Katie is an amazing fitness trainer, and even on my first session with her, I felt a huge difference in my body and felt like I could really achieve my fitness goals. Katie is patient but assertive when you need that extra kick, and she really has a good intuition for what your body needs. I would never hesitate in recommending her to anyone who needs a great workout and the best fitness results!

I was concerned that hiring a life coach would be too costly to help me past anything beyond the earliest stages of my project. But Judy’s coaching services are structured in such a way that I I can engage her not just for helping me with short term goals, but for helping me achieve long term goals as well. That knowledge, paired with Judy’s skilled and insightful guidance, has allowed me to finally trade the paralyzing sense of being overwhelmed with the clarity of having concrete, achievable goals. Judy’s particular intelligence makes her an invaluable coach for anyone who is undertaking a sprawling, intellectually intimidating, creative endeavor.

Tom has shown that he genuinely cares about how, when, and if I progress. He is invested in whether I actually achieve breakthroughs toward my personal success. Considering that my goals are so immense: to metamorphosize an ashamed, unhappy, ineffective, & lonely guy, with limited professional influence, into a proud, happy, effective, socially fulfilled, & profoundly influential version of myself, it would have been easy for him to give up on me. Even though I'm confident many life coaches in his position would have terminated our relationship months ago, dealing with such a high-maintenance client as myself - expressing to him hundreds of suggestions / criticisms / requests, expecting a personalized experience that caters to my individual needs, and offering frequent pessimism or guarded skepticism at best - he has been patient, flexible, & determined to support my progress. It has been several months since Tom started coaching me, and I have consciously delayed writing a review until I might have a sense not just that he cares and won't give up (after all, that's part of the job description), but that he will actually help me transform myself, in ways that countless others haven't. I have worked with therapist after therapist for years & years, undergone treatment with psychiatrists, hired dozens of countless project collaborators and personal assistants, and tried more times than I can remember to count on the support of family and friends in order to help me make the steady progress needed to break out of a deep debilitating personal rut that has lasted for decades. All of the above have been unsuccessful. I naturally wasn't expecting Tom to be any different. But I gave him a shot, deciding that I deserved a chance for renewed hope. I almost gave up on him and on myself, but he didn't give up on either. And finally, after months of 'blood, sweat, and tears,' I have come to believe there is hope at the end of the tunnel. I'm beginning to make steady transformative progress, and I'm looking forward to the journey that lies ahead. Prerequisites for success: I have to be patient, make a few reasonable leaps of faith, and make an investment in my future, emotionally and financially. I also have to be an active participant and be willing to gradually take the reins myself. I finally have to accept his limitations, while recognizing and counting on his strengths. His limitations: Tom is not a miracle worker, and in comparison to others I've worked with, he's not the most charismatic, inspiring, eloquent, forward, original, perceptive, intellectual, tech-savvy, exciting, or assertive. But his STRENGTHS far outweigh these limitations: He is persistent in his efforts. He is determined to be an ally on the road to victory, offering extra support when needed, never conceding defeat. He is compassionate, showing empathy for my experiences & struggles, frustrations and pain, & and my initial often-pessimistic attitude. He is patient, and will put in the time to understand, listen, and reevaluate / regroup when necessary. He is humble and modest, not expecting recognition, praise, notoriety, credit, or gratitude for going above and beyond. He is affordable, & ends up charging far less money than he could for his time, and far less than any of the other life coaches I considered, let alone being a mere fraction of the cost of a therapist or psychiatrist! He is respectful, as a friend would be, but sensitive & honors any boundaries I set. He never speaks down to me. He is honest, and when requested, very candid about what he thinks needs improvement, more, focus, or a shift in perception. He doesn’t rub me the wrong way as a salesman might, as though I’m a source of income, but always treats me like a person who deserves to achieve his dreams. He is passionate about helping people. He works very hard, often going above and beyond what others would do, putting his clients ahead of his personal life. He is fair, respects agreements, honors his word, readily forgives, and shows lenience. He is creative, willing to try to approach problems from new perspectives and angles. He is open-minded, willing to work with approaches and systems he’s unfamiliar with that I know are likely to be effective. He is trusting, and gives me the benefit of the doubt, while also helping me to become more accountable. He is reliable, and I have been able to count on him in ways I couldn’t count on therapists, employees, mentors, friends, & family. His system of "open access" helps me throughout the week, and this unique system of coaching has been the key to my success, helping me beat procrastination and not lose sight of my goals. He is flexible, & accommodates limitations, changes, and conflicts with my schedule, deficiencies in my attitude, and treats my perceived failures like learning opportunities to take a new, more promising approach. He is resilient, and puts up with much more than necessary for someone in his position, and never complained once to me about it. Finally, he is kind, complimentary, and friendly. He's like that 'conscience on your shoulder.' I would recommend him to anyone who is considering hiring a life coach, or to anyone who has unfulfilled dreams they know they deserve to and could achieve, but haven't. Thank you, Tom, for your efforts, and quality work :)

