Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: When I was a kid, I learned how to program computers—on those old Apple machines with the green monitors—from a teacher who made us trace out what a program did, line by line, loop by loop… on paper. By hand. Sometimes he wouldn't let us use the computer until we had gone through the program out like that beforehand. We had to learn that because a computer will only do exactly what you tell it to do. And often, what you think you're telling it to do is not what you're actually telling it to do. At all. Not that you realize that. So I guess one reason my work as an editor is different is that long, long ago, I often had to spend hours and hours on frustrating drudge-work to discover that if only I had put an equals sign or a pair of parentheses in a slightly different place, everything would have been just fine.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Describe the document you would like to have edited or proofread. Share the reasons you are looking for an editor: for example, to get an objective take on your work, to get a second pair of eyes on it, to help you catch errors you suspect you usually make, to improve the style or organization, to format the document or bring it into agreement with a set standard (a professional or citation-manual style). Finally, be forthcoming about your expectations: what are you looking to spend, how soon you need the work done, what special requirements you're looking for in an editor. The more you can tell me, the more readily I can help you.
