We recently engaged Latin Builders as represented by Jairo G to build our new deck with composite materials. The project was to be completed in within two weeks at maximum. A deposit of roughly two thirds of the total price was required at signing as material costs were to be a considerable part of the job as the composite material is fairly expensive. We signed a contract on a Thursday and work was supposed to start on the following Monday. Our check was cashed that day. Monday rolls around and there are no workers, no delivery of materials, and no contact by Jairo G. The following Friday a portion of the materials are delivered. Jairo G and two other workers showed up Saturday and installed the foundational posts of the deck. For the next two weeks, only one worker returned on a part-time basis to slowly finish the foundation, lay the deck floor and finish one of two benches. In the middle of those two weeks, the deck boards were delivered. At this point the project is behind schedule and Jairo is barely communicating with us and ignoring our requests for updates. Additionally, the one worker who did show up kept an extremely cluttered work space and did not clean up after himself, i.e. trash in our yard and spare lumber and composite everywhere. Going into the fourth week there is no worker, no contact from Jairo G, no nothing. We press Jairo G on the order for the remaining materials, which constitute about 40% of the remaining deposit we gave him and he goes silent. At that point we start researching Jairo G and the validity of Latin Builders. We discover he goes by a variety of names and business addresses and the Latin Builders website uses a non-working telephone number and email address. It seems clear to me at this point that Latin Builders and Jairo are financially unstable and have been using my deposit money to fund other projects that they didn’t have the money to complete. They will not be completing our project and we would never use them again. I recommend being extremely cautious if you are considering Latin Builders for your next project. They were extremely frustrating to work with and there is no guarantee they will fulfill their obligations. On a last note, the new contractor completing our project has found several problems with the portion of the work Latin Builders completed.

I hired the Latin Builders (Jairo Ruiz) to work on my deck. The job is just completed and was wrought with issues and stress. The contractor is beyond awful. The 2-3 week job turning to 3+ months. The workers would come one day, then not again for a week, then half a day, etc. The contractor would set, miss and reset deadlines. He hit zero deadlines -- not a single one the entire time and he set at least 20 so there were many opporutnities. At one point one of his workers showed up threatening me (!) because Jairo, the contractor, did not pay him. Jairo himself got on the phone and threatened to call the cops on this guy to get him to leave. I guess that is good of him to do, but he created the problem in the first place. He mis-measured on TWO occassions leading to major mistakes and oversights and lost time/cost. He did not know the code and neglected to add an outlet, which he subsequently tried to charge me for even though it was included in the original contract. Oh and speaking of code... none of the four inspections were passed the first time. Most of them took 3-4 attempts. I will have to pay to have someone else come to review the work and make any necessary changes -- *just* at code is not what we discussed. I could go on... You can believe the person who had a decent experience, but I would avoid Jairo and Latin Builders.
