For many years, woodworking was my hobby. Professionally, I followed the typical ascention model, promoting through the ranks until I reached a senior level. Throughout the years, I always dreamed about how nice it would be to make a living with woodworking. In 2012, the company I worked for was bought by a competitor. The new owner laid off the Senior Leaders, and replaced the positions with their own people. I took the opportunity to make the leap.
The pay isn't always the best, but how many people wake up each morning knowing they will be spending the entire day doing their hobby? And, I never miss any of my son's football games. There is more to the total compensation package than just pay.
