Roy and the gentlemen he works with, Sean and Tyler, are great people to work with first and foremost. They are extremely professional, perfectionists and their work shows their integrity. They listen, make great suggestions and are willing to go the extra mile. We were building our home were working with a few unruly contractors that weren't living up to what they promised and were falling way behind. One night we Googled contractors and ran across Thumbtack and Royal Home Renovations. We reached out to Roy who came out the next day to look at our project. I had estimates within days and he and his crew started on our home almost immediately knowing the timeline we were under. They had a full workload but again, they made sure that we were treated like a priority. He also has a great network with other contractors which shows his work ethic and personality. Here is the list of work they accomplished on our home: Trim, Molding and Baseboard Hung Doors, Door Fixtures Including A Sliding Barn Door and Pocket Doors Acacia Wood Floor Brazilian Matte Porcelain Floor Carpet Marble and Concrete Zero Entry Shower Closet Shelving Bathroom Mirrors Stacked Stone Around Kitchen Island Shiplap On Fireplace Wall Tile Backsplash In Kitchen Custom Backsplash In Wet Bar 3D Marble Accent Wall Exterior Siding Epoxy Garage Floor I have attached a few pictures of the work that was done on our home by Royal Home Renovations. I was limited to the amount of pictures I could attach, wish I could add more pictures of their work. Roy, Sean and Tyler definitely came to our rescue and we will be forever grateful.

I have hired Kurt for a number of different jobs in the past year and he has exceeded my expectations every time. Kurt has remodeled my master bathroom, including the shower, helped to repair a hot tub, doors, windows, and more. In addition to his excellent work, Kurt is polite, professional, and personable. He prompt with his work and his prices are reasonable and fair, especially considering the quality of the results.

Replaced garage doors, new track, spring system, door hardware. Replaced garage door openers. Removed old doors. I sent an email on 10/27/16 and David came out an gave an estimate. 10/28/16 two techs were at my house on the job. All three Techs were polite, let me know what was going to be done. Excellent job. I have already told friends and family to call David at Premier Garage Door Solutions. Great Job, and wonderful attitudes.

Dan was able to see me within a couple days after first contact to install a 6-paneled interior door in the basement. The 1963 construction proved problematic at times, but Dan was able to come up with a solution. The door looks like it's always been there and really defines the living space. Very thorough, professional, cleaned up at the end of the day. Would recommend.

Tony worked very hard to fix the front door unit. He even left to get some additional parts to complete the job. I thought he was very personable, and really enjoyed chatting with him while he worked. I was very surprised to find that this was his very first job through Thumbtack. I should also mention that I scheduled the work for Saturday at noon, but in talking to Tony about it on Friday, he indicated he might be able to make it Friday afternoon - which he did. I was very happy to get the work done early!

Bryan was very good at communicating with me at every turn. The subcontractors were all very polite and did their work well. We had a new front door and storm door installed that took a lot longer than expected. Also, the small amounts of material I'm finding around the house is a little concerning. Other than that the quality of work is what we wanted and the price was perfect for us. I would recommend Bryan to others.

We hired Paladin to do finishing work on multiple overhead garage doors around our facility. They were knowledgeable, and willing to ask questions to clarify any issues! This was vital to the eventual success of the project. They were flexible with my upper-management requests, including following CTPAT procedures. It was exactly what we needed!

It turns out, you don't need heavy equipment to take down a garage. They did it with a reciprocating saw and lots of lifting, and got it down in a day.

We have been using United Services for the past three years and have been extremely satisfied with the service, quality of products, pricing and customer service. Our latest home improvement, the exterior of our home, was updated with James Hardy siding, 6 inch gutters, painting, roof and exterior doors. The service we received from Mark Passer and his crews was outstanding. They went above and beyond to ensure we were satisfied, made adjustments when required and ensured we were keep up-to-date as the project progressed. We have no hesitation in recommending United Services Home Improvements for all your home projects.

We are putting up our house for sale and wanted to get it painted a neutral color. I got wonderful insights on what would be a good compromise between using a safe /quality paint (I have a 2 month old) but not go totally overboard with the cost. Both Billie and his painter Andrew were a pleasure to work with. They got the job done well and fast in midst of our chaotic household. I can't thank them enough for not only the work that they did but for being patient with my older one following them around! I'm going to have them come back and paint the garage doors when the weather improves. I would highly recommend them.

What wasn't there to like about R&S Exteriors? Bob was very professional and very thorough with his quote. He answered all of my questions and I didn't feel like I couldn't ask a question. His team of guys that did the siding were very nice, friendly, and professional and really took their time to do the job right. The next day the gutter guy came back and installed new gutters on the house and garage. The entire team from R&S Exteriors were AWESOME to work with and I would recommend them to anybody. I know if I ever need anything else done on my house I would definitely call them again! Thank You to everybody that was involved with my siding and gutters - you were all AMAZING!

