My entire experience with Stone, Soil and Shrubs has been excellent. I’ve happily contracted lawn service with this company for about ten years. The monthly service plan we have includes all mowing, trimming, all fertilizer and chemical applications, all pruning, and twice yearly seeding as needed. In addition to this, we’ve also retained them to provide a la carte services such as resolving drainage issues, tree removal, hardscaping, sodding, and the planting and transplanting everything from annuals to trees to entire beds. They are reasonably priced for the high level of service they provide and they are responsive to any query or complaint—and those are rare. Most of my immediate neighbors have used them either on contract or for single-service jobs. I have never heard a complaint. It isn’t hard to find someone to mow your lawn. It is very hard to find someone who will treat it like their own, and not take shortcuts.

We recently bought a new house and hired Top Notch Lawn Care. They did an amazing job and had a very affordable rate. I was very impressed with the perfect pattern of diagonal lines left in grass. We have rehired them to do our garden rock wall, mulch and flowers. Thanks for your hard work and attention to detail Mr. Daniel Turlington.

WOW! After an extensive search of local landscape design companies (online, google, and even joining Angie's List), we narrowed it down to 2 companies: AMA Landscape Design and one other local business. We called both businesses just to get a feel for what they were like to work with, as well as to inquire about an initial consult/estimate. The first thing that struck me when I called AMA Landscape Design was how professional AND personable Adam Fitch (business owner) was to speak with. Admittedly, I knew very little about Landscape Design and in retrospect, had a very vague idea at best of what I wanted for my home exterior. But Adam was patient and knowledgable enough to guide my wife and me through the process of figuring out what we envisioned for our home. He then created an amazing design plan that made us both happy, AND helped us fine-tune the details to remain within our budget. And so Project "Livingston Home Makeover" began. What impressed me and my wife about Mr. Fitch and his crew was that from beginning to end, EVERY person from AMA who came onto our property during the project was truly respectful (and I mean in speaking to us, never leaving trash or food wrappers to blow around the job site, and working HARD instead of just lazily waiting for their shift to end). Mr. Fitch regularly made sure we were up-to-date on the status of the entire project, including any progress made AND any hurdles/delays encountered along the way. But the very best part was, of course, the completion of the project. We are still just blown away with the home we have today- I actually enjoy coming home and pulling into the driveway, and so proud of our home. Welcoming company into our home used to start with a bit of a cringe until they got up the sidewalk and inside. Not anymore! From the lawn and landscaping, to the hardscaped updates and the overall easy to maintain exterior of our home has been such a blessing. I can't express just how highly I recommend Mr. Fitch and AMA Landscape Design, but we couldn't be happier with our experience. Photos to come!

We are a small landscaping company with many satisfied customers. We have a vast knowledge of plant material and the proper use for particular situations. The importance of proper pruning techniques is essential for the overall health and beauty of any tree, shrub or perennial beds. We are knowledgeable about the proper pruning required to ensure that these two attributes are maintained. We do not use gas-powered trimmers due to the amount of damage they cause, frequently resulting in the death of whatever plant material they are being used on. We are also experienced in the installation of sod and the maintenance and restoration of existing lawns. We are experienced with annuals and create beautiful flower boxes and pots for patios and porches. We are small in size but our passion for what we do is enormous. Our greatest compliment from many of our customers is that "our property has never looked better". We hope to be able to do the same for you.

We offer residential landscape design/build specializing in creating outdoor spaces that help people reconnect with nature, each other and themselves while being responsible with the environment. We do this by creating gardens that are low maintenance, not planting nonnative invasive plants and using a lot of plants native to the southeast. We install patios, retaining walls and water features. Our gardens are teeming with pollinators, butterflies, and birds.

I am a garden designer with wide knowledge of plants and functional design. I specialize in native plants and personal garden experiences for clients.

We are a hands-on, owner-operated company providing a complete property maintenance and personalized service to fit each client's needs.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have landscaping done?

Professional landscaping can help reinvent your outdoor space, boost your curb appeal and get a major return on investment with. Landscaping can encompass anything from adding new plants, trees and shrubs, to leveling the ground and laying sod for a lawn, to building in hardscaping such as sidewalks, water features or retaining walls. The national average landscaping price is $10,160. Landscaping prices can be far lower (with hourly rates ranging from $50 to $150) if you’re only seeking professional help with softscaping or seeking consultation on landscape design. Softscaping means adding or changing horticultural elements, such as planting a garden or adding a hedge. Hardscaping is where costs can really start to rise. Hardscaping requires labor and heavy equipment to excavate the earth; you may need to pour concrete, or you may need a pro who can transport and place gravel and other inorganic elements. Your total landscaping cost will vary based on the amount of work you want done, how much labor is required, and the cost of the materials you are using. A good rule of thumb for a major landscaping project, according to the American Society of Landscape Architects, is to budget 5 percent to 10 percent of the value of your home.

How much does it cost to landscape your front yard?

Prices for landscaping your front yard can range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the scale of your front yard project. Your landscaping price will reflect how much change you implement, how much labor is required, and the cost of materials.

Landscaping is typically made up of softscaping and hardscaping. Softscaping refers to selecting trees, bushes, flowers and plants to achieve a desired aesthetic and to meet goals such as having a drought-tolerant yard. Hardscaping refers to moving earth, installing structures, and putting in decorative stonework, sidewalks or lighting. For softscaping, you may want to hire a landscape designer to consult on your plants and layout, and then do the digging and planting yourself or hire a gardner to handle the heavy lifting. A landscape designer’s hourly rate may range from $50 to $150 or more. If you want a turnkey approach, meaning someone who works with you to create the vision and then executes all the work, landscaping pricing will typically come down to a cost per square foot rather than an hourly rate. It’s a solid investment: Great landscaping can add up to 28 percent value to your home.
