We needed a roof leak repaired, as well as water damage to one bedroom wall--drywall and paint. Arthur and his father, Author Sr., were prompt in responding, courteous and on time. They gave a reasonable estimate, repaired the roof leak and interior drywall and painted same. They returned twice in the next two weeks to check and touch-up areas to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. Very satisfied with the results.

I hired Brian to complete some interior texturing and painting. He was timely with the work and the work looks good, other than a large stripe of paint left on a toilet. To be fair, it wasn't obvious on the back side of the toilet but shouldn't have happened in the first place. Cleanup was where Brian can improve most. After texturing and beginning painting one weekend, there was a full week until he returned. As another reviewer stated, no effort was made to cover nearby areas and my entire bedroom had texture oversprayed into it. Everything in the room had drywall mud on it and required laundering before it could be used again. Some vacuuming was done after the work was completed, but I have spent hours cleaning dust piles from wall sanding, as well as the oversprayed texture. I would recommend Brian due to his timeliness and finished product, but he needs to work on prepping the workspace and cleanup to provide a better overall experience.

The work Power Construction performed was on our 28 year old deck to repair some rotten wood in the structure. They also repaired the stairs that give access to the deck. Part of the deck repair involved a difficult and complicated procedure. They consistently under promised and over delivered, showed up on time, cleaned up the job site daily and did an incredible job on the deck and stairs. We also had them do some drywall/painting with identical results. Very impressed with Power Construction. We're on their schedule for more work and my only regret is that I did not find them sooner.

Jaime did an amazing job! He did drywall work for us and tiled two rooms with Saltillo tile. He matched it to the hallway tile and it looks great. His work is impeccable. I highly recommend Jaime and will use him again if we need any additional work done on our place.

Awesome experience!! Master of All Trades is not just a catchy name it's the end result. I was unfortunate enough to have suffered damage to my roof which caused exterior stucco and interior drywall damage. I filled a claim with my insurance company "who were not at all interested in paying out for my loss" Jodi Trujillo was able to explain to my claim adjusters how and why my loss was valid. Had this not happened I would have been out of pocket $30K. As to their wook, it was hands down second to none. From their pricing, project handling , punctuality, craftsmanship to job completion They went above and beyond !!!!! Point blank the did what they said when they said and for how much they said . This work ethic Is absolutely unheard of in the construction trades. DO NOT hesitate to use Master of All Trades for any projects you may have. I also had them convert my evaporation cooler to refrigerated air conditioning and a new hot water heater. I am forever a loyal customer. Sincerely, Charles Mashburn

Let me start with this sentence: USE DARREN COFFMAN for your project. These are his characteristics: HIGHLY COMPETENT VERSATILE SKILLED ACROSS ALL TASKS HONEST TRUSTWORTHY EASY GOING EASY TO DEAL WITH FAIR EARLY REASONABLY PRICED I had 20 tradespeople working on my 6000 square foot house and Darren CLEARLY was the best. So many times you have one problem or another with a contractor/handyman: late, difficult personality, cheat, irresponsible, not competent....etc. etc. NOT DARREN. You couldn't want a better all around contractor. What work did he do for me? Carpentry Trim Plumbing Decking Door assembly Basic electrical installation Painting Drywall Pretty much...everything. Let me say this: I hesitate to recommend Darren for fear he will be booked up and I won't be able to find him free for my next project. Couldn't find a nicer guy. Fee? MORE than reasonable. Hire this man.

I've had Jason tile all of my bathrooms which included a remodel that involved plumbing, drywall and painting and all were done professionally, on time and within budget. He's helped with demo of a broken cinderblock wall and building a replacement fence, fixing a broken main water line and building a pizza oven and outdoor fireplace. I highly recommend him!

James was excellent all around. He quickly diagnosed the wiring and light fixture problems we were having and fixed all four issues, including going above and beyond in fixing an overhead light in the basement and replacing drywall. He stuck to his quotes and was very professional, taking extra time to acquire parts that he needed out of stock at Home Depot. I would certainly recommend him to anyone seeking an affordable and highly skilled electrician for all projects large or small.

Richard did an excellent job with the work we requested. He came out and gave a fair quote that did not change when the work was done and made sure the job was completed and met/exceeded our expectations. We were very happy with the work conducted and would use him again for any work we need.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
