Charles Johnson was a fabulous speaker! He was able to motivate our staff through sharing his experiences and humor. He connected and related to all levels of our organization from C-level to admins. The out pouring of positive feedback after Mr. Johnson's presentation was the most I have ever received as the HR Director. I would highly recommend him!

About

Georgina “Joy” Dukes, Romeo’s mom! Where do I start? We met in 2013 because our birthdays were two days apart. From that day we had a crazy connection. Both growing up with troublesome surroundings. Here I was thinking my life had crazy times and I made it out, but listening to Joy’s story really opened my eyes. “Like how?”- is what I though to myself. How can anyone still work nights, go to school during the day, full time mother, and find time to speak and be a leader for others. That by itself made me hard on myself, I felt as if I wasn’t working hard enough. I had no work experience in my major and Joy felt that was unacceptable. We instantly started working on my resume and building up experience to make me a brand that engineering companies wanted to recruit. She constantly asked me questions on what I did in school like I was her child:-) ! I’m thought to myself, “I’m older than you!” but I let it slide because she meant good. After all of our hard-work on grooming the resume, I submitted my resume and got a call right away on my first submission for an interview for an internship. Joy didn’t leave me hanging once I got an interview! Joy was available at any time of the day and night to answer questions to improve my professional experience. Joy and I worked a couple of days, practicing over every possible question I could be asked. I was well prepared. Before the interview Joy, constantly reminded me over and over that I needed a portfolio. I had no clue what she was talking about. I can still hear her voice screaming “it’s a leather folder!” Long story short I mastered the interview and got the offer with the help of Joy. Fast forward a year… I’m getting ready to graduate and who do I call upon entering the real world? Joy, of course! “Joy I need help, Turner is my number one choice, Norfolk is my number 2.” She came by my side to help me through the process, resume assistance and interview practicing. This time I didn’t listen to Joy about the behavioral based interview questions. She expressed to me over and over that I need to know how to handle behavioral based questions for engineering job interviews but I thought it would be a breeze like my internship interview. Let’s just say, I didn’t get the second interview with Turner. ” It’s okay Herb!” Joy said. “We still have Norfolk!” This time I was ready! Once again, Joy was right. When applying for these full time engineering positions, they knew I had the education and work experience, but they also wanted to know how I handle tough situations. It is now 2016 and I’m still working for Norfolk and still calling Joy to help edit my resume. I sent her what I came up with and in 5mins she sent back you need actions words! Georgina ” Joy” Dukes will do whatever she can to help others succeed. She really helped me and I know she will do the same for others.
