Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: First - a few words on pricing. For smaller jobs if you provide pictures of the work areas and a description I can usually provide an estimate. I may have some follow up questions to provide greater accuracy. I do smaller jobs on a time and material basis. The estimate is provided to aid in budgeting and shopping. Doing the work on T+M and providing an estimate aims to share the risk equally. If you approve the the estimate we'll find a date that works for both of us. When I arrive we'll go over the scope and I'll let you know if I see any obvious extras. I usually request 50% of the estimated fees as a downpayment. For more complicated jobs if you approve the first pass estimate I'll make a site visit for a deeper inspection and to discuss. If possible I'll provide a lump sum bid which will be a fixed price for a fixed amount of work. If there're too many probable concealed conditions I'll do the job on T+M. After receiving the revised estimate or bid if you decide to do business with another company there's a 75$ charge. Does this make sense? Second - If I'm doing a repair for you the aim is not to be able to see that a repair was needed. Third - If it's new work - how well does the new compliment the old? This requires me to not only think about the trees, but the forest as well.

Kel had quite a challenge enclosing our first floor porch. None of the preexisting openings were square or plumb. There were many small and large design considerations/conundrums to overcome. The resolutions were always collaborative and implemented with patience and careful attention to detail.

Thanks for the Five Star Review Kent. Seems like an age since we hung the rock on the Hague bathroom ceiling during the restoration. I look forward to working with you again. Regards, Kel

Kel did a great job on a smallish project in my house (installing a door and window with some electrical work). After struggling with getting quotes and having contractors back out of jobs I was really pleased with Kel's quoting and job planning process. He was clear and up front about costs and potential trouble areas which could add cost. Those didn't end up happening but I was glad he made me aware. He worked when he said would and the work came in on time and on budget. I would definitely call him again for future projects and recommend him to friends and family.

I had numerous small jobs, from repairing a drawer that had come off its runners to hanging a bathroom door with hinges that had come out of the wall. Studio Rebus fixed everything. Kel is a real problem-solver with high standards. He takes pride in his work, kept me informed about problems and his solutions. Nice guy with reasonable rates. He even stabilized dining room chairs that were getting wobbly. I’m glad I found him.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

The home page of our website gives a concise introduction to our system. Definitely click on the page called 'Budget Woes' and study the graphic.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

The State of Minnesota requires sixteen hours of continuing education every two years to maintain the residential contractor's license.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Keep in mind all the television and cable shows about remodeling are selling phantasy. Phantasies about speed, service, price and lack of conflict. Their contribution to the marketplace is not knowledge, but surreal expectations. Talk to family and friends about projects they've done similar to one you're contemplating. Talk to my past clients. I'll provide a list of references right after our first contact.
