WOW!!! Chad & Tracey constructions is our favorite company of the year. They have been FANTASTIC!!! We bought our first home this Spring had had a few renovations that we wanted to be done before we moved in to make it our dream home. I found Chad on thumbtack, after listing 4 different listings for each separate project. Did not even imagine finding someone who could complete all the projects but, Chad responded to all of them.  After a chat on the phone about what we wanted done and photos sent, we booked! Their prices were very reasonable and he just seemed like an overall genuine dude. During the project week he was in constant communication with us and was very helpful the entire time. There were a few additional things that needed to be done and he was great about finding the easiest, cheapest solution. He also sent us photos of the project (we weren’t living there yet). Fastfoward to the results. OH MY GOD. Simply amazing. His team beyond exceeded my expectations. The paint was perfect, the projects were perfect, and everything was perfectly cleaned upon leaving. We are so happy with the results. I am already thinking of future projects just to hire them again. I you ever are thinking about hiring them for ANYTHING, DO IT!! Seriously, do it. They were so great and I cant even imagine a better, more reasonably priced, more professional team. Thank you guys for everything! We will be back. -Jennie and Phil.

I had a "small" drywall job that I couldn't do myself. I had several contractors offer quotes after seeing the pictures that I sent them. A few guessed at what it would take to fix and an approx cost and others would not take the job because it was below their minimun pricing and not worth their time. Juan came out on a Saturday morning and physically saw the issues that I had and provided a very reasonable quote. He worked around my busy schedule to do the work for me. Juan and his worker were very professional and finished the job in half the time that we thought it would take!! I will definately keep his card and use him for additional jobs I have coming up in the near future!! Thanks Juan!!! Job VERY well done!!

Ken put in laminate floors for my mother. He offered the best price and it took him longer than expected because of the extra work needed. He didn't charge me anything extra like most other contractors. Good guy!

When I looked to hire someone for the renovation work in my bathroom I had three separate contractors do a site visit to review the scope of work so I could walk through the job and my expectations with each one of them in order for them to provide a bid for the work. Kurt's consistent punctuality started with that first site visit and continued until the completion of the work. His bid for the work contained enough detail to assure that he understood the scope of the project for a competitive price. During the initial site visit he demonstrated the hands on knowledge required for the work through his understanding and questions concerning my intentions on drywall work, vanity/plumbing changes, trim adjustments, tiling and the small amount of electrical work contained in the project. Once the details of the proposal were worked out Kurt got started about a week later as he had clearly communicated his timeline for starting the work to me while pricing the job. All the demo and drywall work was completed in the first two days, with the new tiling, vanity install and trim/finish work completed early the following week. I was so impressed with the quality of the work that I added new tiling installation into a second entire bathroom and some additional drywall and trim work in a third bathroom as well. As a project manager for a commercial construction firm I would highly recommend utilizing Allthingshome for future work based on the quality of their work, timeliness of completion and competitive pricing.

Jeff was excellent from start to finish. When he provided the bid he definitely stood out compared to other contractors, you could really tell he knew what he was doing. The work he performed looks fantastic. He is a true professional. I will definitely recommend him to family and friends for any electrical work.

Luigi did a terrific job on our painting project. It was well done on budget and on time. You'd expect that from any professional painter. What really impressed me was his customer service. When he says he'll do something, you can rest assured he will keep his word. And he does a great job in customer communications. That's rare among contractors - at least in my experience. I would hire him again in a heartbeat and have already recommended him to someone.

I moved to Omaha from Boston (which is stressful in and of itself), but Skylar made settling into my new apartment a breeze. I was on the fence between WeDeliverOmaha and Omaha Modern, but WeDeliverOmaha was a few dollars cheaper and they deliver to your door for no extra cost! In addition, Skyler was very patient with me as I decided what items I wanted (we corresponded for several weeks). But what makes WeDeliverOmaha far superior to other businesses is how accommodating Skyler was -- he used his own personal time (and personal vehicle) to deliver my furniture as I needed it during a narrow window of time on a specific day. Incredible. I'd give WeDeliverOmaha 6 stars if I could!

Bob was the best investment I've made for my home! I hired him to finish a bathroom in my basement laundry room. He offered me a solution four other contractors never suggested and ended up helping me save a lot of money while expanding the amount of room! He offered great suggestions and always kept me updated on progress. Incredibly professional and respectful of my home by always cleaning up the worksite. Oh, and he offers wonderful advice on dog training too! All around the best contractor I've worked with in the Omaha area and the first name on my list for all future progress. Call him now, you won't regret it!

