I am so glad I took a chance and hired Glen. His work was impeccable. Originally I hired him to take down wall paper in 2 bedrooms. They did such a good job that the work continued and became a painting project. They did fantastic job, always professional. My house looks great. I plan to hire them again and also recommend them to a good friend.

While cleaning my kitchen cabinets, I pulled off the entire heavy panel of 30 year old doors. It was a mess and I was planning a party the next night. I discovered Thumbtack online and found Joe. I sent him pictures, he saw my dilemma, and agreed to arrive at 7 AM the next morning! He arrived on time and he and a helper had it fixed in no time, better and stronger than new.I never expected such a quick resolution, and was thrilled, and now plan on having Joe do some long overdue painting on my funky old house. I’m now a Thumbtack, and Joe convert! Highly recommended.

Hello Everyone, Just wanted to share my success story with you, I hired STP and Home Decor to hang drywall in my unfinished basement the I had another contractor begin. Unbenonced to me at the time the previous contractors work was less then commendable. Joseph and his crew came into my home treated me with dignity and respect corrected the other contractors mistakes and gave me an awesome price. Now that my drywall is hung I have hired them to comple the painting and put down my new floor I'm sure it will be spectacular. I look forward to sharing the total transformation of my new living area with you thanks to Joseph of STP and Home Decor

I initially contacted Steven for a simple sink repair; however, I quickly needed other work performed. He has since installed drywall, repaired and painted the concrete in my utility closet, and installed a GFI outlet in my bathroom. His work is impeccable. I highly recommend Get a Project Completed. And will happily request his professional contractor services in the future.

Excellent work and priced well. Brad and his crew are friendly, professional, highly skilled, and cleans the job site after the project is done. So satisfied with the painting job they did in our basement that we already coordinated with Brad for our other home improvement projects.

My husband and I needed to "update" our family room ceiling by removing the textured finish and fake wood beams. The only way to accomplish that was to completely remove the ceiling and replace it with new sheet rock, trim, and paint it. We were extremely pleased with the professional manner in which Jonathan and Michael discussed the work involved and the subsequent receipt of a comprehensive written quote. Their price was very fair and we were scheduled within our time frame. The crew arrived promptly and demolition was accomplished in no time at all. The sheet rock and trim were put up, painted and the entire project was completed in a few days' time. The final product is absolutely gorgeous!!! Father & Son Improvements is very detail oriented and if anything at all requires further attention after final inspection, there is no problem in getting it done. They want the customer to be fully satisfied, and we were!!! We highly recommend Father & Son Improvements to anyone requiring first quality improvements.

Christian is a very trustworthy and professional painter. He takes much pride in his work and happens to be a jack of all trades. His cleanliness is a great asset considering painting can become very messy. He moved my furniture and just showed the upmost respect for my home and property. His painting was very beautiful upon completion and my family has already scheduled more jobs for him to complete in the near future!

all I can say is that she is conscientious and meticulous. she redid my cabinets from the boring light oak to a rich dark maple leather look. they are the most beautiful cabinets again at a quarter the cost of new cabinets. she came out about 4 times after the job was completed because she kept seeing small areas that didn't meet with her approval. she suggested painting the dining table to match the cabinets. that came out perfectly. she is busy so better put your name in fast. what a find.

I called Minerva Finishes because I saw that they are experts at Faux Finishes. I wanted to have a faux finish door in my living room. Doug and team did a beautiful job! They were professional and responsible. Most importantly, they were neat and clean during the painting and cleaned up after they were finished. It's almost like I got two for one service: Painters & Cleaners I would highly recommend Minerva Finishes!

I had a great experience with Solid construction! We reached out to multiple firms for quotes on Monday, and we needed the work done within the week. Anatoly responded right away, met up with us on Tuesday, gave us a quote immediately, and started working on Wednesday at 8am. Wednesday evening we went to look at his work, and the quality was superb. It was flawless and beautiful, and he took care to protect our place so there were no random drops of paint (found from previous painters we've worked with). We even decided that we wanted to change the color on the accent walls, which I know throws a wrench in the project and schedule. We emailed Anatoly at 11pm, and he promptly made the change and started with new colors the next morning. We are waiting for the project to be completed (by tomorrow), but we are so impressed with his responsiveness, quality of work, and customer service in general, that I couldn't wait to write him a review. I would hire Tom again in a heartbeat, and I would recommend him to everyone I know. He is such a professional who does great work and is a pleasure to work with. Thanks, Anatoly!! If I could give Tom 10 stars, I would.

I had Angel do window washing on my three story home and touch up painting. He did an excellent job; really paid attention to detail and took his time doing the work. He also cleaned my window boxes for me without charging extra. His price was very fair for the amount of time and his quality of work. I would definitely recommend him.

When first discussing my requests, he had patience as I couldn't decide or changed my mind. He also had many good suggestions. I was very happy with two bathroom makeovers, to painting, to woodwork, to clean up after every job. He's friendly and takes pride in his work. I highly suggest him for your job. Thank you.

I put my house on the market, and within two days had the selling offer. As in any real estate transaction, there’s a laundry list of repairs that are negotiated. I needed a variety of different disciplines in a short period of time. Nick was recommended to me through a friend as someone who does quality work, reliably. He was able to come to my house right away, and told me what was within his capability and what was not. Fortunately, he was able to do almost everything that was on the buyer’s demand list. These items included masonry, electrical, plumbing, duct work, painting and miscellaneous odds and ends. At the very end, the buyers then claimed that the “forgot” some additional items. Nick was able come through for me in that pinch as well. Again, he was up front and honest with what he could help me with. He was at my house when he said he would be, which was critical and time sensitive. And the job was completed with no mess and cleanup left behind. Not only was I happy with his workmanship, but the buyer was too. He’s a great guy and I highly recommend him!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
