Soooo, I would give them a 5 if we didn’t have a glitch in scheduling and no one showed up on the day I planned. Was it my fault? I don’t think so, but anyway their work was superior. Woody came and installed a ceiling fan, fixed a door, assembled 2 patio heaters and a bistro set. Then George came and fastidiously sanded and applied teak oil to 14 pieces of outdoor teak furniture! It was painstaking and in the sun for a total of 12 hrs over 2 days- unbelievable work ethic. (I did offer shade and food and water)...Woody dropped in and fixed a broken chair, so I can only say the greatest things about the work that was done. Better communication would have gotten them a 5... maybe 4.8?? Use them, just communicate with Michael and not just his guys.....see Michael, I’m actually a pretty nice person.

He came in to a job that wasn't finished and he got right in and finished the job. Probably better than the original contractor. I would definitely hire him again.

My project consisted of 6 or 7 items that needed handyman repair from a Home Inspection Report. I selected Bob based on his plumbing background but he was proficient in all the tasks and found answers to how to fix if he did not know. He was diligent, detailed oriented and made sure all items were completed correctly and efficiently. It is hard to find someone willing to go into a crawl space and replace insulation and he did this awful job cheerfully!!

An intelligent magician! Needed a cat perch made for awkward site and this person made a few notes and >bang< was back at my door in a few hours with nearly finished project. Cannot believe his ability and perfection. He is Santa Claus combined with a mind reader and the Fairy Godmother. I'm trying to catch my breath. Highest rating for anyone I have ever known.

We hired Alan to fix-up and repair several things on our home in preparation for placing our home on the market. He power-washed and painted the trim on the exterior, repaired a dooorknob, a toilet, repainted our master bath and treated the mold we had, and repaired linoleum. He completed the work in a timely matter, the work is very well done, & his fees were very reasonable. He offered advice based on his experience and looked for ways to save us money. If anything else comes up we will definitely hire Alan again.

Johnny at Elite Door responded to a broken garage door at our home. Upon inspection Johnny could have purchased parts and completed the task but in an effort to save me the cost of parts called his competitor, scheduled and emergency call by them and saved me $$ for parts that were on warranty! That is service above and beyond the call and Johnny has earned me as a loyal customer for life. I strongly recommend Elite Door for any maintenance, repair or replacement of your Garage Door!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How do you choose a garage door?

When garage door repair isn’t an option — perhaps the current door is beyond fixing or you want to upgrade to a quieter, more energy-efficient model — it’s time to buy a new one. But choosing a garage door is not as simple as it sounds, even when you know the right size for your home. A wide range of materials, styles and finishes are available, and each factor influences the cost. Garage doors are made of aluminum, steel, vinyl, fiberglass, masonite, wood (typically cedar or mahogany), or a composite of several materials. They may be insulated against cold or heat. Traditional and modern styles include raised panel, carriage house or crossbuck. Most styles have window or arch options, and are available in different wood finishes and neutral colors. Because garage doors account for a large part of a home’s exterior, their appearance is usually a homeowner’s top priority. An attractive garage door can increase a home’s curb appeal and resale value.

How much does garage door repair cost?

When a garage door goes off the track, the spring breaks, the door is dented or the garage door opener is on the fritz, a professional garage door repair specialist can help. The cost to have a garage door fixed varies, but the national average cost of garage door repair is $70-$110. The extent of the damage and the size and material of the door will affect the final cost. A garage door repair company generally charges a national average of $80 for a service call, which includes the first hour of labor and service, such as testing and inspecting the garage door and opener. Apart from labor, the garage door repair costs hinge on buying replacements parts. For example, a new spring costs an average of $60. Expect to pay several hundred dollars, though, if the door is beyond repair; a new garage door ranges in price from $200 to $4,000, and most homeowners spend an average of $800-$1,200.
