Rick was awesome! I recently moved into a new house, which is much smaller than the last one. I needed help moving a bunch of large furniture from inside the house into the garage. Rick responded to my project within minutes of it being posted and within an hour he was at my house. He was super professional, courteous and personable. We were able to get the stuff moved into the garage quickly and he even offered to drop an old sofa I didn't want any longer at GoodWill. I have a slew of other projects I need to get done around my house and I plan on using Rick. I highly recommend him! Thanks again Rick!

DI Salvo Services was available to paint my house soon after I got in touch with them. They worked with me to select the correct colors according to my HOA. They pressure washed my house one day and came back the next day to paint. I appreciated that they put in the time to do a good job. They even helped install spikes to keep pigeons off our windows. We are very happy with the final product!

Al was great. He was responsive and easy to schedule a time with to get together. He’s down to Earth and clearly has experience in many trades around the house (He was at my house to repair drywall but took on a job to fix a fan and succeeded with ease). He was courteous and even made a trip to the store to get paint and a part required for the fan. I was happy with and trusting of his character to leave the house for over an hour to take care of some errands. No complaints whatsoever. Let him be the one to take on your next project

Chris at HK Paint & Drywall was a pleasure to work with. He came over and looked the place over, not sending me a blind bid. He gave me a thorough bid that included the scope of the work needed. My house was a complicated paint job with lots of detail and prep work required. I’m also very particular about how I want the work done. I like all the screws on the switch-plates going the same direction kind of picky! Chris had the patience of a saint. He quoted and then showed up to start the job. I didn’t have the rooms cleared because we were living there when he painted but I didn’t know where he was going to start. I asked the man of the house to clear the closet as that was where they were starting and I had an appointment. I got back and all the stuff was out of the closet and Chris’s employee was working at painting the walk-in closet. I know the industry standard is to move everything 3 feet from the walls to be painted and have all personal art put away. Chris never mentioned having to move my dressers and clothes out of my closet because my guy didn’t do it. Talk about a contractor who spoils and babies his clients. After he finished that room I changed my mind on the color for the rest of the house, even though he had already bought the paint, included in the bid. Not a complaint or sigh again. I ran and got 3 gallons to get them started on the new color and Chris got more paint the next day to continue working on the job. When the painting was all done Chris asked for my approval before payment. He never collected a dime before the job. It took 8 days, he was very reasonable on price, I think too low. After I paid him he said to give him a call if I caught anything they had missed. I called 3 weeks later for some minor touch-up and he came back on his day off and worked for about 3 hours. I don’t think you’ll find a more conscientious painter or business man in Las Vegas. He’s a pleasure to work with, he has a great attitude and I respect how good he is to his employees. Would definitely hire him again, if he’d work for me again.

I has 2 sliding glass doors and frame that i needed hauled away. Jim gave me the best rate online to have it done. I texted him and he responded right away, was very flexible, and showed up at my house in 30 minutes when I finally had some time. He hauled away my doors and even cleaned up all the glass. Very nice guy.

I hired Gil to install a new faucet in the kitchen and underneath the sink change the entire wood shelf. Gil was very thorough in completing the job and I have to admit it was a challenge taking the old faucet off, but did a great job. He is very neat and when choosing the wood to replace under the cabinet he used solid wood instead of the pressed wood that was initially there. I also had Gill fix some shelving that I had in the garage and made sure the the screws were in the stud in the wall, as the previous person that installed the original did not make sure that they were in the studs. I am really happy with the service that I received as he was really friendly and his cost for the work was worth every penny. Thank you Gil and we will be hiring him again to do other work in the house.

Ruben did a fantastic job!! I had him repair an area in the front of my house and you can't even tell that the repair was needed! The stucco looks brand new and he even did a paint match for me and painted over the repair. The only thing I would say is that it takes a bit for a response but he's worth the wait. Fair price and quality work.

I live out of state and had a property that hasn't been sold so I contacted Pamela. She has been absolutely wonderful to work with! The house looks amazing! If I hadn't already signed a realtor I would have been thrilled to sign with her as well! She is very knowledgeable about what she's doing. I highly recommend her!

