We had drywall repair around finished basement(@180 ft.) where baseboard was removed when sump pump flooded basement. Jose was prompt, polite and professional. Job was completed in a timely manner, at a fair price with quality workmanship.

Mike was a Christmas Miracle! I was in need of a new living room floor a few weeks before Christmas. I contacted Mike through thumbtack and he was at my house the next day with a plan. He and his guys returned 3 days later, early Friday morning, to tear out my damaged carpet, install new hardwoods, sanded the adjoining kitchen and hall wood floor, and stained new and existing hardwoods. They worked until nearly midnight the first night and continued to work hard all weekend until we returned home Sunday night. The floors were exactly what I asked for and the new hardwood floor flows into the existing hardwood. Two months later I can comfortably say that Mike and his crew are honest and amazing! I also had Mike repair some walls and his guy did a great job! We can’t wait to hire Mike for our new project.

Kelly is now our go-to guy for Painting/Concrete work/Electrician/General House repairs/Drywall/Mold work/Ceiling repair/Carpet repair/Furniture assembly. Period. Had placed a request for Handyman for general repair work in our house and Kelly responded immediately with a very affordable and reasonable price quote. We were very happy with his work and then decided to handover all other work to his crew. They were always on time, responded promptly, worked efficiently and i will let pictures do the talking. My advise for anyone looking for handyman- Kelly is your guy. Pros - He accepts Credit Cards and also you can trust the team with keys to your house. Also for furniture assemble he offered to pickup for lowes for us - which will save the truck delivery fee. Big value for money.

I couldn't be more pleased with the experience I've had with Milt and A-1 Coatings Painting. This man really does professional, quality work. My deck looks incredible! Milt did exactly what he said he would do, when he said he'd do it. He actually did MORE than expected. You will not be disappointed. A-1 also does interior and exterior painting and drywall repair - I have more projects for them later this year.

My wife and I really liked Working with TMC., they were professional, quick, responsive and so easy to work with. We had some storm damage and needed drywall replaced and a finished basement refinished and painted. We used this as an opurtinity to update the colors and brighten up the space but needed some help deciding on colors. We are so happy with how things look! Thanks TMC!

Our first time to hire Jim was to do some drywall repair from some house settling. He did an excellent job in the repair work and the walls look great. We also had him paint the walls afterwards. Painting was done in an excellent manner and Jim was always very tidy and cleaned up his work areas at the end of each day. We also had him give us a quote and then hired him to tear out and replace a full shower in our master bath. This included tearing out old tile, cutting out the old drywall and replacing it with new moisture barrier drywall. He also revamped our plumbing in the shower and then hung new ceramic tile, accent tile and shower doors as well as replacing the shower basin. In addition we had him hang bathroom fixtures and paint that room as well. He was always very thorough in his jobs and was very neat and tidy. We would definitely recommend Jim for any jobs that you would have with drywall, plumbing and painting.

Very nice. Very thorough. He did a great job finishing drywall off with tape and mud. You can't see the seems at all. The paint is crisp and clean and he completely cleaned up at the end of each work day. I would definitely recommend him for any painting project.

As many know sometimes getting a handyman to respond or scheduled can be tricky at times, but Chuck was fantastic. Answered a request and visited the property in the same day (after normal business hours no less!). Once the materials were purchased on my end, Chuck made the necessary repairs less than 24 hours later! As a bonus, he was 1/5th of the cost of 'professional' handyman services. I will continue to use Sherman and Sons for future projects and can't recommend them highly enough.

We had Josh out for an estimate on repairing some drywall damage from removing an old border. His response was prompt, he came out and gave us an estimate for the drywall repair and for painting the entire kitchen on the spot. We had him do the entire job and couldn’t be happier. Prompt, professional, very reasonable and the work was top notch. We highly recommend C. F. Painting!!!

Quality of work is excellent. Completed in a timely fashion. Completed several odds and ends jobs around home for me. He also repaired a crack in my drywall, and matched paint quite well, avoiding complete repaint job. Highly recommended. Plan to hire for future projects.

He has vast knowledge, experience and solutions for an assortment of home projects. UltraClean provided me with so many services at a very reasonable price. Kawa and his crew were very impressive. They were able to fit us in right away. Kawa came the same day walked they house with me and my husband, took some measurements, and gave us an estimate on the spot. He went through hours and timeline and offered to start right away. They filled all the holes and did some wall repairs on Thursday. Sanded and painted all 4 rooms on Friday and did the first walk through with me Friday afternoon, where he marked things I could have never noticed. One of his punters put some red stuff where the marks were and touched up everything Saturday morning. Kawa stoped by for a final inspection. He went over the invoice which was the same as the estimate. The house looks amazing and this happened in less than three days. Did I mention he fixed one of the bedroom doors that was not closing for free? Provided it was a very quick fix for him, but still, great service. Thank you Elevate Kansas City.

James & his crew replaced wood siding on the west side of our house 2 yrs. ago as a result of carpenter ant & termite damage. His bid was fair & reasonable. James & his crew finished the job in 3 days. Knowing we had more panels to replace on the east & north side of the house, I called James once again for another bid as I told him we would like his business once we were to the point to replace siding. Again, his bid was reasonable. His crew worked diligently & finished the job in 2 days. The work is professional. We are very pleased with the repairs and his experience to match paint from the existing house. I will recommend James & his company to anyone needing home repairs. Thanks you!

We had rented out our previous home for fourteen years. It had gotten very run down during that time. Mark installed all new LED light fixtures, new doors, new flooring, new fencing, a new front porch, new landscaping, new second deck, and a host of other repairs. We sold it for above asking price. Mark's a great guy with a tremendous work ethic and commitment to his customers. I'm now utilizing him with reoairs on my present home as well.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

    • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
    • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

    • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
    • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
    • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
