Victor contacted me back promptly for some electrical work I needed repairing. He came out and was very polite and friendly. I had a few bad outlets (the outlet for my new stove and outside lights wouldn't work) and my upstairs A/C wasn't running. After accessing everything from the inside and out, he was able to determine that there were two faulty wires and a bad fuse. He replaced those. I then had him look at why the upstairs A/C was not working. The previous A/C Repairman said I just needed a new unit, but Victor was able to see that both of my A/C's (upstairs and downstairs units) were on one line and that was probably too much. So, he split the lines, and now both are running great! And, he was VERY reasonable on pricing. He explained what he did & why...and made sure I was satisfied with the job. I would definitely hire him again for any future electrical issues and/or projects.

Mr. Rooter sent out a technician promptly, and it was determined I needed a new water heater. The technician removed the old water heater, left and returned with a new heater and installed it within 3 hours. The cost was reasonable and the service was exceptional. I purchased a "membership" which gave me a discount equal to the cost of the membership. The membership included future discounts on service, equipment and yearly water heater maintenance.

Leroy was very accommodating and responsive. Not only did he take care of the water heater replacement, he also took the time to address other plumbing concerns I had in the house and also got those fixed since he had the parts on his van. He also educated me on maintenance of the water heater and also gave recommendations regarding my other plumbing concerns factoring in my perspective and plans for the house in the near-term. I highly recommend Leroy -- great service, knowledgeable, and also informative! Leroy rocks!

Kyle came out on Labor Day at no extra charge and tried to get the water heater the same day but it couldn't be done. I have a special water heater but he knew exactly what to get and how to install. It was a complicated job and I feel confident that it was done very well. Thank you Kyle.

On a Saturday morning I woke to no water. This is disastrous when you work Monday through Friday. I knew there was a problem and searched for a plumber on Thursday. He left his phone number a a quote for the labor. I called on Saturday and he came over at 3:00 pm. He was very professional, brought my husband with him to Lowes to purchase the products and was done by 5:30. I now have water. To boot it was his birthday. Happy Birthday and thank you. I will definitely recommend and refer customers to you.

Javier was very friendly, responsive, and helpful. I initially called him to look at a few leaks I knew about and he gave me a free inspection. I just bought my house and it was built in 1961 so it had a few issues. He noticed that I had no pressure regulator valve so my water pressure was way too high. He fixed this and the leaks and installed a main water shutoff valve inside my house so that I can shut off the water without having to go into the crawl space. He was very quick to respond to emails and in getting the work done. I highly recommend Javier.

If you need a good plumber read this review. I did not know anyone associated with Fuller services prior to this experience. I live in Southern Pines. My daughter lives in North Raleigh and needed a plumber. I told her I would coordinate a solution. I contacted several plumbers in the Raleigh area and got quotes. I arranged to meet with two of the plumbers at my daughters place in Raleigh. I let both of them know that I needed the job done that day because I had to get back home that evening. After meeting with both plumbers I hired Fuller Services. The reasons he got the job was: 1). He showed up on time! 2). He had a plumbers truck loaded with supplies. 3). He wore booties when entering the house "clean". 4). We talked about placing the water main shutoff inside the house instead of in the crawlspace and replacing the hot water tank to gain some storage space. I liked William Fullers plan. 5) Price was competitive. William Fuller also installed a new shower / tub valve and 10 new water shutoffs at lavatories and sinks. Fortunately I made the right choice in hiring Fuller Services. His price was not the cheapest but the job was professional and completed by 5:30 same day. You made my job of being a concerned father seamless. The work was professional and clean!! I still had time to enjoy dinner with my daughter and got home before dark. If we ever need any more plumber work done I definitely know who I will be calling! Thank you.

George certainly emphasizes customer service. From the beginning, he answered all of my questions and was very helpful with suggestions concerning the best method of repair. He replaced a gas control valve on my water heater but also resolved some additional issues, ensuring its proper operation. His vast level of experience is obvious. You cannot go wrong if you select this individual for your service needs.

Courtney from North East Services did some excellent work for me on short notice on a Saturday. My upstairs attic A/C system wasn't kept in good shape (by previous owner) when I had bought my home; one-day, water backed up in the A/C emergency pan and leaked through my ceiling. The next day (a hot hot Saturday), I located North East Services on Thumbtack and Courtney came by same-day after giving me a good detail estimate. He diagnosed multi issues with my upstairs A/C unit: His thourough explanation gave me the peace of mind of knowing exactly what the problems were. There were multiple issues that Courtney fixed for me on his trip out: bad electrical connection on A/C fan, incorrectly mounted A/C water overflow shutoff mechanism (leading to ceiling damage), then he proceeded to clean out the A/C drainage hose and check the function of the A/C compressor outside (he added one pound freon). I would recommend Courtney to work on your HVAC; he's skilled, articulate, and fair on price!. Eric

We were moving into a house knowing there was an existing hot water pressure problem to be fixed and a speculative quote from Lloyd. Lloyd quickly found a nickel in the incoming line to the water heater and saved us money in the process. In the future, we will definitely be calling Lloyd first and referring him to everyone!

