Everything for my out of state move was completed within the very tight schedule as promised. Less than 2 weeks from initial contact to completed move. All of my things were well cared for and nothing was broken or damaged. The pick up was completed quickly and the delivery was also very efficient. With that said, they took the time to move things to a new spot when requested.

This was an out of state move. Unfortunately, the apartment I planned to move into was not suitable. Mike from Dakydes stood by me as far as being flexible to move my stuff into a more appropriate apartment. His professionalism, efficiency, and reliability helped to decrease my stress during a highly stressful situation. I highly recommend him and his team!!

Moved to a new place 20 mins away (1 bed apt from a room in house with kitchen and living room items) and had decided at the last minute i wanted to do it the next day since I had off from work and would save on money to be out earlier. They responded on thumbtack within half an hour and had the appt sched for next morning between 10-11. Very communicative about the team (Jerrod and Darrel I believe) running a bit behind but they were here by 11. Had a moving special but still moved efficiently and were friendly. One of them kept taking phone calls which i would have preferred to not happen but they seemed to be busy with prospective customers and they got me moved in to a 3rd floor apt with half an hour to spare (2 men for 3 hrs) and put my bed back together for me too. I had moved some stuff already but still had some boxes and big furniture items. They were quick, efficient, nothing was dropped or damaged, and they were personable which made the experience even better. I had apparently used them on a previous move a few years ago so it was apparently meant to be (haha). That move was smooth and efficient as well from what I remember. Ill definitely use them again in the future if needed.

Nelson and his team are professionals and a pleasure to work with. Our move was to an out of state location and presented some unforseen problems and delays. These guys rolled with the punches, never losing their cool or professionalism or sense of humor! They will always be at the top of my list. You can't go wrong by hiring these guys!!

Even though we had some trouble initially to schedule the move on time, once the movers showed up they did an outstanding job. They walked through the house and got a clear picture on what to move where and came up with a plan before actually moving stuff. Very professional in their approach and paid special attention to ensure no damages occur to the house and furniture. I will highly recommend them.

These guys were awesome! This was my first time hiring professional movers and I would definitely use them again. I'm the type that called every single moving company to get a quote and compare and what convinced me to book TVC was the price and all the positive reviews! Definitely cannot beat the price and you're still getting great responsible, professional movers.

Excellent service. I had another cleaning service come out to clean my new home in which is the seller left in a disgusting state and they did not do a good job. After attempting to do some cleaning myself, I decided to contact at a Glance of Heaven stating I needed service today. Moving while being pregnant and chasing after an 18 month old was already challenging, I was not expecting this level of dirt to clean and simply didn't have the energy. They were able to come within 2-3 hours. They did an amazing job. The previous owner had 6 puppies and 3 cats. The house smell like animal urine. The bathrooms look like they haven't been cleaned in months. Dust and dead bugs everywhere. We had a 2-3 month closing period and I'm convinced the seller did not clean since we last saw the house in early January. They cleaned windows including dirt and bug build up in the window sills, baseboards, doors, switches, floors, etc. Every part of the bathrooms was scrubbed down. The house looked and smelled amazing afterward. I literally have no complaints. I will continue to use them every 2 weeks for maintaining my house.

The two men were on time, professional and got the job done in a good amount of time. Covenant Moving is very affordable and I recommend them to anyone looking for good movers.

Jerry and his team did a great job with our out of state move. My family and I very recently moved out of our single family home in North Carolina into our newly built home for in Maryland. Jerry and team made the move as stress free as possible. They arrived on time on a Sunday, delicately wrapped all the fragile furniture and loaded all our belongings into the truck like playing a game of Tetris. There was no worry about the storage of my belongings and we were met in our new home 2 days later. With the same ease of loading they unloaded and unwrapped our furniture and placed the items in the desired locations. We had several rooms on several levels; and they were careful with all the furniture and floors. choices and they met the task with speed and quality. They were friendly but professional with speed but quality was not compromised and the price was very reasonable for the service we received. I could not have been more pleased with the move and I highly recommend them to anyone looking to move in the future. Thank you for doing an amazing job & treating my family like yours.

Pick Up Movers was recommended to me by a friend. These movers are really the diamond in the rough. I hired them to move my belongings from one state to another. I hired them because they quoted reasonably. The services they provided were outstanding. They finished packing all my belongings in just 2 hours. They made the delivery on time. All my valuables were intact and nothing suffered even the slightest of damage. I would definitely use them again.

We hired A1for moving out of state. the price was reasonable for a 31/2 hour drive to our new destination. Peter, the owner and his crew showed up on time. They were very careful with moving heavy items and made sure that they did not damage the furniture or the walls in tight areas when carrying items down the stairs. They picked up our stuff the day before and were promptly on time with the drop off. Overall excellent service. When Peter realized there was a box that did not make it off the truck, he mailed it to us on the Tuesday following the move. One cannot ask for better customer service. Would definitely recommend this company

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
