We have been to utilizing Donna and Slem's Pet Care as a pet sitter since 2012. We live in a different state and come to the St Louis area several times per year. Our golden retriever had not traveled much and can be timid when meeting new people but she loves Donna. Donna is always accommodating of our schedules and we never worry when our pet is in her care. We would not consider using anyone else. Donna is truly the best!

Absolutely fabulous! I will definitely use them again! They were incredibly professional and really gave a personalized touch to everything! I had them do a few walks and watch my fur babies over the weekend while I was out of state. For those of you who are close with your dogs, you know you want to be able to trust the people taking care of them and with PFPC I had no issues. I got to meet my walkers beforehand and during my vacation was kept up-to-date on how my dogs were; it was wonderful and extremely reassuring. You can really tell their walkers love animals and it shows! After doing my due diligence on pet sitting/walking companies in St. Louis, I am so happy I ended up finding Pet First Pet Care. I expect to continue to use them in the future and highly recommend others do as well!

Eve accepted the pet sitting job for our Cat, Boston Terrier and Chihuahua on a fairly short notice. She was so kind, and texted us pictures of our "kids" while we were gone. She was very dependable. She brought in our mail. We would highly recommend her to our friends.

Hired Charliee to drive 750 miles round trip to pick up new pet adopted from a shelter online. She communicated with me and kept me well informed. Charliee was very easy to work with and did a great job from start to finish. Most importantly she delivered my new pet safely and took good care of her on the long journey to her new home. Thanks Charliee!

I've used Judy for several needs: elder care for my 94 year old grandma, pet sitting, house sitting, and errands. Judy is professional, thorough, and affordable. Judy has high integrity and I entrust her with the care of my loved ones and my valuables. I have found no one better. She truly is my extra set of hands when I need it.

Iris is amazing! She loves animals and seems to treat each and everyone like her own pet. When she sits for my 2 cats, she always shows up with a toy for them. She also takes care of me-makes sure I don’t have to worry while I’m away. She sends a text as well as pictures while she is with them. If you use Iris as your pet nanny, your animal will be very well cared for!

Emily has impressed me so far with her professionalism. I have had other pet sitters before who are not as prepared as her. I haven't even met her for the first visit and am in love with her organization and attention to detail!

Rae watched our dog, Chuckles, for a weekend so we could visit a friend. What a wonderful change for our pet. We've been using a pricey boarding service for years. We met Rea at our clinic and found she lived in our neighborhood. She has a huge fenced yard, two dogs of her own, and our dog loved running with them, freed from the 'leash'. Chuckle's didn't want to leave! when we came to get her. My highest recommendations for our friend Rae to sit your dog, or kitty-cat friend, she's got a few of those too!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

    • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
    • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
      • 45-minute visit: $28.
      • 60-minute visit: $32.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
      • 12 hours: $100.
      • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
