Antonio remodeling installed 12”x 24” tile in my kitchen, laundry, bathroom floor and also my tub surround. We’d had them install subway tile backsplash in our kitchen. They were very professional and have great craftsmanship. The crew made sure to clean up at the end of the day and kept their work area clean. I will definitely hire again with confidence

Stephen, was exceptional! I can't say enough good things about Stephen's professionalism, expertise and timeliness! Stephen was a pleasure to work with! He was right on time for the project with an extremely fair price! I will post pics of my before and after. The work he did on our tile backsplash was the Best I have ever seen. We have had many compliments already on his work in our kitchen. We are going to use his services again in our master bath. I have recommended Stephen to all my Family and Friends....Thanks so much Stephen!!! Sincerely, Joe Wiehoff

I retained Suzanne to design a luxe master bedroom, a sunroom and living room in my 3800 sq. ft. home at Lake Norman. She honed right in on my personality & tastes, integrating my eclectic, modern style & specific personal needs, actually exceededing my expectations ! Her natural gift for color, selecting unusual textiles and balance is amazing and will not disappoint. I am a stickler for details and good communication. Suzanne personally oversaw the project to delivery and within budget. She even designed a statement piece using my late father's European watch collection which is unique. She is not afraid to rake risks but not at a client's expense. I love the outcome, have gotten many compliments and highly recommend Suzanne Starnes Designworks.

The experience I had with Matt and American Made Construction was to say the least amazing. He and his crew transformed my drad, dreary kitchen and bathroom, to my focal point. He was able to help me decide on designs and product choices to fit my budget, while also meeting my expected results. GREAT team to work with... Marissa H.

My husband and I have been very impressed with not only the work but Michael's work ethic. The first job done for us was scraping popcorn off the ceilings throughout the whole house. The crew worked diligently to get the job done in the short time frame I had available. Then, I found termite damage in three walls in which this crew was able to quickly come out and repair. It's the professionalism, knowledge, and efficiency that Morse Painting and Repair has demonstrated that has me calling them back to help with some kitchen remolding. I feel confident that I will be pleased with the next job and I am relieved to know I have someone to call if we have a problem.

I contacted Ann Lamm because I've been in my home since 1985 and it has remained the same since then. It had a very dull look to it and things just didn't look right. I found Ann Lamm and I brought her to my house and she spent hours at my home and she showed me what I needed to do with my home to make it beautiful and functional. She eliminated a lot of clutter from my home and she really nailed it. I loved working with her. I have worked with other interior designers, and nobody compares! She is excellent, and her prices are VERY reasonable! I would recommend her to anyone that is on a budget. She worked with me through everything and really cared about my needs.

Kathland Designs is staffed with individuals who have style and an eye for value. The designers are open to my ideas, but have their own great ideas to offer, too. The quality of products carried by Kathland Design is matched only by the reasonable prices. I like being able to easily navigate through the site, communicate with the designers, and order the things that I want. For style, beauty, and dependability, I recommend Kathland Design.

Russ Ruckman, Ruckman Renovations I chose Russ after seeking information from Thumbtack. We had a complete bathroom makeover. Removal of tub and shower install, double vanity, etc. Russ and his staff were awesome. They did complete demo and removal and Russ listened carefully to my wants/needs. Not knowing exactly what I wanted in all areas Russ patiently helped me through the process of choosing the right product and I respected his opinion in all aspects. His sense of design and corrdinating are great. Work was completed within the date set. I can honestly say he will always go out of his way to satisfy the customer. When I had questions he responded quickly and with great thought. Since we are an older couple I must say we felt at ease and had confidence in him. Thumbtack was very helpful in assisting me in finding the "best contractor" I know.

I’m an interior design student looking to get started in the interior design business. I’m ready to help transform rooms!

My trademark is designing warm and inviting environments. Covering a diverse field of residential, commercial, showroom and, retail sales. My interest lie in offering an expertise in space planning, design of window treatments, restyling ( this could be moving furniture to re-accessorizing, which in itself can make a home seem like a new environment, and shopping for new pieces. We are taking care of any design project in a turnkey manner for the client. Clients just need to give me a design direction and I will handle the rest, enabling them to go about their business and know they will be consulted on all decisions. Talking to my client to find their style is most important to me, as I want their space to reflect their personality. I also have a strong attention to detail and like to keep my clients' budgets as cost-effective as possible. As a designer having attended Kendall College of Design, my clients have included, large law firms, doctor's offices, high end showrooms, residential homes in Myrtle Beach and as far away as Kuwait.

We design timeless interiors to meet your functional lifestyle. We have had the honor of receiving "The Readers Choice Award" for 2012 and 2013.

I am a Durham based interior designer who has always had a passion for design. The spaces you live and spend time in should be a reflection of yourself and be welcoming and inviting.

I love to do interior design projects and usually work B2B, or on a client basis on individual projects from trend and color forecasting to price, texture and getting the desired feel that the customer is going for. I can accomplish it all. My major was in textiles so I know a lot about this realm/industry in the market.

I do all aspects of interior design, including painting and bathroom and kitchen remodeling/upgrading. Shopping for bargains to give my clients the ultimate living space that will put a smile on their faces is one of my goals. Interior design has been a passion of mine from a very early age. It runs through my veins. I also enjoy designing and installing kitchen backsplashes. It can make or break the overall design of a kitchen; it's like icing on a cake. If you are a do-it-yourselfer and just need some ideas or if you need full design service, I would love to assist you. I have affordable rates and magnificent service.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.
