Had pet odor from puppy, had carpets cleaned from another vendor but still had odor, Mark took steps to determine I did not have mold or mildew beneath the carpet and took steps to deodorize and get rid of the puppy odor. Also was helpful in steps to keep home odor free.

Timeline of work to be done: After having a company back out due to a heavy work load and no time to complete ours, I contacted Ben to see if he would be willing and able to do the work we needed within a short time frame as we were moving in on the 23rd. Ben was gracious enough to meet me at our home on Thursday, August 14th, for a walk through. While here, he noticed a strong pet smell from the previous owner's pets and spoke with me about the carpets and said he could have someone out the next day to have them cleaned and deodorized. Yes, he does carpets too! That was immediately agreed upon and then later that evening, as promised, he sent an estimate on the painting project and we accepted his proposal. Description of work: In addition to having the carpets cleaned in 7 bedrooms, 2 stairwells, and 4 additional living areas, they were to paint ceilings, trim and walls in office, dining room, entry, downstairs bath, downstairs bedroom, den, kitchen, 2 stairwells, large playroom, bedroom and bathroom. Then we added to our contract our master bedroom and bathroom, upstairs hallway, bathroom and all closets in rooms that we painted ourselves. Process: The carpets were cleaned on Friday and over the weekend we noticed an even stronger smell of pet urine in several rooms. Ben sent his cleaning crew out a second time later in the week, at no extra charge, to retreat specific areas. After the second time, we were both satisfied with the results. We knew that he would not be able to have his painting crew start until Tuesday, August 19th, and Tuesday morning they promptly arrived and got started prepping walls. The gentlemen that Ben has working with and for him are top notch, very polite and hard workers. They had a lot of work to do here and worked odd hours throughout the week to make sure everything was done in time and to our satisfaction. The quality of work met our expectations and then some. From our perspective: Would we hire BWH Services again? Yes. Would we recommend Ben? Absolutely, without a doubt. What went wrong? Nothing. Ben saw a need - we were without painters and were moving in a week's time - and while he knew it would be pushing it to get the work done, he had faith in his crew(s) that they could do it and they did. Ben is a stand up guy, very polite and engaging. It's doesn't seem to be just business with him, but about building relationships to help meet customers needs for now and for the future. THANK YOU, Ben and BWH Services, for providing OUTSTANDING quality work at a very reasonable and fair price. We appreciate all that you did to help make our move a little less stressful.

ABL is the best carpet and upholstery cleaning service I have ever used. I thought I would have to replace my carpeting due to pet stains (urine and blood). Every spot came out. The owner of the company did the job and it was perfectly done in every room. He was professional, personable, polite, did excellent work and charged a fair price. He put new life into old, tired-looking carpeting. I would recommend him to anyone who is contemplating purchasing new carpeting, but wishes they could extend the life of the one on the floor. Great company!

Paul and his crew did an excellent job. We called Paul's company after our new house flooded due to a faulty washer. Paul replaced carpet, linoleum and wood laminate floors for us, as well as installing new tile in our kitchen. He also repaired our ceiling and dry wall and found preexisting damage to the subfloor we were able to take care of it. He was very professional and easy to get in contact with, I would definitely recommend him for future jobs.

Replaced carpet in 5 bedrooms. John & his team did an excellent job. John came to our home several times during the planning phase to bring different samples & was very patient giving me as much time as needed to select carpeting. He explained the differences in the styles & quality of rug pads & carpets & made helpful suggestions when needed. Installation went quickly & we love our new carpeting!

May 3, 2016 RE: Reference for Black Dog Discount Carpet To Whom It May Concern: I do very little without a referral which is why I do not hesitate to offer my opinion when asked. When it was time to replace the carpet in my rental property, I was referred by my property manager to Black Dog Discount Carpet who installed carpet in my home yesterday. I was completely satisfied with the level of their work. The owner Annie answered the phone each time I called and both she and her installer Jessie, demonstrated that they are a highly capable company with proven abilities in all aspects of carpeting. Specifically, I was pleased with how they started my project in a timely manner. They completed the job quickly and efficiently from the point of taking proper measurements to the installation. I found their responsiveness far exceeded other carpet companies with whom I have worked with. Given this experience, I can confidently recommend Black Dog Discount Carpet to anyone looking for quality carpet and installation at a discount rate. I wouldn’t hesitate to contact them again in the future. Sincerely, Pamela V. Johnson Charlotte, NC

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is the cheapest carpet?

