Hired on Thumbtack

Hired on Thumbtack

I hired Tim to replace my current HVAC system and move the furnace location back about 6 inches. He seemed profession (licensed, insured..). Promised he only hired family and that they left a clean job. It took an extra week to get it in then he had originally promised but things still seemed to be going ok. I let him and his crew have free reign of the house while they installed it and went to work. It was two day job. When I returned on the second day, I saw that the system was in but that they had used the top of my glass topped washing machine to stand on to install the system and left it scratched and dirty. There were also giant dirt clods and left over trash they hadn't bothered to clean up. I called Tim and expressed my concern. He apoligized for his men, said it was inexcusable and reduced my final price by 200. Over the weekend I noticed that the new system which was a 70,000BTU 14 seer ac 96 percent efficient 60000btu coil, couldn't cool the upstairs living room as well as the 1990 ac I had replaced. It stayed right at 80 degrees until after the sun set and didn't reach the 70 I had it set at until 2AM. So I again called Tim, he came out to look at it a couple days later and said that they had put the wrong coil in it, he returned the next day to put the right one in. When he showed me the difference in size between what they had installed and what it was suppose to be, I wondered how they couldn't have noticed that since it was substatially different but thought, well as long as they fixed it. About a week later I was in the laundry room and noticed that it was much cooler in there than else where so after checking saw that the sytem was leaking everywhere there was a seem as well as all around the plenum. I called Tim again. He said he would be right back out to check it. In a couple days when he came out he agreed that it needed adressed and set to work caulking and taping it. When he was done it still leaked where he couldn't access it and looked horrible. When I said that it surely couldn't be right, he agreed that it had been installed improperly and would need uninstalled and reinstalled. He said that he was too busy that week to do it, but that the tape and caulk should hold until then and if I didn't hear from him in a week to contact him. The tape and caulk didn't last long before it started leaking all over. I waited the week and then called Tim asking when he could come out. I have been calling and leaving messages, emailing and texting for over a month now and it's pretty obvious that he is ignoring it, and hasn't any intention of fixing his shoddy work. Hope I can keep others from the same experience.
