About
With over 30 years experience as a dog behavior specialist, I offer you a wealth of techniques and options for training. Just as important, I provide the support and guidance that we humans need to achieve our goals and work through the tough times with our dogs. Training is geared toward your lifestyle and specific goals and needs with your dogs. It is not just about the dog being obedient or "under control" but really integrating into your home, work, travel, family so that you and the dogs are prepared to go and do anything together and have a positive and powerful relationship. In addition to Private In Home and Specialty Training, I am one of the only trainers in our area that offers ongoing, outdoor, Group Dog Training classes just about year round. And I'm so excited to announce our new PUPPY SOCIALIZATION classes beginning in February 2018. This off leash course will ensure that your new puppy has all the positive experiences during the most sensitive developmental time to become a properly social and attentive dog. Services offered are: One on One in Home training; Private, Semi-Private and Group Training Sessions at my training facility or in your neighborhood; Specialty Training for Therapy Dog and Service Dog (includes home and in the field work); Board and Train Complete Program (limited number of slots each year). Puppy Socialization - Obedience - Behavior Modification - Therapy Dog - Service Dog Task - Basic Agility - Off Leash Master Training

One meeting with Kat and already seeing a positive change in our puppy. She spent a lot of time with us and left us very prepared to handle our puppy after she left. Would recommend Kat to anyone who is looking for any kind of training for their dog.

Kat is wonderful! Her instructions are clear and thorough. Like other reviewers have mentioned, she uses positive communication and a reward approach. We definitely feel more empowered to start modifying our dog's behavior in a very positive way; and let's face it, she is modifying our behavior and training us, too! We look forward to working with her again.

Hi Leah! So great so see you and the dogs at our group training today. Achilles and Trevi did so awesome, and you and Amy handled them like pros. Keep up the good work. :-)

I am new to the dog world. After only taking 5 classes with Kat, Lucy, our Goldendoodle pup can loose walk on a leash, sit, stay and come. Kat also taught me ways to overcome some of the annoying behaviors like jumping on people and nipping at heels. My kids also were able to participate in the training session which has helped Lucy transition into our family. I would highly recommend her.

I recently attended her Therapy Dog class, and was pleased to find she uses positive reinforcement as her training technique. Her instructions were clear and easy to follow. The class minutes was just right as not to cause my dog or me to become bored, and the 6 weeks training schedule worked out perfect for us. I would recommend her dog training classes to all of my friends.

Kat was amazing. She took extra time to explain some training tips on the very first phone call before I even booked her. The in home session was very good. I'm already seeing results with my little dog. Kat was very loving to my dog, and he is responding well to the training. You can tell she has years of experience. My friends have already commented that my dog was behaving better. Thanks so much Kat and I look forward to seeing you again.

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

Lots of puppy training, basic and intermediate obedience and the biggie, "Behavior Modification", which is just another way of saying "how do I get my dog to stop doing....?" Over the past five years I have really added a lot of Therapy Dog Preparation and this has become so popular as more and more people want to share their dogs with those that can benefit, as well as have their dogs provide support services for themselves.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

You don't need to commit to a bunch of private sessions to get the results you want. Dog training is a process that you and your dog will continue throughout it's life, for obedience, fun, services that you need. But to start, you just need to master the basics as a handler. Once you have these, there are no limits to what you can do with your dog. Take a lesson, see if you and the dog and the trainer click and get the results you want right away. If not, keep looking for the trainer and techniques that really work for you and your dog.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

I believe there is no one right way to train a dog. There are a wide variety of techniques and the ones that are "right" are the ones that work for you and your dog - fitting your lifestyle, schedule, environment and the physical capabilities of both you and your dog.
