Steve was hired to complete a number of small repairs including water leaks from freezer and toilet, drywall repairs, installing a new garbage disposal,, leveling some appliances, etc. He started repairs the day I called and completed four days later (the drywall was a three day process.) His work was excellent. In terms of arrival times and our availability, I found that talking with Steve by phone was more effective than texting or emailing him.

We had 3 areas that needed drywall repair from water damage. Jose arrived early and worked until job was complete. Ceilings look better than when they were done by the builder. Jose was polite, professional and a hard worker. I definitely recommend him!

Mike was a Christmas Miracle! I was in need of a new living room floor a few weeks before Christmas. I contacted Mike through thumbtack and he was at my house the next day with a plan. He and his guys returned 3 days later, early Friday morning, to tear out my damaged carpet, install new hardwoods, sanded the adjoining kitchen and hall wood floor, and stained new and existing hardwoods. They worked until nearly midnight the first night and continued to work hard all weekend until we returned home Sunday night. The floors were exactly what I asked for and the new hardwood floor flows into the existing hardwood. Two months later I can comfortably say that Mike and his crew are honest and amazing! I also had Mike repair some walls and his guy did a great job! We can’t wait to hire Mike for our new project.

I couldn't be more pleased with the experience I've had with Milt and A-1 Coatings Painting. This man really does professional, quality work. My deck looks incredible! Milt did exactly what he said he would do, when he said he'd do it. He actually did MORE than expected. You will not be disappointed. A-1 also does interior and exterior painting and drywall repair - I have more projects for them later this year.

I worked with Kris and his team on a mirrored sliding closet door install and a shower re-grout and tile installation job. Kris and his team were professional and provided quality service and work at a fair price. I would definitely recommend him to other potential customers, and look forward to working with him on future projects.

My wife and I really liked Working with TMC., they were professional, quick, responsive and so easy to work with. Our first time to hire Jim was to do some drywall repair from some house settling. He did an excellent job in the repair work and the walls look great. We also had him paint the walls afterwards. Painting was done in an excellent manner and Jim was always very tidy and cleaned up his work areas at the end of each day. We also had him give us a quote and then hired him to tear out and replace a full shower in our master bath. This included tearing out old tile, cutting out the old drywall and replacing it with new moisture barrier drywall. He also revamped our plumbing in the shower and then hung new ceramic tile, accent tile and shower doors as well as replacing the shower basin. In addition we had him hang bathroom fixtures and paint that room as well. He was always very thorough in his jobs and was very neat and tidy. We would definitely recommend Jim for any jobs that you would have with drywall, plumbing and painting.

Quality of work is excellent. Completed in a timely fashion. Completed several odds and ends jobs around home for me. He also repaired a crack in my drywall, and matched paint quite well, avoiding complete repaint job. Highly recommended. Plan to hire for future projects.

Don’t let the name UltraClean fool you. They do more than clean. Michael and his crew pride themselves in doing a variety of home improvement projects. I was impressed by his commitment during the entire process and quickly resolving some minor issues that cropped up. He has vast knowledge, experience and solutions for an assortment of home projects. UltraClean provided me with so many services at a very reasonable price. James & his crew replaced wood siding on the west side of our house 2 yrs. ago as a result of carpenter ant & termite damage. His bid was fair & reasonable. James & his crew finished the job in 3 days. Knowing we had more panels to replace on the east & north side of the house, I called James once again for another bid as I told him we would like his business once we were to the point to replace siding. Again, his bid was reasonable. His crew worked diligently & finished the job in 2 days. The work is professional. We are very pleased with the repairs and his experience to match paint from the existing house. I will recommend James & his company to anyone needing home repairs. Thanks you!

I do all electrical services you need. I also do carpentry, indoor painting, and some small plumbing repairs like leaky sinks and toilets.

    About

It's all in the prep work. It's worth taking time to take care of the fine details before you start the finish work. It's easier to cover furniture, mask, put up dust barriers, and roll out paper than it is to clean up after the fact.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

    • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
    • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

    • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
    • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
    • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