A Better Way, Kevin Osborne, did a great job for us! He installed tile and put our bathrooms back together, better than new! He was prompt and courteous. He went above and beyond his quote by including drywall and plumbing work that was unanticipated. He did not nickel and dime for the items he supplied from his truck when something was needed. He kept the site clean daily and was easy to have in my home. He takes pride in his work and it shows! I will recommend him to colleagues and friends.

We have been using United Services for the past three years and have been extremely satisfied with the service, quality of products, pricing and customer service. Our latest home improvement, the exterior of our home, was updated with James Hardy siding, 6 inch gutters, painting, roof and exterior doors. The service we received from Mark Passer and his crews was outstanding. They went above and beyond to ensure we were satisfied, made adjustments when required and ensured we were keep up-to-date as the project progressed. We have no hesitation in recommending United Services Home Improvements for all your home projects.

I loved working with Todd. And if I ever build again, he would be my go to. This is the second home my husband and I have built (one out of state and now the one we live in). And working with him was perhaps one of my very favorite experiences. I have very particular tastes (both aesthetic and functional), have always been very detail oriented, and I am a very hands on client (probably a bit annoying for him and Gloria). He was always accommodating, very involved, and always able to put things back into perspective (to the functional reason). The contractors that he employs have been top notch; always going above and beyond and informing me what they were doing if I stopped by (which I did do daily). I actually got to know most of his contractors and when you realize that they love what they are building, I think it actually shows in their craftsmanship. As for Todd, his attention to perfection just suited my own anal retentiveness. He absolutely puts himself into building this home and I could talk him up forever. I loved working with Gloria. She gives great advice and makes sure that things are communicated. She's also very detail oriented and will keep things on track. We have been in our home for a year. We have had a handful of things that needed repair after a year that involved Todd, but all minor (lighting, driveway cracks due to foundation settling, grout that has some cracks). Probably one major thing that could not have been predicted and really no one's fault was handled immediately. I absolutely LOVE my home. I loved building it. I have maybe two things that I would change (light switch placement on one light and maybe having added the potential frame-out of a fireplace in the semi-unfinished basement). Todd and Gloria both received hugs when we were done. Hands down, when we complete the basement, I plan to have Todd and his contractors back out. He always seemed to see my vision and listened to me when I was very specific in what I had in my head. And when the materials weren't available (or "not in style for Omaha," as one supplier had the gall to tell me), Gloria made sure to hunt down another option that fit what I was looking for. There's something to be said about the Menards. They are a pretty amazing team. It's one thing to listen, one thing to envision, and the other thing to build. So they are a pretty complete package. And let me add, that when I went through a model and expressed that it was and wasn't entirely what I was looking for, I knew that Todd and I would get along when he asked, "Well what would you want to change?" and he took no offense to it. In fact, it solidified our business relationship when he took me room by room and when I expressed something about a nook not being what I would want, he immediately offered other options... It resulted in a giant closet. When we weren't able to install two shower heads, his suggestion were more body sprayers... BEST idea ever. And when I saw something during building that I thought wasn't going to turn out exactly how I envisioned it, there was always the work towards getting it to the best of the availability. One last thing, my husband and I have expressed that we love our home so much that going on fancy vacations won't ever beat being at our own home, we enjoy it so. :)

We have had THE BEST experience with Zach and plan on using him for all future work! I've been using various handymen in the area for 15 years for 4 homes and Zach has surpassed them all! He is highly knowledgeable, skilled, professional, trustworthy and very gentle on the budget. He fixed everything from appliances - broken dryer, ice maker, some plumbing - to drywall, doors, furniture, even agreed to tackle crawl space under house for dryer vent! When an additional dryer piece broke he returned at no extra charge and helped us source least expensive parts online and in person. He is personable, professional, a family man and highly skilled. We would be completely comfortable letting him work in our home on his own and heartily recommend him for any future work - a great find!

Ray Kelch was very professional and did an outstanding job with my concrete driveway expansion. He was prompt and completed the job in one day. I had drainage issues and he made sure he put a swale in the concrete so when it rained, water would flow to the curb. He made an extra cut and did extra work like even out the clay excavation and placed sand and even threw in extra rebar at no extra charge! He is very friendly and told me why he used a laser level to make sure my driveway would slope correctly, and basically explained all he did to make it a superb job that will last me for many years. I was very satisfied with the price he charged, which was less than other competing bids. In addition, he arranged for the concrete delivery and finished the surface very nicely to match my existing driveway. I plan on using his services for my next project, which will be an outdoor deck. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
