I had just relocated to the Charlotte area. This being my first time away from home (Georgia), I felt like I really needed to make my space comforting and aesthetically pleasing. I simply searched on Facebook and Google, that led to me finding Elements by K. Johnson. I can admit I was a complicated client. I had no direction or clue what I wanted my space to look like at all. My previous decor was blah - too much black and brown. I came to Elements by K. Johnson without a clue or vision and she guided me through a process that resulted in my beautiful home design! The attention to details has my home looking like interior design perfection. I've gotten so many compliments on my home; I just giggle and say it's not all me. From our first conversation, Elements by K. Johnson was prompt and attentive. It felt like I was working with a family member that wanted me to love my space, and I love my space! I was guided with patience as I was not a fan of color or items put up on walls initially but slowly, I put all my interior decor trust into Elements by K. Johnson and low and behold my home went from blah to amazing. I love coming home to my beautifully decorated home. I can't wait to work with Elements by K. Johnson again!See more

Dan and his team are AMAZING and I feel so grateful to have found them! They are excited to work on my home which included almost an entire remodel...Removing walls in the kitchen for an open floorpan, completely remodeling the kitchen, moving a bathroom, moving the laundry room upstairs and creating a mudroom in it's place. Building into unused attic space to create a walk in closet and bathroom in my daughter's bedroom and remodeling and rearranging our master bathroom. Not to mention all the new flooring, cabinets, and drywall where there was once popcorn ceilings. And they were EXCITED to do it. Most people I interviewed were overwhelmed at the task or WAY too expensive. He was priced fairly yet the work quality is far superior to other remodeled homes I have seen. Don't even waste your time with other companies. I love that I felt like we were working together as a team and he was always willing to spend time with me making sure I felt comfortable with each step!See more

Thank you Gary at Spaulding Decon for giving me a competitive price to FINALLY allow me to clean my crawl space. We live in a home that was built in 1961. Even though we have fully renovated the inside, we still get a musty smell from our crawl space especially when we don't run the HVAC system. We recently had a dishwasher leak that soaked through our sub-floor and into the crawl space. I originally contacted an after disaster type company but the quote to simply dehumidify and apply an antimicrobial was exorbitant! I contacted Gary to see if they could do the work and clean out the crawl space and lay down a new barrier at the same time. The quote was affordable and the two technicians, Mason and James did a great job! They answered all my questions and went above and beyond to make sure I was happy. We knew there was a hole under the kitchen cabinets somewhere that was allowing the air from the crawl space to exit into our home. We could smell it and feel the draft. It took us 30 mins, but Mason was determined to help me find it and fix it, and I was very happy to have it fixed after many years. In the end, we did the following work to our crawl space: - Debris removal - Existing plastic barrier removed - Antimicrobial fog to kill any mold spores or fungus. - New barrier installed - New insulation applied where needed - Dehumidifier was used to remove any additional water in the air Very pleased with the work and the customer service. I would recommend Spaulding Decon for any crawl space work.See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is upholstery cleaning?

From your carpets to your drapes to your furniture, all fabrics need to be cleaned. Cleaning upholstery, or the fabric on your furniture, removes the dirt and oils that are transferred to couches and chairs through regular use. Because furniture upholstery can be delicate and colors can fade easily, it’s often a good idea to let professional sofa cleaners handle the job. They’ll determine the type of fabric — usually cotton, linen, wool, suede or microfiber — and the appropriate method for cleaning it, either steam-cleaning or applying a dry-cleaning solvent. In general, cleaning an entire piece of furniture includes a pretreatment, cleaning, and neutralizing rinse to the body, plus removing and cleaning all cushions and cleaning all crevices.

An upholstery cleaner may clean the entire piece of furniture, on a regular schedule or by request, or do spot treatments to remove pet, food, drink, or oil and grease stains. Furniture can also be deodorized to remove the smell of pets or tobacco smoke. Furniture that’s used often, like that in your family room, should be cleaned once a year to keep it fresh and extend its life. Sofa cleaners often also offer repair services to mend tears in fabric or patch holes in leather.

Who cleans couches?

Even if your furniture doesn’t appear dirty or stained, your couches are collecting just as much dust, pollen, germs, pet hair and dander, and even food crumbs as your carpets. In general, the same professionals who clean your carpets and drapes can also clean your couches. Carpet cleaners usually offer upholstery cleaning services as well, and may offer a discount if you have your carpets cleaned at the same time. Alternatively, you can choose from a range of professional upholstery cleaners in your area who specialize in cleaning different types of upholstery fabrics, including delicate antique fabrics and other hard-to-clean materials such as suede. In addition to deep-cleaning the entire piece of furniture, sofa cleaners can spot-treat food, pet, and oil and grease stains. Most professionals also offer services to sanitize and deodorize your furniture and apply protectants to prevent future stains. As with carpets, experts recommend that you have your upholstered furniture cleaned once every year or two, depending on how much use it gets and whether you have children and pets.

How much does upholstery cleaning cost?

The cost to have your upholstered furniture cleaned depends mostly on two factors: the size of the furniture and the type of fabric. The national average cost of upholstery cleaning ranges from $120 to $150. Most people have multiple pieces cleaned at once, but sofa cleaners will come to your home for just one heavily soiled couch or to spot-treat stains. The smaller the furniture, the lower the cost: A lounge chair may cost an average of $50 to clean, while a couch costs an average of $135 and an L-shaped sectional costs an average of $190. Delicate materials such as antique fabrics or suede upholstery are more expensive to clean than sturdier ones. Having the sofa cleaner do repairs will also add to the cost. Repairs such as mending a tear in fabric or patching a hole in leather may be charged by the task or by the hour; in general, repairs cost an average of $15 each. Special or delicate fabrics may cost additional fees, too.
