Really impressed with the services! I needed someone to clean and dust my house after a recent paint job. Murat arrived on time and was very thorough. He even cleaned a couple of things that weren't on the list. Great job!

Jose did a fantastic job refinishing our ceiling and daughter's playroom. He was on time and professional, but he also went above and beyond in terms of the work. He took care of a minor plumbing issue around the wet bar he removed and told me "don't call the plumber, they'll charge you and arm and leg—I'll take care of it." Then he just stubbed the pipes, took care of it and didn't ask for any more money. I paid him a little on top anyways. Because he's a pro and he deserved it. I would hire 100 Joses to remodel and paint my house right now. I'm using other contractors and wishing he did it all. He just does really awesome drywall.

I had Cole come and do my baseboard/corner roll work and he was great! On time, worked hard, and everything looked good once he was finished up. Even spent the extra time cleaning up his work area when he was done. Would definitely use them again!

The door looks amazing and Marcus had a difficult job getting through my cinderblock and brick walls. He did a fantastic job making sure the floor and the doorjam were flush. Now all I have to do is paint the area outside when the weather warms up. I would use him again especially if I decide to replace my windows.

Rhonda is a pleasure to work with. She is extremely responsive and flexible to work with. I had to propose multiple times to complete a paint job on our basement and she was flexible enough to make those times work. She provided great value and completed the job in a very professional manner. Her work is very quality. I would definitely recommend her to friends, family, or anyone on this site.

We hired Madrid Painting to paint our 3 story home on a hill, making it very challenging to paint. Fred's team did an excellent job! They found the perfect stain to match our prior stain and worked incredibly hard - even on the weekends. Every window was carefully covered with plastic so there were no messes to clean up afterwards. Fred continually showed me the progress and checked with me to make sure that we were happy and quickly addressed any little places that might have needed a touch up. He also carefully caulked the entire house to preserve the wood and used wood patch on any places the woodpeckers had made holes. All of his employees were friendly, hard-working and efficient. Because of their long days and hard work, they finished our job within a week which was super fast in my opinion. I thought their price was very fair (and maybe a little low so i tried to tip more to make up for it). Fred was very responsive to texts / calls also so I had answers quickly. At the end of the job, Fred and I carefully walked around the house to make sure that everything was just how i wanted it. He really runs an excellent company and makes sure that his customers are completely satisfied. I had a wonderful experience using Madrid Painting on the exterior of our house and hope to use them inside this winter.

We hired TMC Contracting to paint our 68-year-old kitchen cabinets. The entire process from getting an estimate to clean up was exceptional. Tim listened to our concerns and made sure we were very satisfied with his work. We would recommend TMC Contracting to anyone who wants a quality project completed by someone who's very professional. We plan to have Tim do other projects in our home. It's apparent that Tim enjoys what he does and strives to help make your vision a reality. Thank you, Tim!

My husband and I hired John to do some painting in our house, actually paint our entire house minus one of our rooms. We were really up in the air about what colors to use and i was pleased that he was very handy about helping with that part. John was very professional and neat and clean, which helped us to be assured that we picked the right painter. Each of our rooms were done with care and the entire house was left almost better than when he started the job. there were a few cosmetic things that needed to be addressed that we were unaware of, and he just did them without any hesitation. Not to mention he did assist me with some vacuuming and scrubbing the outside of the refrigerator which i wanted to pay extra for, and he said no. i would highly recommend him for the job and we will be calling him next spring to do the outside of our house for sure.

We hired GPP to paint the exterior of our home including cedar shake siding and window trim throughout the house. They also replaced and repaired wood rot and fixed or replaced shake siding shingles. We are very happy with the result! Their communication was excellent. They were very clear about what we should expect day to day and were quick to answer all of our questions and concerns along the way. The work crew was very courteous and made sure to complete our project exactly the way we wanted. I would recommend them to our neighbors and anyone else who wants a painting crew to exceed their service expectations and who listen closely to our needs to make sure your projects get done the way you want.

Our first time to hire Jim was to do some drywall repair from some house settling. He did an excellent job in the repair work and the walls look great. We also had him paint the walls afterwards. Painting was done in an excellent manner and Jim was always very tidy and cleaned up his work areas at the end of each day. We also had him give us a quote and then hired him to tear out and replace a full shower in our master bath. This included tearing out old tile, cutting out the old drywall and replacing it with new moisture barrier drywall. He also revamped our plumbing in the shower and then hung new ceramic tile, accent tile and shower doors as well as replacing the shower basin. In addition we had him hang bathroom fixtures and paint that room as well. He was always very thorough in his jobs and was very neat and tidy. We would definitely recommend Jim for any jobs that you would have with drywall, plumbing and painting.

These guys were incredible. They worked around my tight schedule and worked long hours to get the job done. I asked if they could paint another area that I realized I didn’t like (bought a new house). I figured we’d just schedule for another day but they knocked it all out! Great guys, great price. I will hire them again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
