Andy instructed my son in trombone for three years, when my son was in 7th, 8th and 9th grades. I asked my son to describe Andy’s teaching style and character. Most importantly, from my perspective, my son says Andy is “encouraging, interesting and enthusiastic”. He adds that Andy is himself always continuing to expand his personal knowledge of methodology, composers and resources and is excited to share with his students. Andy “knows his stuff”, and is good to work with because he is “relaxed”. We were really pleased to have had Andy as an integral piece of my son's musical education path, and would not hesitate to recommend him to any student hoping to evolve and progress in his or her own musical journey

Andy Kleindienst has been an excellent trombone instructor for my daughter! He is very knowledgeable about many different types of playing and so talented on the instrument, and he has just the right touch for encouraging my daughter to play and to practice. I have listened in on many lessons, and I am impressed with his talent for evoking her best effort by example and through using just the right metaphors to encourage her to grow her playing skills and deepen her joy and love of trombone playing. And his trombone playing is beautiful! I credit his deep knowledge of the instrument, his good character, excellent teaching style, and enthusiasm for the craft in helping my daughter excel in various competitions and in choosing to pursue a musical career.

Andy taught my son trombone from seventh grade through high school. We were so fortunate to have such an inspiring and talented teacher who went above and beyond by coming to our house for lessons. Under his tuition my son was able to achieve placements in many All Disrict bands, first chair in the Allstate jazz band and entrance to the music program at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Andy was extremely flexible with lesson times and always reliable. Andy's amazing skills ,patience and work ethic were motivational to my son and we would highly recommend him as an outstanding teacher and person .

I'm an adult who started playing bass guitar late in life. My needs for instruction are very specific because I know exactly what my goals and desires are as a musician. Andy listened to what I wanted to accomplish and has tailored his approach to meet my needs specifically. Andy is punctual for all the lessons, and is well prepared. He is a good coach, praising my ability and improvement, while at the same time encouraging areas of weakness and offering suggestions for improvement. When I suggest a song that I want to learn, Andy takes the time to learn the song, and will provide a correct TAB to learn the music from. Andy practices songs that he doesn't know, so he can teach you and show you how the song should be played.

Having been entirely self-taught on electric bass for many years, I've found it to be a breath of fresh air to have Andy as a teacher. In just two lessons he's helped me to push past my long-held plateau, vastly improving my technical playing as well as my musicianship with simple but intelligent advice. He's punctual and amiable, and is very encouraging of improvisation and the development of one's own personal style.