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long is a water heater supposed to last?

Your water heater is an essential part of your home, heating water for showers, dishwashing, laundry and more. On average, a traditional water heater will last 8-12 years. The general consensus is that it’s better to replace your water heater with a new one than to repair one that’s 10 years old or more. Older models are less energy-efficient and thus more costly to run than newer models with better technology. Here are some indicators of when it may be time to replace an old water heater instead of repairing it:

    • Leaks: If leaking is not caused by loose connections, the water may be seeping out through slight fractures in the metal of the tank that have formed over time.
    • Strange noises: Clanking, rumbling and other noises can mean that sediment has formed on the base of your tank, contributing to fissures leaks, and inefficiency.
    • Age: If it’s more than 10 years old, it’s probably time to replace.
    • Discolored or rusty water: Have a pro check it out; if the problem isn’t resolved by draining and cleaning, you’ll want to replace the heater.
    • Lack of hot water: Inconsistent heating and hot water supply that runs out too quickly likely means it’s time for a new unit.

How much does it cost to install a hot water heater?

You’ll know when it’s time to install a new water heater. Water heater installation costs average between $360 and $780 nationally, with rates increasing depending on the project. The total project cost will be higher when you include the cost of the heater itself. Select your new water heater based on the number of occupants in your home and the number of gallons of capacity you’ll need. Installation costs can vary based on the type of water heater you are removing and the type you are installing, any necessary repairs, regional cost of labor, and whether disposal of the old heater is included. Natural gas water heaters retail on average between $650 and $900 for standard models. Electric water heaters range between $300 and $700 for standard models. Tankless electric water heaters retail on average between $250 and $700 for standard models. Tankless gas water heaters retail on average between $200 and $1,300.

A company may charge approximately $1,000 to replace a 50-gallon tank-style electric water heater (not including any upgrades required by building codes). Replacing a gas-powered water heater might cost $1,100 (not including code upgrades). Some companies roll the disposal of an old heater into the overall cost of the new water heater installation. Other professionals charge an additional removal fee that can range from $35 to $150.

Why is the water in my house not getting hot?

If the water in your house is not getting hot, it may be time for water heater repair. Nationally, the average water heater repair cost ranges between $120 and $200, although prices can range up to $400, depending on the problem and materials. Competent homeowners may also be able to try DIY fixes, whether they have a traditional gas or electric water heater or a tankless gas or electric heater. Troubleshooting the different issues that can arise with each of the styles requires some knowledge of how they operate and what red flags to look out for. For a natural gas water heater, the first step is to check whether the pilot light has gone out. It’s important to follow the manufacturer’s directions if you want to relight it yourself. If you smell gas, stop everything and call your gas company — the smell could signal a dangerous gas leak. If your household’s water is not getting hot enough, you can try increasing the temperature on the water heater’s front dial above the standard setting of 120 degrees; for safety, always turn off electricity to the unit before adjusting temperatures. If you keep running out of hot water, your household may simply need a higher-capacity water heater, so consider upgrading. Quick professional fixes include replacing the thermostat or heating elements and cleaning and repairing the thermocouple.

How much does it cost to install a tankless hot water heater?

Tankless water heaters usually cost more to install than traditional tanks, because many homes need to be retrofitted to accommodate the new system. Tankless electric water heaters retail on average between $150 and $1,200, and tankless natural gas water heaters retail between $200 and $1,300 on average. The lower prices ($150-$250) are generally for point-of-use tankless heaters that can be installed to boost hot water in high-demand areas such as the bathroom or kitchen sink. Tankless water heaters designed to heat whole homes usually start under $300 at the low end and go up to $1,400 or more. Pricing for whole-home varies with the heater’s technology and features. Nationally, standard water heater installation costs average $360-$780, but tankless water heater installation costs may range from $400 to $1,000, depending on the work needed. Some perks of tankless water heaters are that they have nearly double the life expectancy of traditional water heaters and are generally more cost-efficient. Homeowners may be able to save $100 or more per year on their utility bills with an Energy Star approved tankless heater, depending on how much hot water they use.

How much does it cost to fix a hot water heater?

Nationally, the average water heater repair cost ranges between $120 and $200, although prices can range up to $400 or more. Water heater repair costs will depend on the type of water heater you have (tankless, electric, natural gas, etc.), the source of the problem, the cost for new parts, and labor rates in your area. Common water heater issues include problems with the thermocouple, thermostat, heating element and leaks. Most standard electric water heaters have two thermostats and two elements. One example for the cost to replace a bad thermostat is $185 for parts and labor. Replacing both the thermostat and the heating element could cost approximately $150-$200. The thermocouple is a safety device that senses when the pilot light is burning and signals the gas valve to close if the pilot light goes out. If your thermocouple is bad or corroded, the average cost to clean and repair it could be between $350 and $400. If your water heater has started to leak, it is usually more cost-effective to invest in a new water heater than to repair it, unless you’re covered by a warranty.
