Krystie took great care of my 2 cats and always made sure to send me updates with photos which I appreciate. She was very accommodating and willing to stop by even on short notice. I definitely recommend her if you are looking for a reliable pet sitter.

Michael deserves the cat sitters' Purple Heart for scratches suffered giving our cat Thelonious 4 to 5 oral medications a day for homeopathic treatment of lymphoma while my wife was away. Our cat does everything to avoid medication but Michael was cool under fire as he picked up the cat from his hiding places and was very professional in delivering the medication. He was affable and relaxed under extremely difficult conditions. I hope his next cat sitting job goes easier.

(+) Suki fulfilled the expected tasks of a cat sitter -- providing food, filling the water bowl, and scooping the litter box. She sent daily photos. She was pretty quick to responding to my texts. Suki's rate/cost is affordable compared to other cat sitters, especially professionals (-) Although she sent daily photos, they were sometimes just blurry snaps of my cat's back. From the photos alone, it did not seem that Suki spent much time with him. Rather felt like she was merely showing me that she "checked in" to see my cat. I was disappointed to return home and see that the curtains were down when she said that she will make sure they are up.

Jen and her associates truly love pets. So many of the pet-sitters are solely focused on dogs. These guys really know and like cats, too. And my cats like them back.

Out of all the pet sitters I've hired over the past 14 years, Susan stands out as one of the best. She truly has a love for animals and obviously not in this business just for the money. I have a cat who requires insulin shots 2x a day and very scared around new people. She was a pro and on her own time, did some research about feline diabetes. Susan made me feel that my kitty was in good hands when I was away for 8 days. I want to keep her a secret because she's that good, but want someone who has a passion for animals and great business ethics to do very well. I'd recommend her for any of my friends who have cats or dogs.

Karen is amazing! I never ever worry about my dogs when she is here. (And i have rescue dogs one of which has issues.) I can travel and work with peace of mind. She is gentle; Dependable; Trustworthy. My dogs love her. She goes above and beyond all the time. I have had numerous dog sitters in the past. No more. This woman will always be the one i call for dog sitting. Do yourself a favor. Ditch the others and go with Karen. She’s fabulous!

I am so happy to have found Amber she was great to work with, and she sent me texts after each visit checking in on my cat. I already booked two more jobs with her. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a pet sitter.

Katy is a reliable, trustworthy and loving cat-sitter. I trust Katy completely to care for, feed and medicate our 16 year old cat. For many years Katy has taken care of him for us over long weekends to up to 3 weeks while we've been away overseas. She has always been there for us even when we've made last minute plans and over holidays. Our cat's special needs require being fed 2-3 times a day from a variety of foods which include frozen rabbit and/or chicken that needs to be defrosted ahead of time, cleaning his box every day while keeping a watchful eye he isn't blocked, and administering 2-3 medications up to twice a day. Katy goes above and beyond and truly does an amazing job, and she does so with love! Our cat does not like many people yet he has fallen in love with Katy and now runs to greet her at the door! I would absolutely recommend Katy to care for your cat if you are looking for someone who is responsible and caring too.

I have been working at Seaton hackney for about 2 years now and it is by far the best job I've ever had. The employees are treated well, and some are even sent on fabulous vacations every year as a thank you for the hard work put in. All the horses at Seaton hackney are healthy.l and cares for properly. We have two farriers that do a great job of keeping our horses comfortable and multiple vets on call that will help in any way needed. We have multiple instructors of all levels to help cater all of our clients. We teach kids as young as 4 years old to clients that wish to get started a bit later in life. Seaton hackney had recently started an IEA team with over 25 riders that travel to shows on the weekend to represent the farm and show what can be learned from our amazing horses and instructors. We have also started teaching our riders about eventing which has brought a great deal of interest to our clients. Lastly we have been voted #1 summer camp multiple year in a row. So I would encourage people not to listen to a certain Jason F who no one even knows and come and try Seaton hackney yourself.

I could not have asked for better cat sitters! They are professional, kind and are very obviously real animal lovers. Because Jorge is a vet tech I felt comfortable leaving my sick cat with him for a few days and having him administer fluids and medicines. They have reasonable prices and I totally trusted them in my home. Both jorge and another employee even took it upon themselves to FaceTime me so I could say hi to my babies.

Tammy took care of my two young cats while we were on vacation and she was amazing. She sent me pics and daily updates and when we came home the cats were calm and normal behavior... not stressed out at all. This was the first time we left them for a lengthy time. We will definitely use her in the future and fees were affordable and comparable to other sitters.

Don't look any further! Peggy is just brilliant! Not only a great pet sitter but a lovely person. I have had many pet sitters in the past and I didn't know this kind of service was possible, she provides daily updates and cute pictures while we are away, she buys Rosita (a tiny chichi) yummy treats and gives her tons of love. She is so responsible, sweet, experienced (she has a big bunch of rescue pets herself) and caring that my dog misses her and of course she stops by once in a while to pet her and let her know she is still around. We feel very lucky to have her in our lives! :-)

I have worked with several dog trainers in the past and Ms. Fukumori is by far the most capable. She is direct and quietly assertive. Her methods are straight forward and our dog immediately responded to her authority. Several days later our mutt is a changed dog, much more manageable. Highly recommend her.

I can not recommend Dean enough for any service. Specifically, he was my children’s nanny and my house-sitter/pet caretaker for two years. He is responsible, tidy, considerate and conscientious. Furthermore, he is caring and honest. There is no one I could trust more than Dean. We miss him and can’t wait for his next stay with our family.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

    • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
    • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
      • 45-minute visit: $28.
      • 60-minute visit: $32.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
      • 12 hours: $100.
      • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32.
