We are moving out of state and had some old furniture that we just couldn't seem to get rid of. We decided to look on Thumbtack for a removal contractor and had several replies, Rick gave the best quote so we called him. By 8 am the next morning, he had a full couch, a love seat, all the cushions, a full sized recliner, a twin mattress, a twin box frame, a coffee table and two end tables all expertly packed on his one pickup truck and strapped down good...nothing would be flying off. He's a Navy man with a can-do attitude and a really nice guy besides. We aren't done with him, we have more stuff to get rid of before we leave, he will be getting the call. Go ahead and call him, he's not sketchy or weird, he just shows up, shakes your hand with a smile and gets to work. Highly recommended!

Al was great. He was responsive and easy to schedule a time with to get together. He’s down to Earth and clearly has experience in many trades around the house (He was at my house to repair drywall but took on a job to fix a fan and succeeded with ease). He was courteous and even made a trip to the store to get paint and a part required for the fan. I was happy with and trusting of his character to leave the house for over an hour to take care of some errands. No complaints whatsoever. Let him be the one to take on your next project

I've experienced way too many flaky contractors in Las Vegas. It's nice to come across people that follow through on what they say what they are going to do

On time and responded to text messages. He took off his shoes before he entered my vacant home which impressed me right away. A lot of time was spent on explaining paint quality, color choice, his method of spray painting and how he would be on the job site himself to assure everything was just right. The price was reasonable for painting all the walls and baseboards on a 1,700 square foot home. He was friendly and professional at all times and made me feel comfortable with choosing him as my contractor. My expectations were meet and I am over all very happy with the paint job most of all the perfect shade of white with a hint of blue.

Ruben did an excellent job. I was unsure about using a handyman vs a contractor but Ruben was great. On time, explained exactly what he was going to do and was done with the project when he said he would be. I will definitely use him for any other projects that come up.

Mike and his crew were fantastic. We had him repair drywall/a hole in our ceiling (including paint/texture), as well as hang a large/heavy mirror and a very large framed print. I would recommend Mike for any job!

WVMM was hired to install two ceiling fans in our patio ceiling. Built into the back of the house, the patio has a hip roof with a wall board ceiling. There was a plated outlet in the center of the ceiling with switched power. The basic job was two install the two fans evenly spaced hitting the 1/3 spots in the ceiling using the already existing power. After checking things out, they were off to the hardware store to get the appropriate hardware. Work started immediately upon return. As with all modifications to existing structures, you cannot know for sure what you will find until you open the walls. So not everything was as it appeared from checking out the clues on the visible ceiling. One of the interesting problems: Behind one of the wall board seams where there should have been a stud there was a 24" gap of open attic, so the ceiling had to be opened to install a cross beam between rafters to provide a support mount for the fan. There were a few other surprises that made one wonder how the house passed inspection when it was built 15 years ago. In the end the fans worked fine, the work was quality, and the wallboard ceiling was repaired so you could not tell it had been opened. The pair doing the work knew the work required and were friendly and personable. Turns I had some background in common with one of them. My only criticism would be that occasionally they were a bit disorganized, such as: making multiple trips to the truck to get the occasional tool or electrical part instead of having their tools set and hardware on a cart; or, getting partway though a task and having to back up because they realized they missed a step. Hence, I gave them only a good rating instead of excellent.

Mike and his crew completed my requested project exactly as I asked and then some. Install drywall to finish my garage ceiling and complete paint garage. Installed new ceiling light, fixed pantry folding door, fixed and re-installed new shower fixture, removed and replaced my MANY items in the garage to start and to complete the job. Mike was professional, kept me informed of each days work process, returned my calls promptly, offered, what I thought, was a fair price, total clean up and haul away all debris to my satisfaction. I am 100% satisfied and happy with my finished garage and the other detail items Mike took care of. I will contact Mike and have already referred him to my neighbor for any up coming projects I may encounter.

You know you had a good experience when you actually didn't want the drywall guy to leave. He did a fantastic job. He applied the drywall and after it dried he came back the next day to sand it down and apply the texturizer. Everything was done and ready and his price was more than fair and he didn't have any frustration when I added to the scope of the work and his price for the change orders I wanted, was just as fair and inline with his original pricing. As a single woman, this man did not try to gauge me at all. There are many contractors who gave me outrageous prices, so beware. AAA Pro Drywall was the best in many ways! Don't hesitate to use their services.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

      • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
      • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

      • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
      • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
      • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
