Introduction: I provide photojournalism, documentary, PR, and event photography.
I have been a newspaper photographer for 6 years at the largest newspaper in Vermont, then a staff photographer for a major university (15 years) at USC (University of Southern California).
I have been doing nonprofit photography here in New Mexico, and I love it.

We had a large family group...my husband and I plus our three children and their families (12 total). It is rare that we are all in the same place at the same time. Irene came to our home the day after Thanksgiving to accomodate our scheduling challenges. She selected three different areas that would work for the pictures. Two were in the house and one outside. We shot the indoor pictures first. She took pictures of the whole group and then the smaller family groups. It was great to be able to look at the pictures as she took them because adjustments lighting and position could be made on the fly. We were done in two hours...exactly as she predicted.
Needless to say, we had many great pictures to choose from. I made a list of our favorites and Irene edited them. We put all 200+ images on our computers. This is quite different from other photographers who 'own' your pictures after they take them!
Thank you Irene! We will absolutely have you back next time we want to have pictures taken.

Irene was perfect! Kind, professional, unobtrusive but thorough. From the moment we met, she felt almost like part of the family, and by the end of the reception, she absolutely felt like part of the family. Her photos were beautiful and captured the feelings of the entire event perfectly. I absolutely recommend her services 100%, no matter what the occasion. Thank you so much Irene!

She showed up early and did exactly what I asked her to do, she was a photo journalist telling our story. Not every shot was flattering to everyone, some shots were a little blurry but that is life so it was perfect! She gave us all of the photos for us to do with what we want for one rate. I highly recommend Irene to catch those moments you thought only happened in movies or were set up shots, they aren't. She catches every look, laugh, tear, and childs' smile. I recommend her for smaller weddings less than 150 guests because it is just her and larger weddings people may get between her and the shot without realizing it.

In 2011 we employed Irene Fertik to chronicle our daughter's wedding day. From the bridal party preparations thru the formal family photos to the dinner, dancing and cake, Irene was a delight to have with us. She was the picture of discretion and yet everywhere memories needed to be captured. She had a finesse and tactfulness about her that put guests at ease while coaxing fabulous photos from us all. Her shots were just stunning; my favorite was the couple taking their vows in brilliant sunshine, their tux and white gown, clasped hands and earnest faces set against the subtle hues of the antique wooden-boat that was the focal-point of the dais. It really captured the moment for this family of sailors. I could not recommend Irene more highly.
