Robert and his crew were able to take care of my lawn and downed limbs in a timely manner, especially considering all the tree issues around the area after the storm. His rate was reasonable, and he was very professional, going above and beyond by texting me photos of the job in process to make sure I was pleased. The finished product looked great.

The owner responded to my thumbtack inquiry right away and beat all other bids. Hired for leaf cleanup days before moving out of our old house. I was kind of in a bind from procrastinating and not doing the yard work before the move. We have a pretty big lot with 5 large trees in and around the yard. I cleaned up the leaves earlier this year and filled up about 30 paper yard bags. The yard was covered again and I really didn't want to spend a whole day bagging it up. They came out right away and made my leaves disappear. They also removed a pile of old tree limbs and bushes (which I thought would be an issue). They Cleaned up the whole yard for a fair price. I would definitely recommend Irreco for any yard projects. I will be using them in the future.

Butch came out the same day I asked for a quote. He told me exactly what he planned to do and gave me a fair and accurate quote on the work. No hidden surprises after the work was done. He came when he said he would and he and his crew did and excellent job! They cleaned up after they were done and didn't leave us a mess. I will definitely use Butch again and will highly recommend him to friends that need tree service.

They got the trees planted quickly because it was late in the season. I appreciated their advice on when and where to plant. They said summer is harder on a new tree, generally, than winter. The trees are a good size and they’ll bloom in May. 😊

Justin and his team did a fantastic job. There are quite a few trees close to my very tall home. The branches were overgrown and literally resting on my roof. Justin came out and cut the branches back. He was timely, efficient, and clean! And, very professional.

My yard is small but we have a border of 4 very large trees. It is fenced and it required raking and blowing leaves. There are garden beds and overall not an easy fall clean-up. We have lived here for 35 yrs and this is the first time we have hired someone.I'm glad we did. Communication was excellent. I told him what I wanted done and what I didn't want. It was a perfect job. I will hire Jason again without hesitation.

I could not wait to give my recommendation for Baumann Tree Service today. I was totally amazed at the professional way my 60+ft, 150 year old white oak tree (that was hanging over my house) was cut down today. To see the skill that all six men had to cut every limb down in about 5 hours was mind blowing. Mike Baumann personally directed the project and left me will a great deal of fire wood. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Baumann Tree to anyone who needs a tree cut down with peace of mind at a very reasonable price. They did everything they said they would in a timely manner and left the site very clean. I have pictures and video I will post on their website. Thank you Mike Baumann and your whole crew and God bless you.

Craig and Kurt did an awesome job on my landscape project. They created a beautiful accent point, planted trees, flowers and bushes, mulched everything and even placed a 1,000lb rock in my yard. Kurt even took care of a couple existing trees without additional costs. Love everything. Hire this team - you can't go wrong.

I had a wonderful experience with Kathy Selz. Hired her and her team to do a landscape project and to remove a tree and plant a new one. They were very professional, friendly and knowledgable. They offered me suggestions that were really helpful. The project was done timely and looked immaculate when they were done. It is very refreshing to hire someone to actually do exactly what you hired them to to and get it done on time. I will call them for all my outdoor landscape needs!

Chuck took down several trees and shrubs on our property. He was right on time, and got straight to work. He did an excellent job and was very attentive in caring for the surrounding work area. His clean up was so thorough, you would not know he was even there. His rates are very reasonable. He was very polite and took the time to ensure he understood my request. Chuck is polite and very pleasant to work with. I cannot recommend Chuck enough if you are looking for a honest professional that does quality work at fair price.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

    • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
    • Read online reviews of client experiences.
    • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
    • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
    • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
