About
I'm a smaller more personal company. I like to work directly with my customers to find out what their needs are and how we can best accomplish them. I enjoy welding a lot. The more decorative and challenging the better. Much like a puzzle it can be frustrating at times but very rewarding when the finished product is done.

WELDERS 1st CHOICE and TERRY will be my first choice for any welding work I or my friends may need. I had two custom gates made by Artistic Iron Works that took over 3 months to make and 3 visits to my home and after 3 different measurements a letter to the BBB. Visit by the Nevada State Board of Contractor’s Investigator Gary Copenhaver who said this work was acceptable, look at the pictures, what do you think I’m filing a complaint on them. I’m going to court now against Artistic Iron Works. I am now happy with my gates thanks to Terry and his company WELDERS 1st CHOICE. TERRY IS A HONEST MAN OF INTEGRITY AND TAKES PRIDE IN HIS WORK, AND CRAFTSMANSHIP. In 5 hours on site Terry refrabricated my gates in the blistering heat . Terry and his crew of two, cut down 6 inserts for holding glass cleaned up the welds and repainted. Cut new striker holes for deadbolts so I could remove the ugly plate that covered poorly drilled holes. Cut down post on west gate so height matched the wall and welded caps back on. East gate removed fence panel, and post. Removed all iron from house and wall. Repaired hole in stucco and block wall. Removed black silicone from wall cement. Repainted stucco and wall to match house and wall. Cut off 4 hole plates from wall section of fence. Installed appropriate 2 hole plates. Cleaned up welds and repainted and reinstalled level to wall. Cut off hinge side post from fence section, and moved it forward 5 inches. Cut plate and rewelded post level, and resecured plate in new location. Cut off one hole plate, 1” sleeve and 1 1/4 extension, between hinge post and fence. Installed more appropriate 1 1/2 material between hinge post and gate. Welded in screw hole and cleaned up affected area from old post location. Removed screws, silicone, and spacers from old post location. Removed screws and spacers from old location of posts and replaced with more appropriate 1 1/2 piece of material between hinge post and bottom of fence to match bottom rail of fence to strengthen post. Also, for a cleaner look , rehung gate. Cut down striker post , and welded to plate at proper height to match the decorative design of the gate, and concrete. Cut off tab at the bottom of striker post, as it was unnecessary, and added another plate to the top so the post was level. Moved post forward approximately 5” to match gate. Resecured plate flat to the ground. Resecured top tab with screw. Cut new striker hole for lock. Terry also repainted all areas he worked on including my brick stucco wall. He did not use any silicone to fill in bad craftsmanship. He used welds and good measurements and if corrections were needed he did the work over again. I wish I would have found WELDERS 1st CHOICE first would have same me time and frustration. You know when you find a good guy when other Welders know his work and recommend him. THANKS TERRY FOR FIXING MY HORRIBLE CUSTOM GATES. TERRY AND HIS CREW MADE IT RIGHT.

Terry came out the same day to fix the broken latch on my gate and he even added an extra support piece at no additional cost!

Very quick response. Work was completed even faster than I thought it would be. Did more than the job called for to ensure that it would be sturdy and secure...did it at no extra charge. Would highly recommend.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I did go to school for welding. I certified 3G x-ray my first year as a junior in high school. No surprise because I had been welding since I was 12. That allowed me to take Welding and Drafting my senior year. I put all my time and effort into drafting and was able to get a 2 year completion in 6 months. At that point I went back to Welding and got certified in 3G destructive, 6G, rebar, and red iron. I was the first to graduate with 2 trades completed. Welding it's self can be a hard trade to learn. Building, fabricating, installing and general field knowledge Is way harder. Unfortunately there are no schools to teach that. So in this field continuing education is really just taking what you learn from one job and applying it to the next. No 2 jobs are exactly the same and every day is a new challenge and a new lesson to learn.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I do a lot of repairs and plain gates that are for function only. I really enjoy when I get the chance to do custom or decorative jobs. It's like art to me. It's my specialty.

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I put a 110% into every job I do so I'm proud of all my work. A lot of time, sweat, and sometimes blood goes into my work. Some jobs can be hard to let go and walk away from when they're done. When you take pride in what you do it is very much an extension of you. Even after 20 years i have jobs that keep me up at night until they are finished and perfect.
