I hired Steve and his group to perform two jobs: steam spraying/oil stain removal on my very large driveway, and steam cleaning/mildew removal on my asphalt shingle front roof. He was extremely professional and dedicated to the highest standards. My roof looks brand new and the driveway, twenty years old, looks impeccable. Furthermore, though I had a scheduled appointment for the roof job, my home is on the market and I was asked for a showing without much notice. On a Saturday morning, Steve jumped to my rescue, knowing I wanted to have the roof looking pristine. While he was here, he spent more time working on a couple of driveway spots that needed a bit more attention. Overall, you cannot find anyone better in quality and customer satisfaction than Steve and Green Boys.

Working with Jakob is great. He's very professional while also being heartfelt and friendly. Jakob's knowledge, enthusiasm, and commitment are top-notch. We're delighted with our two-level retaining wall and have great expectations for the "grass driveway" he is currently installing. We'll be returning to Deep Green and Jakob for our future landscaping needs--with pleasure.

Ryan Labbe came to our rescue and plowed us out of two back-to-back storms in February 2017. He was a terrific help and did a fabulous job on a tricky driveway (not much room for snow disposal). His price was very reasonable and he was pleasant and great to work with. I highly recommend him!

I tried Thumbtack for the 1st time to get quotes to have my driveway Sealcoated. Harrison's paving was the 2nd contractor to reach out to me. I contacted Ricky via the Thumbtack application on my phone. He was able to come give me a quote that same day! Ricky arrived and introduced himself and handed me his card. He proceeded to walk my driveway with me to get an understanding of what I wanted done. He explained how some cracks where different than others and the reasons why those cracks had appeared. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. He told me everything that he was going to do to my driveway. He provided me a verbal quote and told me to call him if I was interested in hiring him. I called that evening to hire Harrison's Paving to seal my driveway. He promptly arrived at the appointed time and sealed my driveway. When I arrived home from work he was just finishing. He had applied 2 patches of asphalt to areas I was concerned with at no charge. He also explained that if I seal my driveway every 3 years or so that I should be able to get another 8-10 years out of it! Ricky and his Father did an Awesome job! Bottom line: They did a great job! Friendly and honest. I would hire them again in a second! -Steve Hudson, NH

I hired Randy to create some curb appeal to the front of my home. I had an idea of what I wanted and I had 3 quotes for the same job. Randy came to my house on time for the original quote and we discussed materials and the design plan. I found his prices reasonable from what I researched and he was honest about the cost from the start. It was too easy! He did a fantastic job and I couldn't be happier. I now have a paver walkway, 2 stone walls and new front lawn!! I would hire him again without hesitation!

Rob tackled two advanced installation projects -- installing antique tiles of irregular shape around a fireplace, and popping and replacing brick pavers to fix mistakes made by a previous tiler. There were many aspects of the jobs which were tricky, and only a very experienced and talented craftsman could have handled them. Rob was professional and courteous, knowledgeable about the options available, and kept me informed through every step of the process. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him, especially for unique or complex projects.

You know it's crazy that when you read reviews and all the ratings were Five Stars then you read a review that seems to me like a vindictive person. To me it's like "Wow" I didn't have any issues with JDQ. I do realize that there are some control freaks out there that once you finally put a stop to all the belittling and complaining they have to some way shape or form try to destroy a good hard worker reputation. When I was calling around for a professional handyman and builder I was so out of my realm. I spoke with many different businesses, most left me feeling like I didn't know what I was talking about and crazy for some projects I wanted complete. I even had them come to my home and what a mistake that was. Stone-age coming back in full force! I was at my dentist and there was a JDQ business card, first thing I saw that made me comfortable was that Mr. Quintal is a veteran, then I called him and what a pleasure! Of course after the last companies I spoke to I was gun shy to ask for what I want completed. Mr. Quintal suggested that he should come to my home and have me walk him through all the projects I would like to have completed. When he pulled in my driveway, about 15 minutes early, he had A tape measure, pencils and crazy builder paper. He walked me through all the steps that he would have to do to complete my projects, never leaving anything out. He didn't make me feel like I was a moron and he was very respectful. When we walk through some of the steps for the project the suggestions that he had were brilliant! I would have never of thought of it, and deftly didn't see it on Pinterest. I felt so comfortable with JDQ that once we agreed on which product to start first I let Mr. Quintal have a free-for-all to add any ideas that he seemed to fit. Before any adjustments were needed he would run it by me first and try to find the best bargain for the supplies. He is definitely the best woodworker/builder besides my father and that setting the bar pretty high! So thank you Mr. Quintal for fitting me in while you were working with that crazy lady, your full calendar and making my project dreams come true and even better that I first imagined. Now when I have company over to my house I get so many compliments on the work completed it makes me gitty and want more completed. I genuinely feel that JDQ is worth every cent I paid him. Everybody out there before you call anybody else call Mr. Quintal and I can guarantee you will not be disappointed. So thank you JDQ for all your hard work and sweat poured into my home. Your forever future customer sincerely, PIC! Happy Veteran's Day!

Gary Senecal and his crew were awesome. I had no idea about concrete and what you could do with it. After a brief talk with Gary I realized I wanted stamped concrete. Never heard of that before but then when I realized that my patio didn't have to be boring grey concrete, it could "look" like cobbletsone or pavers or bricks I was like a kid in a candy store. I have to admit that I changed my mind a few times before settling on the cobblestone (Sorry Gary). Then of course I had to pick a color...........decisions decisions! I did get 3 other quotes and Gary was not the least expensive but after speaking with him I knew he had alot of experience. The other companies sent out someone that looked like they needed to be in an office and really didn't know what they were talking about. Even though they came in much less I truly believe in quality work especially when it is something that is permanent. I am very pleased with my patio and refer anyone that needs concrete to Gary. Thanks again Gary!

Chris from VTD Concrete replaced my garage floor. I was particularly impressed with the level of speed and detail he provided. He went beyond what I expected, he coordinated concrete mixer and even stop by The Home Depot to get all supplies needed for the job. I am considering replacing my driveway with concrete and I have no doubt as to who to call when I am ready to do that job.

Brent transformed our driveway from being a rugged riverbed of a logging road into something that you would expect to see as a roadway thru a National Park! The quality of the materials he used, based on his know how and experience, was outstanding. We've had several favorable comments on it from people who where familiar with the way it used to be. We have had a few experiences recently with various contractors, and none where as favorable as that with Brent. If you want the job done right, most economically, and aesthetically pleasing, do no hesitate to give this man the opportunity to review and discuss your project. Thank you, Brent!

Jim has worked at my home for the last three years. Each year something a little different. The first two years he built both sets of my Brick/Granite Steps. Then next year he created a Walkway from my steps to my driveway, granite mailbox post and just recently built me a large Stone Patio with a Fire Pit. I have been so pleased with his work. He is great at visualizing the job to help me understand what will look best with colors, and types of stone. Jim is honest, professional, reasonably priced, and always is here to do the work. Thinking of my next project.

George was very quick in making sure all of my needs were met and very easy to talk to. He took the time to come out and explain to me in person exactly what was going to be done before he came to do the asphalt work. The driveway came out awesome and very neat. I'm happy I chose to work with this company

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
    • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
    • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
    • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
    • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
    • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.

    What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time. When hiring a paving contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.
