Introduction
Joel "Mr. Hook" Hoekstra is a graphic designer and freelance illustrator who currently resides in Omaha, Nebraska, USA. He graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 1995 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (cum laude). His major was pictorial illustration, which emphasized a problem-solving approach to various illustration tasks.
Before switching almost entirely to digital media, Mr. Hook was trained in many different traditional painting and drawing techniques (such as oil paints, water colors, etc). During his college years, he preferred to work mostly with acrylic paints and colored pencils. Most of his current artwork strives to mimic traditional acrylic painting styles with image-manipulation software (such as Photoshop) and 3D modeling programs (such as SketchUp).
