When our house was built, the electrical outlet for our dryer wasn't installed properly or securely causing the drywall around it to collapse. Jose knew exactly what was wrong and how to fix it before arriving. He went out of his way to fit me in his schedule and fixed it the same day. He is very knowledgeable and I would definitely hire him again for future projects. His work is impeccable and the laundry room drywall looks better than when we bought the house. Thank you Jose.

I had some major drywall repairs (due to flooding) that needed to be fixed. Nick was quick to respond and sent someone out immediately to look at what needed to be done. Mike got to work right away and did an amazing job; the walls look seamless. I can't say how pleased I am to find such wonderful craftsmanship paired with honesty and integrity. I have already hired him for another job (kitchen) and I plan on using him for all of my future home remodels and repairs.

Bob the Builder is amazing. Prompt, courteous, never left a mess in the room where he built a closet and repaired seams in drywall. Affordable, quality work by a true professional. The cost of materials was true - not increased for his profit. We plan to use him again for other projects as our budget permits.

We had BWH do interior painting and trim, repair drywall from roof leaks, replace rotted exterior trim, and paint all of the exterior trim and some stucco areas. Ben's team of Ronald, Luis and Fabio were easy to work with. They arrived on time and cleaned-up after themselves each day. They were professional, kind and good at what they do. They are skilled at cutting in with the brush and painting nice clean lines around trim. They covered floors and furniture while they painted. There were no accidents. I would recommend BWH for you next interior/exterior painting project. Here's is a smart tip... Be certain of your paint colors before the painting begins. Do not assume a paint color you saw in a friend's home or on a paint card will look the same in your space. The amount of natural light coming into a room can completely change the color. Spend time to buy and apply various samples directly on your walls. Once you are certain of the paint color and sheen you want, then schedule BWH to come paint your walls. It will be done quick and look great! Thank you!! :)

John repaired interior drywall for me and my experience was amazing. He is very responsive and actually was able to start the job the same day he came out to view the job. He also has extended his services in other areas. It has been a real pleasure working with John who is extremely personable. I definitely will be using him for any future projects.

Dan and his team are AMAZING and I feel so grateful to have found them! They are excited to work on my home which included almost an entire remodel...Removing walls in the kitchen for an open floorpan, completely remodeling the kitchen, moving a bathroom, moving the laundry room upstairs and creating a mudroom in it's place. Building into unused attic space to create a walk in closet and bathroom in my daughter's bedroom and remodeling and rearranging our master bathroom. Not to mention all the new flooring, cabinets, and drywall where there was once popcorn ceilings. And they were EXCITED to do it. Most people I interviewed were overwhelmed at the task or WAY too expensive. He was priced fairly yet the work quality is far superior to other remodeled homes I have seen. Don't even waste your time with other companies. I love that I felt like we were working together as a team and he was always willing to spend time with me making sure I felt comfortable with each step!

Zach and his partner did a fantastic job repairing my drywall. I had some leaky pipes - to access this, the plumbers needed to cut through the hallway ceiling drywall. It left a 14" x 12" hole. I have always gotten top notch service through Thumbtack, so this is how I found Fine Finishes Custom Painting. Zach's communication was excellent. He showed up promptly at the agreed upon time. Repaired the hole, painted it and now it looks perfectly blended in - you can't tell that there was ever a hole there! Additionally, I had a water stain on the dining area ceiling that Zach took great care to make sure the whole dining ceiling looked blended. If you are looking for high quality painting or drywall repair at an affordable price, I highly recommend Fine Finishes Custom Painting!

I had Alexander and his crew scraped the popcorn off 1800 sqft of ceiling, then they mudded, primed and painted it. They also taped, mudded, and primed 50 sheets of drywall that I put up after removing and adding walls in my house. They did a great job! They gave a reasonable price, showed up everyday on time, and finished on schedule. I would definatly use them again.

I would say go for this gentleman ! I submitted my proposal at Thumbtack. Received several quotes. I really don't know how I picked this fellow. He arrived on time, gave me an impressive estimates, and started working on it. The home was badly damaged due to pipe bursting, and no one knew where the leak was located. However, the gentleman took care of it. The best thing I like about him is that he doesn't talk unnecessarily which many plumbers do. He also doesn't have a story to tell that I've been doing this job for 20 years plus. He is a cool guy, keeps focus on works ! The best part of hiring him for my home is that he has told me that he'll come back and take care of the job for free if the problem occurs again ! I've some flooring and drywall works waiting for him to complete. Try hiring him once !!

Completed 1,500 sq ft basement. Roberto oversees the work of multiple crews - hangers/mudders. Quote did not include supplies, "stacking" drywall in the location, or disposal of remnants. Some suppliers will stack for a fee, or he can add it to your quote. Nevertheless, quote was very reasonable, even with additional stacking fee. Okay, it was downright a steal compared to other all-in-one contractors. (GCs charge 2x for the same work). His crews are full-time drywallers - they were incredibly quick, efficient, and the final results are top notch. Only downside is that they're busy - so you have to be a bit flexible on timing (guys worked Saturdays). You have to be cognizant that most of the workers I met speak minimal english. It wasn't an issue for me as it gave me an excuse to practice my Spanish, and Roberto would handle any discussions with the crews. Final thought - look elsewhere if you don't want to get your hands a little dirty. I'm sure there's a AAA place willing to take your money.

I liked the Work Quality, Professionalism, Responsiveness, Value and Punctuality of Jay Drywall and Painting Remodeling. Jackson Chavez, Professional Clean and Safety On July 10, 11 and 12, 2018 Jackson Chavez, Supervisor and two men came to my 1,320 square feet townhouse and painted every interior room including the garage. The whole process of getting my townhouse painted was handled in a very professional manner. I live in my townhouse and they moved and replaced the heavy furniture with no problem. The two men patched all small nail wholes and painted. The two men did a very good job by painting on the walls only. The price that was charged to me was also very fair and reasonable. I would hire Jackson Chavez and his team again. A job very well done. This review is from Teresa of Rock Hill, South Carolina.

The Patch Boys helped re-drywall my kitchen ceiling for me and did an excellent job. The kitchen ceiling had literally fallen down and they not only fixed the whole ceiling so it was better than it had been originally, but left the kitchen spotless when they left.

Jose was always on time and did a good job painting. My issues: He broke one of my blinds, and didn't inform me. He broke a vase and didn't inform me. Instead, he wanted to hang the curtains up I guess in order to cover it up. He threw the broken vase away in a bag he had in his van. He didn't say anything until I confronted him the next day. Only then did he offer to replace the blind, but I declined. He never offered to replace the vase. Accidents happen, just be honest and inform the customer about what happened. It's better than trying to cover it up. They cleaned up most of the paint, but there are some spots that were left on the floor that I had to clean.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