She is a very good therapist. She always responded promptly to phone calls/text messages and was very flexible with appointment times and dates. She was also available to do sessions over Skype. All this was very useful in my care as I was a busy attorney dealing with serious mental health issues. Her rates became too high for me as I had to stop working but before that she did try to work with me and offer a reduced fee. Overall, great experience and I would recommend her to others.

Nick made each lesson engaging and fun. I found myself looking forward to the next lesson. He is extremely knowledgeable and always found a way to make the lesson relatable. He provided me with many useful test taking tips and tricks. As a result of Nick's coaching, I experienced a significant increase in my test scores.

I've been having weekly phone sessions with Gabriella for the last six weeks and they have been amazing! I cannot say enough about what a great coach she is. She's dedicated, focused and totally your cheerleader. At the end of each of my sessions, which end with a hypnosis session, I feel capable of actually achieving all of my set intentions. There are not enough words to describe how much this experience has helped me. I had wanted to speak to a life coach for a long time and I decided to go the phone route as I thought it would make it easier to ease into the process. Gabriella has been able to help me focus on what my true goals are and to find ways to "attack" them without feeling overwhelmed. She's helped me clear the fog in my head and finally listen to me. The process is not always easy as it requires you to really be honest with yourself and also be accountable but even during the times when I fell short of my desired goals, I was okay knowing that I was on the right path. There was never any judgment from Gabriella, just encouragement. I highly recommend her!

I completely, wholeheartedly recommend Jeanine. It was my first time working with a coach and, of the 15 or so coaches that I did intro calls with, I connected right off the bat with Jeanine's warmth, intuition and understanding. She's changed my life. In our time together, I grew more than I could've imagined in just a few months. I relearned how to connect with my intuition and to act on it. I nurtured a profound, deeper trust in myself and the universe. I reopened myself to the world to be the giver that I am at my core. And I found the courage to speak my truth and step into my full bigness and wholeness of being. Her use of guided visualization is so powerful and has opened up worlds and tools that I will use for the rest of my life. Most importantly, I feel that Jeanine approaches her clients as more than just clients but as humans that she deeply cares about and roots for. I feel unconditionally supported and cherished by her. Jeanine is incredible and I can't recommend her enough!

Brent is a good communicator and has always been very professional in his demeanor, he is always on time and easy to schedule appointments with. I was a little nervous when I went to my first appointment, but have gotten much more comfortable over time. Brent is very present in the room, he gives me a lot of eye-contact, and shows genuine compassion. While it can sometimes be difficult, the work that I do with Brent has allowed me to get to know myself better, and has significantly improved the relationships I value most in my life. His office, while very simple and unadorned, has a warm atmosphere, and is very conveniently located. I have found my work with Brent to be very valuable, and highly recommend him as a coach.

