away from the job will have to be un-done before it can be re-done, significantly adding to our costs. About two weeks into the job, the amount of work became too much for Tim and he got slower and increasingly unfocused going from one task to another without ever actually finishing anything.Tim does not work with a proper crew but only brings in very young and unschooled 'helpers'.Three months into the job, having paid Tim over three quarters of money owing, there was more than one quarter left of work to do: the bathroom, kitchen, outdoor stairway, much of drywall, electrics, plumbing and details too numerous to list were still not near completion.Tim then announced he was going on holiday and took all of his tools and has not been seen since. We informed him by email that we would be writing a negative Thumbtack review and taking legal action if he did not return to site, but still he has not done so. He instead continues to insist that we pay other contractors up front for remaining workHiring Tim has been a complete disaster. Don't just think twice before hiring him, think again.

JOE & JYL DIECKHAUS took Kohner Construction to conciliation court and LOST, then appealed it to district court and LOST there as well. Both judges found NO FAULT OF KOHNER CONSTRUCTION and instead Joe & Jyl Dieckhaus had a judgment placed on them to pay Kohner Construction! Joe is an attorney that represented himself and lost the same case twice, and 2 years later cannot let it go. Kohner Construction is willing to show any potential client the facts to support this statement if requested. We offer exceptional quality work and customer service as our other reviews reflect.

Kohner used an unlicensed electrician to move wires in my home and recommended the unlicensed person provide other electrical services that led to significant problems. I felt like I was being taken advantage of when, after paying in full, Tim began demanding additional money without providing change orders and then abandoned the work. I took Tim to court and the judge in my case said: Kohner Construction was negligent, breached our contract and "had no right to refuse to do the contracted work and insist being paid on the additional work they had performed. They should have finished the work in the bid"

While Joe Dieckhaus who also happens to be a MN attorney did take KC to court he fails to mention he lost. Not only in conciliation court, he also appealed it to District Court too and AGAIN lost there! Both times MN courts sided with Kohner Construction and in fact placed a judgment against Joe for money he owed us! So his above quotes are clearly fabricated. Yes, Joe was asked after the job started to pay additional money for all new drywall in his kitchen which was required after finding damage inside his walls we couldn’t have known about prior. Joe agreed to the pay for the additional work, we completed it, then he refused to pay. The judge found the electrician to have been fully licensed at the time Joe hired and contracted with him, and found no fault of KC regarding any wiring. We are simply dealing with a difficult homeowner/attorney who’s ego was bruised losing in MN courts not only once but twice and he cannot let it go. He has harassed us with negative reviews and comments to the point other sites have banned him and he may be facing reprocussion from the MN Rules of Professional Conduct for attorneys. It is unfortunate there are people out there who cannot accept losing and will go to great lengths 2 years later. Kohner Construction is happy to provide any client a copy of photos or this court order to support our comments above. Please see our other reviews as they are more reflective of the work we do.
