About
If you are a complete beginner then you will get a complete introduction into how to play the guitar using a variety of methods. My goal as a teacher is to help YOU be your own best teacher. Learning how to play the guitar isn't easy, it takes time and patience just like anything else that requires a skill. It's slow going at first but over time, it gets easier. Playing music is fun but, learning HOW to play it is the hard part.
If you are a more intermediate or advanced player and not sure "what you should learn next" well then, I can help you with that too. Theory, fretboard knowledge, etc.
If you are looking to learn a specific style, I can help you with that as well. I don't claim to know how to play everything that is out there as I am not a "jack-of-all trades" teacher. I started off in the blues and then for the last 25 years have primarily concentrated on playing jazz. I also know some classical/fingerstyle guitar techniques and even some country guitar. If you are looking for "how to shred" then look elsewhere.
I have been teaching for over 20 years and in that time I have taught ages 8 to adult, all skill levels. If you decide to take lessons with me you will be challenged on what you know as well being pushed to get outside of your comfort zone in order to help you grow. Along with that, I hope to keep the lessons enjoyable and geared towards whatever goals you may have and help you reach them in the most reasonable manner.
I love teaching because it's great a thing to pass on knowledge to someone about something I feel deeply passionate about: music! I get great joy from watching my students grow, reach their goals and have fun in the process.
Currently I teach two high school guitar classes and am also an adjunct jazz guitar instructor at Davidson College. In addition to this I teach private and studio lessons.

Chris listened to my needs and started me right off at the first lesson. Just finished my second lesson today, he added more from the first lesson, progressing. He explains well the reasoning for what im learning and shows how it applies. Looking forward to the next lesson.

I have only met with the instructor once, so I can't give much of a review, but from what I've seen and the little I know, I think he will be a good fit for me. Additionally, I saw him play in a band locally, and they are really good, so I feel confidant in his ability.

I took lessons with Chris Jones for about a year before I went off to college to pursue a jazz studies degree and I felt well equipped as a result. He will do his best to get you the musical results you want and I would recommend home for any guitar player looking to get better.

Chris has been instructing my son for approximately 6 months in guitar. My son enjoys going to lessons and has a wonderful experience learning new songs, techniques and has improved overall in learning the guitar. I would recommend Chris to anyone thinking about learning or just improving their overall skills,

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My rates are based on what I have seen and in some cases cheaper than others.
Lesson rates are as follows
$35/30 min
$50/45 min
$65/ 60 min
I teach both in-home and remote lessons through either Zoom or Face Time (if you have an IOS)
As far as payment is concerned I accept cash, check, PayPal and Zelle.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always start with the same 3 questions for any of my students - especially new ones
1. Why are you taking guitar lessons? This is very important. I can't tell you how many people I have asked this to in the past and how many didn't really know why they were doing it. For anyone to want to pursue something there has to be a reason otherwise they will lose interest very quickly.
2. What goals do you have? Goals will keep you motivated when you feel like you are not moving forward in your lessons. Guitar is not an easy instrument to play.
3. What kind of music do you like? This helps me pick out material.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a recent graduate with BA in Music Therapy from Queens University of Charlotte.
I have also be playing guitar for 24 years.
