Kevin was a bit hard to get a hold of originally, but we had just had a huge storm in town and I think most people were overwhelmed. When Kevin arrived, he offered to help cut up a huge downed tree branch! I really needed that and was super glad that he could help. The yard looked so much better after a much-needed mowing/weed-eating and he used a blower to clear off the drive. Very affordable and easy-going.

Great Tree Service! I just had the pleasure to hire them. The tree team of works showed up promptly, they were courteous , they raked and cleaned all the debris. The offered a very great price for the work (e.g. very large tree removal, stump grinding and trimming of trees) but they were also able to do it within 48 hours of the bid. I can't say enough good things about them. Great Job! I have already referred them on my homeowner's site!

We had Tim lay sod in some bare spots in our front yard where a large tree and bushes were taken out. He did a great job. We will definitely be reaching out to him again for future projects and recommending him to our friends.

I met with Mike, owner of Chop It & Haul It Tree Services only one time. He was friendly and helpful with suggestions for my trees. The work was completed today while I was not home -- and the yard looks great, as well as the trees! They cleaned up everything and did a great job. I would definitely use him again. He doesn't expect payment until the work is finished. Awesome!

I was very impressed with Jeremy and his crew's professionalism and friendliness . Jeremy was very knowledgeable about what needed to be done and explained it for me. Other tree trimmers had only advised taking the whole tree, I however, wanted to save as much of the tree as possible. We had planted it when we first bought the house in 1971 and it is the only shade in our front yard. Jeremy was able to do just that. I was so pleased with his response and his knowledge. I now have my tree, without the dangerous limbs. They were very reasonable in price and excellent in precision of work and clean up. If or when I need any more tree services I will definitely call on Yard Sharks LLC,

My yard looks fantastic! It was a bit of a mess. I had weeds that needed serious attention and bushes/trees that needed serious trimming and shaping. Now everything looks great. I will definitely continue to use H&H Mowing for my lawn care needs.

Overall impression from estimate through completion of job is professional. Would've appreciated if the technician had offered to explain what he was going to do prior to starting the work. Also would've appreciated to be asked to review the work after it was completed. I took it upon myself to do the latter and they promptly did some touch up work on the tree in the backyard. Comfortable with the business and would use them again/recommend them to someone else.

Josh of Outlaw Tree Service was proactive, professional and did quality work. I had heard horror stories about stump removal from other friends and family and had been putting off having the two small stumps removed for years. I had even tried to retain people in the past; they were "no shows" after having previously agreed to show up to take a look at the job. After completely removing the stumps and the resulting chips, Josh laid down topsoil and air dried the entire front lawn with a blower to remove small debris and evidence of equipment tire tracks.

Calvin and his crew at A-Alpha Tree Company are top-notch. They were faced with a tight area between houses and a very tall, dead tree - they thoroughly assessed the situation and worked hard and efficently to complete the removal of two trees and also prunned two others. They made sure we were completely satisfied with their work and asked for honest feedback after completing the job. I would use A-Alpha again without a doubt and would be confident in recommending them to friends and family.

Arvived on-time, delivered outstanding service, didn’t wait, just got right to it. When he was done cutting up the large tree branches which fell from my tree with the chainsaw, he went around my back yard to pick up little branches for me as a courtesy and went above and beyond. This company didn’t stop there either, he went to the front yard to see what he could pick up there, saved me a lot of work. This company is very professional and I will go through them again if a tree branch falls again. My only wish is that they had a payment option for credit or debit however they accept checks and that worked for me.

Chris and Jessica are helping me create my mini, home orchard. They have helped with research and have also installed deer protectors around the trees. I have also gotten instructions for care and they are very helpful in all aspects. I put 5 trees in last fall and plan on having them put in 5 more this fall! I have been very happy!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
