We were pleasantly surprised by a repair service that actually knew what they were doing. So many reviews out there about disappointed customers . Randy’s Appliance Repair was great. We have Samsung French door with freezer on the bottom that was leaking a good amount of water on the floor from under the unit. The refrigerator is only 9 months old and had been doing this on & off for about 3 months. We could no longer make ice and all of the freezer compartment and food was caked with ice. NOT GOOD! Randy and Bobby easily determined what problem and solution would be. After defrosting the freezer Randy pulled the inadequate rubber drain valve (planned obsolescence SAMSUNG 😬🤬) He said he sees this problem all of the time and just snipped if the end a bit to open it up! Randy also pointed out a leaking water valve that was contributing to the overall problem. This was not a job for an amateur. When the valve comes in he will come back to install it at no extra charge. We are so pleased with professionalism and expertise exhibited by Randy and Bobby. We will call Randy again for future appliance issues and if we need to replace an appliance will get his recommendations. Wish I could give 10 stars instead of 5.

I was extremely pleased with their ability to repair my appliance. They re-diagnosed the problem and got it right when the first appliance repair company mis-diagnosed it. Which saved me TONS of money. The only thing I would say this company could work on is scheduling. They told me they would be at my house between 1-3, and at 2:45, when I hadn't heard from them, I called. Then I was told they would be at my house at 4:00. The repairman arrived after 5:00. Still, I would definitely recommend.

Steve responded quickly to my request for someone to come out and take a look at my washing machine the next day. He communicated throughout the day to let me know when he would be arriving and arrived within the agreed upon time frame. Steve was very knowledgable, informed me of a maintenance item I should be doing and let me know what the issue was when discovered. Although it was an easy fix he also took the time to balance the machine for me as well. I would highly recommend Steve's Appliance Repair to anyone and will definitely use him again if the need arises. Thank you!

Buddy helped me out on a couple small projects. Fixing a couple toilets that wouldn't stop running, and installing an attic fan. Both jobs were completed with expert precision and jobs well done. I would recommend Buddy anytime.

I have had Dean do a number of projects at my house. He is clean cut, reasonably priced, and very skilled in construction (and auto repair). Even as a single woman I felt very safe around Dean. Now that I'm married my husband and I still use him. For everything. He was referred to me by a friend who uses him and has become our go to guy and I am happy to list some of the projects he has done for us: Installed light fixtures, fixed leaky shower faucets, fixed our garbage disposal, replaced sink hardware, installed a ceiling fan, installed our microwave, installed our dishwasher, installed a toilet, fixed a toilet that wouldn't stop running, installed a mailbox, installed tile in my kitchen, and I'm sure I am forgetting things. Sometimes we even pay him to help my husband with projects he can't do alone. He is actually a really good teacher too. Now my mother in law and several of my friends use him to help with their projects. He really is great!

I would use them again. They tried to accommodate my crazy schedule. Which didn't work out on the first visit but they were able to the return visit. You can only expect someone to try and work with your schedule when you have to work yourself and pick kids up from school. Thank you Tarheel Appliance Repair for being so very helpful and keeping me in the loop the whole way through.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
    • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
    • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

    How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
