I’ve been struggling to stick to a workout plan for years, I could never find anything I liked, and I finally decided to invest some money in a personal trainer and finding Joan was the best thing that’s happened to me in a long time! I look forward to the workouts, they reduce my stress and I’ve only been working with her for a few weeks and already see improvement. I was looking for a serious personal trainer for a long time, I looked for almost 6 months, trying out different people until I came across Joan on Thumbtack on a whim. After reading she helped someone get into the FBI, I decided to go for it. I've been training myself for several months to get into the NYPD but I plateaued pretty quickly. It was pretty obviously I didn't really know what I was doing to so I decided to seek help. Once I found Joan, the ball started rolling and she was ALL IN. I started with just 2x/week but I soon realized I need way more to actually develop the stamina, strength and endurance to pass the general job standard test. She trained me for 9 months before I took the test and passed with FLYING colors, thanks to get sheer dedication, intelligence and constant motivation that I very much needed. We continue to train to this day even though I moved a bit further away. I can't imagine myself re-starting with someone else after I achieved my dream with Joan. Excellent, high level personal trainer. The definition of a teacher and coach. I’ve been working with Joan for gaining overall strength for general fitness and also some additional mobility work. After several years of being misinformed by dismissisive physical therapists and less than average trainers, I finally can bear weight overhead painlessly. I can run a few miles without hip or knee discomfort. She really takes the global and full body approach. She delves deep into things outside of training too, she reminds me the time we spend together is important but the time outside is far more important. Accountability, gradual lifestyle change, managing stress levels, and sleeping and eating habits are of paramount importance and she takes care of all of that by continuously reminding me I can handle anything with patience and gradual improvement. I love training with Joan! I had never done personal training before so naturally I had literally no idea where to begin. I got really lucky coming across her before others. Joan did an amazing job building my confidence up, making me unafraid of lifting heavy weights, and basically re-educating me on everything I thought I knew but was definitely fed by society and what I’ve read in magazines. So far, it’s been almost 2 years. I could write a novel but really, I’ll tell you this: when she asked me to write a review for her, I was afraid I wouldn’t do it justice because I’m not so smooth with my words. Regardless, I want whoever reading this to know i’ve lost a great deal of weight and actually enjoyed it and didn’t dream our 6am sessions, I’ve learned more than enough to feel comfortable going at it alone, and I’ve even referred two people to her who are both in love with training now too! I’ve been working out with Joan since last Summer. I had never had a personal trainer before so I was new to this whole process. Joan made it more manageable, understandable and enjoyable than I could have ever imagined. I consider myself lucky to know her, consider her my teacher, friend and coach in all aspects. I came to her with type II Diabetes, no knowledge of how to exercise or how to re-approach my day to day lifestyle. From day 1, she was all in. She takes a really comprehensive approach and covers all the bases, makes sure I do my workouts outside of our sessions, and she still checks in with me throughout the week to make sure I’m on track. I feel incredibly supported, cared for and challenged in a positive way. I’ve since lost 35 pounds, managed to significantly reduce my Diabetes medicine, and essentially managed to completely re-wire my fear of exercise. I feel like she’s taught me all the secrets, gave me confidence and strength I never knew I had in me, and knowledge I finally feel confident in believing and telling my friends and family about. - What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Each individual session is as listed above. I provide progressively higher discounts with higher volume packages (10,15,20 or more per-purchased sessions). Prices are non-negotiable.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I start with a sit down chat to get to know you, what you want to get out of our time together, what you want to learn, your intentions, scheduling, etc. Then, a movement and mobility assessment, depending on the type of training. And finally we begin!