WVMM was hired to install two ceiling fans in our patio ceiling. Built into the back of the house, the patio has a hip roof with a wall board ceiling. There was a plated outlet in the center of the ceiling with switched power. The basic job was two install the two fans evenly spaced hitting the 1/3 spots in the ceiling using the already existing power. After checking things out, they were off to the hardware store to get the appropriate hardware. Work started immediately upon return. As with all modifications to existing structures, you cannot know for sure what you will find until you open the walls. So not everything was as it appeared from checking out the clues on the visible ceiling. One of the interesting problems: Behind one of the wall board seams where there should have been a stud there was a 24" gap of open attic, so the ceiling had to be opened to install a cross beam between rafters to provide a support mount for the fan. There were a few other surprises that made one wonder how the house passed inspection when it was built 15 years ago. In the end the fans worked fine, the work was quality, and the wallboard ceiling was repaired so you could not tell it had been opened. The pair doing the work knew the work required and were friendly and personable. Turns I had some background in common with one of them. My only criticism would be that occasionally they were a bit disorganized, such as: making multiple trips to the truck to get the occasional tool or electrical part instead of having their tools set and hardware on a cart; or, getting partway though a task and having to back up because they realized they missed a step. Hence, I gave them only a good rating instead of excellent.

For new homeowners needing quite a bit of work done on our house, we did not know where to start! From my first initial inquiry on Thumbtack, down to the last detail on our house, we had awesome service from M&R Services. Any questions we had, any hiccups &/or additional house work that was found along the way that we did not realize was needed… you name it - was taken care of by M&R Services. Robert is definitely a people person and so is his team, they were a delight to work with. Our house needed completely painted on the inside, tile in upstairs bathrooms & laundry, new baseboards throughout entire house, repair to the ceiling in the kitchen from upstairs water damage, and new toilets installed. Before meeting Robert, we had already had our floors scheduled with Home Depot for new wood laminate throughout living room, stairs, and loft, and carpet in the bedrooms. We ended up cancelling with Home Depot (what a rip off) and were given a much better option from M&R that was within our budget, and had them complete that all, too! Robert even helped us out and got our front yard landscaping taken care of, as it was very over grown when we bought the house, just out of the goodness of his heart. From where the house started, to where it is at now… wow, it is like night and day. We absolutely LOVE it!!! Honestly, that is probably an understatement! I can’t wait to get home every day and look at it. M&R Services is definitely looking out for people, they do good work, and are not trying to make a quick buck by charging you something outrageous. We had a really good experience with them and hope that you do, too!

My husband and I had recently purchased a home in Henderson, NV after moving from Los Angeles. We had never worked with an interior designer before, thinking only " rich people" use them. Having neither the time nor the desire to run all over town, shopping for furniture and home accessories, European Flair Designs with Jenae Hightower was recommended to us. What a wonderful experience it was! The first time Jenae came to our home, it was like she was part of the family. She is incredibly warm and down to earth. We spoke about what our vision was for our home as well as our budget. Which by the way, we can in under budget by $2.00!! We had four empty rooms, a great room, living room, office and dining room, which needed everything from rugs on the floor to paint on the walls, and everything in between. Janae worked tirelessly, it seemed 24/7, asking for our input the entire time. She is professional, knowledgeable and so easy to work with.We now have a beautifully furnished home, thanks to European Flair Designs. Words cannot express our gratitude to Janae Hightower for making our house a home. Five giant stars!!!

For lack of a better term, Harold is most definitely a Full Service contractor! Not only does he absolutely understand what it takes to do the job well, but he does it at the highest level of quality. I needed some rocks removed and grass planted in its place. Harold did that, and then some! I thought the rocks can just be placed at the side of the house. He saw they would serve a better purpose filling out along the edge of the yard where identical rocks were already in place. What a difference! Harold's work transformed my yard into a warm, welcoming, and relaxing place. And on top of it all, he's one of the most honest and nicest people you could hope to meet. I have more jobs planned for Harold because, when you find the best, why keep looking?

Love Pierrette! I have an oddly proportioned house. Pierrette confidently made exceptional observations on color, proportionate spacing regarding furniture and wall hangings. She was exceptionally sensitive to my uneducated concerns and patient with her explanations and observations of what colors and coordinations would be appropriate. I'm very grateful for all her assistance, as well as putting up with all the pictures of tile I sent her as I struggled with trying to find the "right" one!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
