- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Most people will only hire a contractor a few times throughout their life. Theres a huge amount of information and opinions out there on how to interview and select a contractor. Here are some things to consider when you start looking for a contractor for your project: Choosing a contractor can be a lot like picking a roommate. Well be in your home for a period of weeks or months. Well be there early in the morning, late in the evening and even sometimes on the weekends. Its our opinion that the first things to consider are if the contractor is worthy of your trust and whether you are comfortable having them in your home. We also believe that the highest value of a general contractor is in their capacity to serve as a risk manager for your project. Its important for us to protect the investment our clients have made in their homes and, in fact, in us. We will always strive to protect our clients from as much financial, legal and physical risk as is within our power. We insist that our subcontractors carry general liability and workers compensation insurance. We verify these insurance policies as well as their licenses. We provide our clients with proof of our insurance policy, a copy of any building permits, a copy of our license, and a full list of subcontractors and contact information utilized on their project. On projects requiring a building permit, we utilize the services of a registered architect and structural engineer who will be actively engaged throughout the project, from initial design through close out. We do not use design services firms who then subcontract out to a licensed design professional to stamp the drawings and have no further involvement in the project.
