When I posted my needs, I was initially messaged by four different exterminators right away. Brent stood out by sending me a follow-up message one week later with a free quote and curiosity about my infestation. I called him, and he quickly gave me a free quote tailored to my situation. He was able to answer my multitude of questions and put my infestation fears and anxiety to rest. He was easy to reach by phone throughout the process. He provided detailed instructions for me to follow before and after treatment to ensure that it was fully effective. And the 90 day guarantee ensured that if the included first and follow-up treatment didn't work for ANY reason, he would make additional visits until the bed bugs were gone. This guy moved quickly, knows what he is doing, does not cut corners, and is confident in the quality of his work - as he should be. It has been 26 days since I first spoke with Brent on the phone, and I have not seen or been bitten by a bed bug in weeks. Looks like I'm in the clear. Thanks Brent!

So far, so good! The pesky black ants have disappeared from view, and I've only seen one (not in the kitchen) since the crew came and treated my areas of concern. I received same-day service with a guarantee that if I still had any problem with ants, which I was told they'd wouldn't be back, that the cheap exterminators would return and re-treat if necessary.

I'd already settled on an exterminator, but when they called me back and spoke to me about the service and the price, I cancelled the other appointment and went with them. The work was quick, and I'm happy with the results so far.

Unfortunately, I suffered a mild flea problem. I was utterly frustrated with my problem especially knowing my pets we're suffering as well. I knew I would not be able to fight my flea problem without a professional. I ended up posting an assignment on Thumbstack. Instantly, I received a response from GreenPest Solutions. I was very pleased with the professionalism of customer service (I spoke directly to Jordan) he was very understanding and helpful. I then spoke to Wes to schedule. I had an initial appointment scheduled (3) days out. I explained to Wes I couldn't wait another night with my current situation. He immediately called me back an hour later to let me know he could send someone the same day!! I was so happy. Lastly, Jerome was my exterminator. He explained the process and made everything easy for me. I would highly recommend GreenPest Solutions. They are very afforable, professional and do a great job. I am confident my little pest are now gone!

David, owner of Everest, conducted home and radon inspection. He arranged termite inspection with BORO Exterminating. I arrived about 10 mins early for appt. David was there waiting for me. I felt he was thorough and patiently answered my questions. He took time to explain how the heating/AC system works. More importantly he identified serious repairs and possible items I should keep an eye on. The report was clearly outlined with summary in the beginning followed by detailed info as well as pictures and estimated cost to do the repairs. BORO inspection was the same day and also pointed out an issue, They both followed up with reports in a timely manner. I highly recommend Everest.

Prompt response. Very professional and trustworthy. Answered all of my questions throughly and was honest and frank when addressing my concerns. He was meticulous in his inspection, asked me lots of questions in order to determine if there was indeed an infestation and if so, what were possible ways the pests could have been introduced into my apartment . Luckily He didn't find any evidence but gave me written instructions for what to look for as well as preventative measures. And he didn't charge me! All I can say is you need to call John first if you think you need extermination services.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How do you get bed bugs and how do you get rid of them?

The increase in bed bug infestations in the U.S. is a result of increased travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices, explains the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It’s easy to mistake bed bugs for carpet beetles or similar-looking bugs, so infestations are often not noticed when they first occur. Prevention tips include keeping areas free of clutter, regularly washing sheets and mattress covers in hot water (and don’t forget to wash the laundry bag, too), and vacuuming regularly and safely disposing of the sealed vacuum bag. Not everyone has reactions to bed bug bites, which also may be mistaken for the bites of other pests such as mosquitoes, so timely bed bug extermination depends on identification of bed bug activity. If you notice physical signs of an infestation, contact a bed bug extermination professional as soon as possible to learn about chemical and non-chemical (such as heat) treatment options. An integrated pest management plan may incorporate one or more methods.

How do you get rid of termites?

The best way to get rid of termites is to act fast. Termites are a problem that will only get worse — and no matter how much you want them to, they usually don’t magically move out on their own. There are three main types of termites: drywood, dampwood and subterranean. Drywood and dampwood termites sneak through cracks in your exterior paint, nail holes, and gaps near windows and other openings and begin to eat through your wood. Subterranean termites enter your house from the ground up by creating mud tunnels. In all cases, they survive by eating the wood of your house. The type of termites you have can steer the treatment plan.

Methods of termite extermination include fumigation, use of pesticides, and use of natural elements that are poisonous to the bugs. The extent of your termite infestation will help determine the treatment method. If you have drywood or dampwood termites that have infiltrated all aspects of the wood in your home, the pest control pro may recommend enclosing the whole house in a tent and gassing the termites via fumigation. If you have subterranean termites, often the entire footprint of the home must be treated by drilling liquid treatments into the slab or foundation of the home to exterminate the colonies. In any case, once you see signs of termites, it’s time to take action and call a pest pro.

What are the signs of termites in your home?

When you see signs of termites in your home, call a trusted pest control professional as soon as possible to handle the situation. Termites feed on wood, meaning they eat through the wood that makes up the frame, floors and other components of your house. Most people don’t know they have termites until they discover the damage done, because termites remain hidden underground or inside the wood they are eating. Keep on the lookout for these signs of termites:

  • Water bubbles in your interior or exterior paint: If you poke at what look like paint bubbles and find termite droppings inside, it’s a sign of termite infestation.
  • Frass: This is a fancy term for termite poop. Keep your eyes peeled for what look like six-sided salt and pepper droppings.
  • Mud tubes: Subterranean termites move between their earth home and your house by building mud tunnels. Mud tubes under or along the side of your house or foundation are a sure sign of a termite infestation.
  • Wings or swarming near your home: As a new colony is looking for a home, they fly (swarm), then shed their wings and burrow into nearby wood.
  • Softening of wood or hollowed-out wood: Termites don’t like paint, lacquer varnish or other wood finishes, so they’ll eat inside the wood and leave the exterior finish like a shell.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

  • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
    • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
  • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.
