What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started playing Clarinet when I was 7 years old and learned to read music. From there I found a passion for drumming, I played in the High school jazz band and played with several groups outside of school as well. I went to school for recording arts in Texas, where I continued to study and practice drums and play in bands. I finally ended up in Minnesota, where I have set up a business teaching drums. I still play in bands and recently attended a drumming Master Class with Benny Greb in New York.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I fell in love with drumming at a very young age and I knew that I had to one day make a career out of it. As soon as I started teaching I found that I also loved instructing and had a natural talent for it.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I've worked with drummers from ages 6-69, from beginners to experts, and I've worked with children with disabilities and adults with learning disabilities.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
One of my students was recently accepted into a special performance with his school band for drums with the help of my tutelage.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Drum lessons are an excellent way for all ages to familiarize themselves with tempo, song structure, coordination, they're also a great way to help kids with developing math and problem solving skills! Unlike most classes and lessons, with music it is important to find an instructor that bases their curriculum around each individual's goals to help them work towards reaching their destination.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I have been playing since the age of 9 and have been teaching for 13 years now. I knew from a young age that this was going to be my profession and I take it very seriously.
