About
I am a Durham based professional trombonist and electric bassist with a Master's in Music from Rutgers University and Bachelor's in Music from UNC Chapel Hill.
I specialize in jazz, classical, and Latin American musical styles and have had the pleasure to play with Orquesta GarDel, The Beast, Aretha Franklin, Franki Valli, Guillo Carias, and many more musicians of local, national, and international renowned. I have taught dozens of students in the Triangle area over the last 10 years with many earning all-district honors and two earning first-chair all-state honors.
I offer personalized instruction to students of all ages and ability levels with a focus on developing musicality, technical mastery, and individual expression through a variety of musical repertoire.
Lessons can be scheduled as a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly meeting and can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes, depending on the student. Rates differ based on the location and length of our meetings. I am happy to provide further information upon request.
I look forward to sharing a great musical journey with you.

I'm an adult who started playing bass guitar late in life. My needs for instruction are very specific because I know exactly what my goals and desires are as a musician. Andy listened to what I wanted to accomplish and has tailored his approach to meet my needs specifically. Andy is punctual for all the lessons, and is well prepared. He is a good coach, praising my ability and improvement, while at the same time encouraging areas of weakness and offering suggestions for improvement. When I suggest a song that I want to learn, Andy takes the time to learn the song, and will provide a correct TAB to learn the music from. Andy practices songs that he doesn't know, so he can teach you and show you how the song should be played.

I have been using Andy as my bass teacher since I hired him. I started out every week but then had to move to every other because of work schedule. He is knowledgeable and is able to explain things in a way you understand. He is very flexible and patient.

Having been entirely self-taught on electric bass for many years, I've found it to be a breath of fresh air to have Andy as a teacher. In just two lessons he's helped me to push past my long-held plateau, vastly improving my technical playing as well as my musicianship with simple but intelligent advice. He's punctual and amiable, and is very encouraging of improvisation and the development of one's own personal style.

Andy Kleindienst has been an excellent trombone instructor for my daughter! He is very knowledgeable about many different types of playing and so talented on the instrument, and he has just the right touch for encouraging my daughter to play and to practice. I have listened in on many lessons, and I am impressed with his talent for evoking her best effort by example and through using just the right metaphors to encourage her to grow her playing skills and deepen her joy and love of trombone playing. And his trombone playing is beautiful! I credit his deep knowledge of the instrument, his good character, excellent teaching style, and enthusiasm for the craft in helping my daughter excel in various competitions and in choosing to pursue a musical career.
