Hired on Thumbtack
Sad to say my instincts didn't work on this one. The gentleman came to my house, showed passion for his work and gave me a more than fair price to finish my simple job.
The job:
I had water damage that damaged a wall in my laundry room, downstairs small bathroom and entry way. I had a restoration company come out and remove the drywall and dry the water damage and check for mold. Cost me $1200. To finish the job I needed drywall spackle and paint. This gentleman said the materials would cost
about $300 and he would charge me $1000 to do the job.
What happened:
I first sent him though cashapp $412 to start the job and he came by a few times and only put up the drywall on the walls not the ceiling. He said he needed more materials and I cashapped him $200. I also (for incentives to get the job done faster) told him I wanted to give him an additional $200 towards the job out of good faith.
After that he text me this:
"All the material is there u need, it'll be easier n faster if u get someone else to finish the job. Im all (explicit) on schedule and i dnt have a truck"
"All $ besides the recent 200 was used for materials alone"
"Just cnt do it man, i dnt have the proper (explicit) to do so and it shouldn't take this long for this job"
"So no nobody got burned and you $ was used for materials, so i only made 200 for labor but tbh bro thats chill , i feel blah about not being able to get this shit done adequately"
"Yeh man i tried tho"
So I had to pay someone else to come and finish the job where they said the job done wasn't even done right.
Live and learn.... He seemed like a good, honest, passionate guy but in the end the true colors showed.
