Nick was amazing. We had previously worked with some painters that truly let us down and then we found Nick and it was a completely different experience! He was on time, affordable, responsive and communicative and did AMAZING job. He was clean too! (and we did a popcorn removal which can be very messy!) Nick had also offered to help us with some of the problems our old painters had caused. Overall, we will ONLY use Nick for any painting needs moving forward! Hire him, you won't regret it!

I hired Aaron to paint a couple of popcorn ceilings. I tried painting the ceilings on my own, but realized I needed a professional painter. Aaron painted both ceilings (one room was large) in three hours and his work looks fantastic. I'm very satisfied with the finished work. Aaron was professional, worked hard, and paid attention to detail. He answered my questions and shared some painting tips. He is a man of integrity who cares about the quality of his work and having satisfied customers. I will not hesitate to call Aaron for future painting needs.

We had a small job--our new range didn't quite fit and so we needed someone to come out and cut our countertop to fit it in. He came the same day! He charged low rates, did a good job, was courteous and kind. We will definitely call him back for other work. It sounds as though he specializes in painting, flooring, etc. Nice guy!

Kayla did a great job in repainting our 80's kitchen cupboards, and painting the walls. We also had her refinish our bathroom cupboards that had worn down to the wood. Great gal, ease to work with - and very reasonable!

The Lonsdale Chamber of Commerce has hired Karen to work at our annual Lonsdale Community Days for the past two years. Karen is a talented artist, her designs are extremely detailed and more advanced than your average face painter. She is prompt, friendly, artistic, professional and certainly made a lot of children happy during our festival. Her rates are reasonable and would highly recommend her services. We look forward to having Face Painting by Karen return next year.

I had my interior trim and doors installed and painted. I had started the process a couple years ago, but was having difficulty finishing the project with 3 young boys and all there activities. I hired Adventure 25 to come out and give a bid and they could start the project in about a week. The first part of the process was to finish the trim work and rip all the basement trim out and a couple of doors that had not been replaced yet. The trim work was done in a couple of days. The painting was delayed because of rainy weather. This is where the stress begins. The prep work that comes before painting can be a lot of work and time consuming. There was little to no prep of the trim. Lots of missed nail holes, lots of missed caulking and the stuff that was done was very poor. I was told that this is high quality paint and it will cover in one coat. I know better. It can take several coats to make the white trim look good. There was paint all over the wood floors, tile in kitchen, paint on the cabinets, paint on my trees outside, paint on the concrete driveway, paint on my fire pit. There seemed to be no care in the world. Jaimie kept telling me that we are not painters. I understand that but my 5 year could of done better. It was supposed to be rolled and instead there was pain brush marks all the trim. The one painter said he thought it would look cute to but swirls with his brush on the top of all the door trims. I met with Jaimie 4 different times to which he said how do I make this right? I would go through things with him and come home at the end of the day to find more of a mess and continued poor quality work. I have never seen anything like this. He would say it would be fixed but I don't think he would watch over his workers and forget to tell them things. I am stressed out beyond believe as my hope was to have this finished to spend more time with my kids. Instead I have to redo most of it. I had another contractor come out and told me it would be about 10 thousand to fix. He never had seen such poor quality work. I would not recommend him to my worst enemy. Very nice person but I think he was over his head and always in a rush, hence the poor quality work. Since I cant pay 10 thousand to someone to fix it, I am now looking at a year or so to fix my trim. Very frustrated and angry customer.

When I initially spoke with Alex I found him to be the most personable and professional of the people I spoke to about our exterior painting job. I was hoping he would give us a reasonable quote so I could choose him. The quote was very reasonable, which made me a little worried that I might regret going with someone that might not be well established. I needn't have worried. Alex met all of my expectations. He was always true to his word, he did a neat job, and he was very pleasant to do business with. I will be recommending him highly to everyone I hear needs house painting.

We had Nick, owner of Ferguson Painting, re-paint one of townhouse units from top to bottom and he did a wonderful job! The quality of his work was great and when he was done he left the unit clean and everything picked up. He has great communication skills and responded quickly to any messages we left for him. We will definitely be using Nick again in the future for all of our painting needs. Thanks, Nick, for a job well done!!

We had a very difficult wall repair project where the wall paper came off so horrible that all the walls needed to be skim coated. Above All gave a prompt estimate and kept after the project until we all were satisfied with the outcome. He had very hard working painters and they all had great attitudes. They really stood behind their work.

Harald did a fantastic job on my 1966 stucco and siding, split level that was overdue to be painted. He coached me thru several ideas that would simplify the project and ended up saving me money. He got along with the dogs, cleaned up the jobsite every day after a days work and never left the gate open. Very responsible and accountable. We needed some substantial carpentry on the south facia. Harald subbed the task out to a good carpenter and had it done in a few days. No fuss, he just got it done. I now consider Harold my go-to partner for any painting job and would recommend him highly for interior or exterior painting.

We hired Mike to paint our entryway that was vaulted and had some tricky spots due to an open staircase. He was prompt in responding to our request for a quote (which was very reasonable) and in all communications. Mike arrived as scheduled, worked efficiently and finished the project ahead of schedule. He was pleasant and courteous and I would not hesitate to hire him again. Thanks again, Mike!

I used ProTect Painters to paint my kitchen cabinets and walls. They also put up a tile backsplash. I am so pleased with their work. The painter was on time every single day. The painter worked diligently throughout the week. They also cleaned up better than any workers I have ever used before. I highly recommend these painters.

Having just relocated to the Minneapolis area my husband and I were looking for painters for our new home. This was the first time we tried thumbtack and I have to say we are extremely impressed by Blue Painting. I first communicated with Max, one of the co-owners who came out to do a tour and discuss what we wanted done. We had several bids however Max had the best price for the quality and overall he gave the best impression when we first met him. After talking with him I really felt like our home would be in good hands and I can say with confidence it was! His painting crew was professional, friendly, courteous and did such an amazing job on the house. The paint has really transformed it - everything was done such precision and they took a lot of time and care in cleaning up afterwards. Without any hesitation I would highly recommend using Blue Painting for any of your needs, wether it be interior or exterior. This is a good honest company and one that I fully support. Thanks for helping make our house so lovely.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