If you’re looking to reduce carpet installation costs, there are several ways to save. Start by considering your carpeting needs. Manufactured materials such as polyester and nylon will be cheaper than natural fibers such as wool. From big box retailers, starting prices for olefin-based carpet are approximately 50 cents per square foot — making the cost under $5 per square yard. Indoor carpets made with olefin fibers are typically the least expensive on the market. Keep in mind that olefin fibers are not as soft on bare feet as other fibers, so are often used in areas like basements, playrooms or indoor patios. Nylon and polyester are good options to reduce carpet installation costs while still creating a cozy feel. The face weight, fiber construction and density of a carpet all affect the cost per square foot. The cheapest nylon or polyester carpets can start at just under $2 per square foot, making them about $18 per square yard. Lower-cost carpet tends to wear out more quickly and show stains more easily, so avoid light colors and vacuum regularly to keep the fibers clear of dirt that might age it too quickly.

How much does it cost to install carpet?

If you’re ready to bring new life into your house with a makeover from the ground up, you’re ready to learn more about carpet installation costs. Installation costs vary greatly, depending on a number of factors such as the type of carpet, the number of square yards, any necessary repair work, the number of stairs you have, and where you live. Due to these variables, the national average cost of carpet installation ranges between $200 and $4,500.

To start planning for your new carpet, measure roughly how many square yards of carpet you’ll need. Research the main carpet styles and materials you like to get a feel for what they cost. Nylon carpets are typically the least expensive, and wool is one of the higher-end carpets. Prices per square foot might range from under $2 to over $10, depending on materials. Count the number of stairs you want carpeted; each one might average between $3 and $10 (or more for box steps). Carpet removal can be an added cost as well, averaging $1-$4 per square yard, depending on the company and regional disposal costs.

How much does it cost to carpet a bedroom?

If you’re building a new home, remodeling, or ready for new carpet in your bedroom, you’ll want to know carpet installation costs. Here are the factors that affect the cost of your new bedroom carpet:

      • Installation cost per square yard: From under $2 to over $6. Carpet companies have a labor cost per square foot for installing your new carpet. Depending on where you live in the country, that rate can vary greatly. This rate does not include the cost of the carpet.
      • Type of carpet: from $1 per square foot to $20 or more per square foot. The fibers that make up your carpet will have a direct effect on cost. As an example, specialty wool carpets may start at about $10 per square foot, while a manufactured fiber like nylon may be about $2 per square foot.
      • Removal of old carpet: from $1 to $4 per square yard. Old carpet is labor-intensive to remove and also costs money to dispose of or recycle. The cost to remove carpet will depend on how much carpet you need removed and whether your installation pros offer a discounted rate for installing your new carpet at the same time.
      • Subfloor repair: from $40 to $70 per hour (plus materials cost). If the flooring underneath your old carpet is damaged, it must be repaired before the new carpet is installed. Many carpet pros can offer this service, or you can hire a handyman to handle the job.
      • Type of carpet pad: $1 per square yard and up, depending on the thickness. The cost to install carpet pad is typically included with the labor cost per yard of installing the carpet itself.

How much does it cost to install carpet on stairs?

The number of stairs you want carpeted in your home will directly affect your carpet installation cost. Putting carpet on stairs generally increases the labor time and requires a higher degree of detail than laying carpet flat. Where you live in the country also plays a role in your carpet installation cost. Carpet installation companies in smaller towns with a lower cost of living and a lower cost to do business (insurance, company vehicles, employee labor, etc.) can usually offer their customers lower rates than companies in large cities where the cost of living and the cost to do business are higher. Carpet pros will often quote you a flat rate per stair once they do a site visit to provide an estimate. They’ll take into account the size of each stair you want carpeted (including both the step and the riser), and what type of stair it is. For example, the cost might range between $3 and $10 per stair for labor only. On the higher end of the spectrum, box stairs or staircase stairs with spindles that must be worked around might cost between $15 and $25 per stair.
