I've played with Jimi since the first time I picked up the instrument (bass for 11 years). Lessons with him enabled me to play in big bands and small ensembles at the college level, as well as have a steady stream of gigs when I was in school. His method of teaching is sadly growing rarer and rarer in private lesson study. Rather than mandate to the student rote musical examples which are a.) boring and b.) relate nothing about learning actual music, Jimi's approach is a holistic one that has faith in pupil's drive and intelligence. He demonstrates aspects of music theory fundamentals, and then has the student utilize the formulas he has imparted to extrapolate the rest, with his guidance of course. If the student has trouble, Jimi instructs to fill in the gaps but never spoon feeds. This method insures the student actually learns and internalizes the information, rather than becomes an automaton. Moreover, Jimi encourages the students to bring in pieces that they actually like to play! So instead of spending months hammering out a highly diluted version of a Bach morning song, the student can bring in pieces by Zep, the Strokes, the Black Keys, Rihanna, whatever! Jimi then instructs through elucidating the music theory fundamentals within the songs that drew the student to the instrument in the first place! Jimi is professional, yet laid back. I have continued my friendship with him after studying and going on to professional life. He's just a good dude to know. Lastly, and this should be the last thing you consider. Jimi's rates are always reasonable. For private study in college, I paid 3-4 times as much for a lesson as what I paid when taking a lesson with Jimi. I hope you Long Islander aspiring musicians realize what a gem you have there.
Sean and his band provided ideal lively jazz music at a local event. They were super easy to communicate with beforehand, and they played beautifully to a large very appreciative crowd. I strongly recommend them.
I briefly took guitar lessons from Josh. I wanted to learn to play with other musicians and improvise, and his jazz background is what caught my attention. The sessions were informative and Josh was very encouraging. I had to stop unexpectedly but what I learned in the few lessons I took was very helpful and got me out of the rut I fall into while practicing on my own.
I'm a video cameraman and have taped many bands over the years. Philly Heart and Soul ape the best. Great sound alll around from the horns to the vocals they have an incresdsble full sound. For weddings, corporate events or just about anything they would fit the bill
Marla Mase is an extraordinary event planner, creator of party magic and Producer! After having been in the business for a couple of decades and working in so many different venues, types of events, parties and performances, Marla has an incredible team. She’s amassed a phenomenal, devoted group of performers, artists, designers & caterers whom she employs at all her parties, depending on need and skill set. I have worked with Marla on several creative projects and events and had a ball working with her. She is the ultimate professional, but always works in a relaxed, easygoing fashion. She is open to discussion and will always brainstorm to bring ones vision to life. Recently she produced a Rock show and party in Tribeca for me that hosted an amazing band, along with several international actors, dancers and singers. Marla hired one of her designers to transform the old Tribeca firehouse into an underworld of sea creatures and magic. It was spectacular. The food was a beautifully abundant array of hors devours and beverages. Hailing from Tribeca and having worked in the New York area for so many years for hundreds of high-end clients, Marla is truly cutting edge. She has an eye for the unique, and is able to adapt to the vision of her client. Marla really gets the job done. She’s personable and lovely and I always feel I’m in good hands with her at the helm.
Thank you, Jonathan to you and your guys for playing such a good music with exceptional quality. All guests (young and older ones) gave me very good comments about the performance. We all enjoyed the selection of songs, the quality of play as well as the fact that all guests could sing and play together with the band. Also, appreciate your guys help with the little hiccup on the event schedule we had and adjusting yourself to our needs! Thank you again for the unforgettable night!
Chanan was a joy to work with! Knowledgeable and skilled and very creative. He helped produce a record of sacred music for me and also provided back up guitar for my band when needed a few times in Dallas. He is an exceptional engineer and guitar player with a fine ear for detail.
Nick was the best! We had a cocktail party at our house and his 2 group band was just what we needed, playing smooth jazz and setting a wonderful mood for the party. Punctual, professional, friendly, and an excellent musician too. I'll be rehiring in the future.
David and his band are the complete package...excellent new and familiar music, well executed with a very professional manner. Well rehearsed and articulated music.
Mike plays drums in my band. He is friendly, flexible, professional, always prepared, and talented. He is a pleasure to work with, and a hard working gentleman.
Dan's Band made our fundraiser event extra special. Excellent communication and promptness - they are super professional and arrived, set up, got to performing right away...and took very little break time. You can tell these guys really enjoy what they do. When the time came to finish, they asked if I wanted them to keep going for a bit - totally appreciated that. Oh and they sounded great! Real talent and the price was right. I am literally looking for additional events to use them again.
"Riddim Licensing" Jim and his studio band HiFi Rockers served me up some of the most authentic sound reggae.. I was delighted and I was treated very well throughout the whole process. Jim is very knowledgeable in the reggae music production and sound. Not many people can pinpoint the exact tonal characteristics these days. I have found that they don't use much vintage equipment so again, it was a great surprise to hear such impeccable work. The band is super tight, like glue. They are extremely knowledgeable on how to phrase reggae correctly but also understand the fundamentals of music in general. I will definitely use them in the future for a full production.
Fun/energetic band. Get you up and off your seat. Love their sound !!!
I first heard Bria’s band at local coffee shop one weekend. I enjoyed them so much that I invited them to perform at my wedding reception! They were on point! They had everyone dancing...even my grandma. They were so easy to work with and very professional. They customized their set to fit what we requested. I couldn’t have asked for anything better. I would definitely recommend them to anyone !!!
The band was fabulous!! We danced and sang and had an all around great time! Very professional.