Dan Knipe and his crew Jacob and Josh were able to really help me. These carpenters have wonderful teamwork. Also, I was quoted a very reasonable price too. I found Dan through "Thumbtack", and he came to my house with his crew to rebuild my back porch. My back porch was very rotten underneath and was in much worse shape than expected. It had to be completely re-built and a replacement wooden screen-door hung. Dan had to make hand-crafted stringers for the stairs, since an already pre-made stringer did not fit. That took a lot of time, with measuring and sawing. Thanks to these great guys, my back porch is solid, safe, and looks good. I was so relieved. I felt safe too since Dan is connected to "Thumbtack" as a recommendation. I am definitely going to ask Dan, Jacob, and Josh for more work on the house as soon as we get good weather in the spring. Everything was completely effective and a pleasant experience. Doesn't get better than that.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you fix a broken garage door?

Garage door problems don’t have to mean the end of the world. Garage door repair is typically a one-day process and can be done for only a few hundred dollars. Common garage door repair requests include fixing slow or erratic garage doors, addressing strange sounds coming from the garage door or motor, fixing cosmetic damage such as dents or scrapes, repairing broken doors that are stuck open or closed, and troubleshooting inoperable doors.

The two main garage door operating mechanisms are sectional roll-ups or tilt-ups. Garage door repair services can fix single-car, double-car or RV-height doors. Your garage door may be made of wood, steel, aluminum, masonite, vinyl, fiberglass or another material. The type of garage door repair you need really depends on the type of garage door you have and the issue at hand. Garage door repair pros often charge a flat service call fee to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. For customers who choose to have the repair done, the service call fee may be applied to the first hour of labor (including time to make the diagnosis). If your garage door is under warranty, the repair may be free of charge.

      Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How do you choose a garage door?

When garage door repair isn’t an option — perhaps the current door is beyond fixing or you want to upgrade to a quieter, more energy-efficient model — it’s time to buy a new one. But choosing a garage door is not as simple as it sounds, even when you know the right size for your home. A wide range of materials, styles and finishes are available, and each factor influences the cost. Garage doors are made of aluminum, steel, vinyl, fiberglass, masonite, wood (typically cedar or mahogany), or a composite of several materials. They may be insulated against cold or heat. Traditional and modern styles include raised panel, carriage house or crossbuck. Most styles have window or arch options, and are available in different wood finishes and neutral colors. Because garage doors account for a large part of a home’s exterior, their appearance is usually a homeowner’s top priority. An attractive garage door can increase a home’s curb appeal and resale value.

How much does garage door repair cost?

When a garage door goes off the track, the spring breaks, the door is dented or the garage door opener is on the fritz, a professional garage door repair specialist can help. The cost to have a garage door fixed varies, but the national average cost of garage door repair is $70-$110. The extent of the damage and the size and material of the door will affect the final cost. A garage door repair company generally charges a national average of $80 for a service call, which includes the first hour of labor and service, such as testing and inspecting the garage door and opener. Apart from labor, the garage door repair costs hinge on buying replacements parts. For example, a new spring costs an average of $60. Expect to pay several hundred dollars, though, if the door is beyond repair; a new garage door ranges in price from $200 to $4,000, and most homeowners spend an average of $800-$1,200.

How much does it cost to install a new garage door opener?

Your new garage door opener cost will vary based on the model you purchase and how long installation takes. Typically, installation pros charge by the hour, although if the pro is also selling the garage door opener they may have a flat fee for the product with installation. The national average for new garage door opener costs (with installation) is between $390 and $650, although the national average cost for the opener purchased alone may be in the $150-$300 range. The three most common types of openers are chain-drive, screw-drive and belt-drive. The chain-drive costs the least but makes the most noise. The belt-drive is typically the quietest and the most expensive. You can expect to pay about the same amount for installation for any of the three styles. The lifespan of a garage door opener is approximately 10 years, depending on quality. A pro may provide opener repairs for the cost of their service call fee or they may charge a flat fee, such as $100 for opener repair. Here are some examples of new garage door opener average costs, including installation:

      • Contractor-grade garage door opener with installation: $300.
      • Chain-drive opener with installation and one remote: $350.
      • Belt-drive opener with installation and two remotes: $400
      • Top-of-the-line opener with ¾-horsepower battery backup, belt drive and nearly soundless operation: $475
        • The majority of higher-end garage door openers are “smart” products and will connect via app to your smartphone for remote access.
