FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

Newman's Dog Training offers obedience training: Obedience Dog Training is focused on the traditional obedience commands "sit," "stay," "down," "come," and walking loosely on a leash. You and your dog will learn these commands and be able to use them not only in a controlled environment but also out in the real world where there are many distractions. It is important to not only train the dog, but you as the owner are also being trained. Owners need to know and understand the commands and how to react in a situation and be able to communicate clearly to their dog what they want them to do. These commands are the foundation to modifying many behavior problems you may experience. There are many behaviors dogs display that do not fit into our household: jumping on people, counter surfer, potty training, etc. Newman’s Dog Training uses positive reinforcement to correct these unwanted behaviors. Newman's Dog Training also offers Dog Walking: We would love to get your dog outside and get some energy out. We will come to your home and pick up your dog and take them for a walk. So when you come home you will have a tired, well-exercised friend waiting for you. The length of the walk completely depends on your dog's needs. The walks can range from 15 minutes to an hour. Not only is this a great time to exercise your pup, it is a great time for me to train him or her to: *Walk loosely on the leash beside you *Pass other walkers/dogs peacefully *Sit at a cross walk before crossing the road

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Please review all of your dog trainers and dog walkers before deciding who to use. There are many methods to training and it is important to find the right one that matches how you will train your dog. If you do not agree with the methods offered it is a waste of money and neither you or your trainer will be satisfied. My goal is to work with dogs and their owners to create healthy, fulfilling relationships. I use positive reinforcement training techniques which are based on praise and positive actions or rewards, rather than punishment, to teach your dog right from wrong. The most important thing is to know what motivates your dog, and use that motivator as a reward for the correct behavior. You can use treats, toys, physical affection, verbal praise or a combination of any of those can be used, to reward your dog for desirable behavior.
