Mark answered my request and came to see what I needed done within hours of my request. I have a large yard with several gardens, big oak and magnolia trees, a row of 10 large holly bushes, and another hedge of privet bushes. Mark mowed the lawn, weedeated the entire yard, trimmed all the hollies and privet bushes, cleaned up all the clippings, blew off everything. He was here 6 hours. He did an outstanding job! His communication was great -- he either texted, emailed, or called me to let me know exactly when he would arrive. I am extremely pleased with his work and his price. I am hiring him on a weekly basis.

My brother asked me to find a tree removal specialist while I was house/dog sitting. Precision Tree Experts (PTE) came over to the property promptly (first to respond) to review the project and provide a quote. I was pleased that they would work with me on the price. We ended up with a fair fair price. The project was to remove a tree that was leaning, being held up by another, smaller tree. The tree threatened a garage, the neighbors fence and a play set. PTE removed the tree within 2 days of being hired. I was really impressed with the crafty workmanship involved with cutting down this tree with so many things in the way and no access for heavy equipment. I highly recommend PTE any tree removal project.

We had 3 trees removed (one huge, inside a patio) and Mr. Majano and his workers did a first rate job, leaving the area clean and neat. We will call on him when we need more tree work-- recommend them highly. A bonus was that their price was a bit better than their nearest competitor. Glad we chose Majanos Tree Service.

Steve was extremely fair as I originally have 3 trees removed and after he assessed the trees determined that only one tree had to be removed. He did an excellent.job in taking the tree down and trimmed several large branches that were hanging over the roof of the house. Cleaned up all areas and hauled Everything away. Looks much better now and no more worry about clogged up gutters. Thank you Steven!

I was very pleased with the tree service from Presto Landscape & Tree. Jose and his brother trimmed the overgrown tree in my front yard and ALL the bushes/trees in my backyard (about 20 in total). He was very personable, worked very hard in the 90 degree heat, and gave me a fair price for the job. I would use him again for my tree trimming needs and would recommended him.

He really did a great job and was able to do the work soon after quoting. Rob was friendly, knowledgeable, and communicated very well. The only reason I gave a 4/5 is the price. First let me say that my backyard was a mess. I have poison ivy, vines, overgrown trees and much more. However, it’s only a small portion of my back yard and I was quoted $775. That’s about $90/hour for the amount of time he was there. I’m by no means trying to discourage anyone from using Rob, he did a great job, but $90/hour may be quite steep for lawn work....that’s almost 3 times what I make with an engineering degree. In the end he knocked off $200 because I said I would do bagging up of the sticks and leaves. It only took me 1.5 hours to do...It doesn’t make sense to pay someone $100/hr to gather up sticks and put them on the curb.

We hired them to cut down 5 trees on our property and we wanted to keep the wood. They were very precise on where they wanted them to land and they did a awesome job, trees fell exactly where they planned. They cut the trees into logs once the trees were on the ground. Great price and wonderful people to deal with.

Daniel and his crew did an outstanding job from start to finish. Provided me with a quote within an hour. Originally called him for a quote to remove a storm damaged tree leaning on my neighbors adjacent tree. He not only removed that tree but gave me a great price to remove 4 additional dead trees. He did all the work next day and he and his crew were fantastic. I would not hesitate to recommend him and his crew. I certainly will use him whenever I need any additional tree work. Great job.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