Rick Gioiello has an intuitive/innate sense to coaching among other talents, and knows where the work is needed. With upfront honesty and intense compassion , he gives advice/direction making one feel comfortable and allowing that vulnerable side to shine, I have personally felt I have learned something new after sessions with him, and as a result booked a role on a short film. He has also helped me with audition clips and is an awesome photographer . He takes his work seriously and passionately and it shows brilliantly. -Gina Rados-

During the six weeks that I worked with Melissa, she was a constant sounding board, making herself available whenever I had questions or needed motivation. She provided ongoing inspiration and really tapped into the issues specific to my current lifestyle. I've struggled with my weight for the better part of my life, and Melissa was the first person I've encountered who cut through all the noise from the fad diets I'd looked to as an answer in the past. She helped me find what worked for me, and provided tools I'll continue using into the future, for not only myself, but for my family. I'd highly recommend Melissa as a Health Coach to anyone who wants to feel better about their life. Amazing!

Victoria, is quite a talent! My wife and I met with her for about 45 minutes and she presented me with a handout script for me to read out loud and then critique me over and over again until I improved somewhat, as it’s still a work in progress but I think she’s well worth the money.

We’ve all been there – no matter what type of company we have. Our staff and perhaps our Board of Directors have looked at an issue and seem to come up with the same ineffectual answer. We’re at a standstill. Being immersed in a specific industry has its advantages, but can also lead to blindness for new approaches and answers. As business owners and leaders, sometimes we need a different perspective. But who do we turn to? That’s where I was in early 2008, with a number of critical issues that needed to be prioritized, addressed, and resolved. When I met Jim Sandler of KM Consulting, I could envision the value of the excellent individual coaching. Within my first one-to-one meeting with Jim, he came up with two to three outstanding ideas to turn my upcoming fundraiser into an even bigger success. Once I saw how quickly and deftly he identified my challenges and created and proposed solutions, I realized that bridging knowledge from industry to industry was his specialty. And through that insight and his direct and clear approach, he is truly able to cultivate an inspired and effective coaching situation. His wisdom, creative angles and experience is now an integral part of how I approach and tackle short term and long range challenges and opportunities. Our arts organization is flourishing and growing, because he is helping ME to flourish and grow. Every month, I work Jim Sandler for ideas, goals and also to celebrate the successful outcomes; and it absolutely works for me. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

How much does a life coach cost?

A life coach helps clients set and reach professional and personal goals, develop positive habits, and deal with stress. Some people meet with a life coach once or twice, while others form an ongoing professional relationship, meeting regularly in person or on the phone. The average national cost to meet with a life coach ranges from $80 to $130 an hour. Some coaches offer per-session pricing, especially for one-time meetings; expect to pay an average of $100-$125. People who want to work with a coach over a period of time to explore life transitions, career growth or lifestyle changes may be able to get discounted pricing in a package. For example, three 60-minute sessions cost an average of $300, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $350, and four 60- to 90-minute sessions plus unlimited contact between sessions cost an average of $400. Some specific types of coaching, such as relationship or marriage coaching, cost more than standard life coaching. For instance, three 60-minute relationship coaching sessions cost an average of $500, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $550, and six 60- to 90-minute sessions cost an average of $650 when purchased as a package. Training and experience can also affect the cost of hiring a life coach. An Associate Certified Coach, who holds a certification that requires only 60 hours of training and 100 hours of coaching experience, will charge less than a Master Certified Coach, who typically has at least 200 hours of training and 2,500 hours of coaching experience.

Why get a life coach?

People of all ages and in all careers have called in a life coach. Life coaches are accredited professionals who can help you figure out the tangible changes you can make in your life to reach your goals; they can even help you turn your dreams into goals, if you’re not sure where to go next. A life coach can also help people find their purpose in life. Life coaching clients often have an idea of what they want to do, such as help people or work with animals, but don’t know how to turn that passion into a career. A life coach can help clients work through the options to find a clear path with concrete steps that lead to an attainable goal. A life coach can also help clients make a major career change, such as starting a new business. Life coaches can help clients develop better habits that will make them more successful, acting as an accountability partner. Life coaches also often guide their clients through major transitions in life, such as a career change or other stressful situations that are made easier with guidance from a neutral third party.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
