Introduction: Greetings! My name is Jae Han. I am a pianist, teacher (Steinway Educational Partner), resident piano tuner/technician at the Soapbox Gallery, and the director/owner of A4 Music Center, a Brooklyn-based music center offering piano, violin/viola & guitar lessons. As an instructor for over ten years, I have seen how my joy for teaching and systematic approach translates into consistent progress with my students. Aside from the fundamentals of music, I share with my students how to develop a good practice. Gathered from nearly three decades of experience, my students learn how to make effective use of their practice time; how to memorize music efficiently; how to use reasonable short-term goals to achieve greater long-term goals; how to use self-reflection as a source of refinement; how to problem-solve obstacles on their own; and how to translate emotion into sound. Normally, weekly lessons are held in-person where students come to my studio, but under the current circumstances we have transitioned online as we find a new home. For the time being, if in-person lesson are desired, please indicate that in your message. Arrangements may be made to meet at Soapbox Gallery in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn where there is a beautiful grand piano. Throughout the year I also offer performance opportunities in the form of student recitals (currently suspended) and studio classes (still available). Many students have remarked that the performances have served as a strong motivator to set and keep goals. I have worked with students of all ages and ability; from those who are learning for fun, to those preparing for exams and auditions (ABRSM exams, NYSSMA exams, specialized middle school/high school auditions, competitions, and more). I welcome all, as long as you are motivated to learn, and have the dedication and patience for the process. If you are a beginner, I will help you establish a strong foundation. If you already have experience, I will help you hone your playing and expression. I also welcome those who are thinking about making classical music into a career. Lesson Rates: $45 / 30-minute lesson $65 / 45-minute lesson $80 / 60-minute lesson • Free 30-Minute Trial Lesson • Discounts for 5-Lesson and 10-Lesson Packages I can also show you how the piano works, as my interest in the instrument goes beyond performance. I spent two years in an apprenticeship learning how to tune pianos and perform basic repairs and regulation. Since 2016 I have been hired by professional pianists and piano enthusiasts. I have tuned pianos for recordings and concerts, installed Dampp-Chaser humidity control systems into uprights and grand pianos, as well as revived pianos that haven’t been played in years. If your piano is out of tune, I can help you there. Piano Tuning/Repairs: $150 / Piano Tuning $50 / Pitch Adjustment (When piano is more than 5% out of tune, Pitch Adjustment is necessary in addition to a Tuning) $90 / Hour for Repairs $475-$575/Dampp-Chaser Humidity Control System Installation

Piano Lessons

Learning how to play piano was one of the most valuable experiences I had growing up. It has always been something that I wanted to reconnect with, but as an adult with other commitments in life, I simply couldn’t make time for it. With more time on my hands due to Covid this year, I began thinking about how this would be a perfect time for me to start learning again but I was unsure if remote lessons were going be as effective as in-person lessons. I couldn’t be happier about finally letting go of my own doubts and deciding to take online lessons with Jae. He is remarkably skilled in communication, through both words and music. Not only that Jae understands exactly what I am looking to learn and what I need to improve on, he is also capable of delivering his knowlege and insights on music in a way that anyone can easily digest. I have been seeing so much progress in my playing and have learned so much about how music works. I’d strongly recommend taking lessons with Jae!

Piano Tuning

Jae was very precise and caring towards our pianos - a baby grand and an upright (both Yamahas). They are very happy now and sound wonderful. A true professional, your piano will be in good hands.

Piano Tuning

Jae tuned my piano - which had entirely gone flat by 30% of a tone after years of tuning neglect - quickly, professionally, and with a positive outlook. Thank you!!

Piano Tuning

We have three pianos (two grand and one upright) at our Buddhist center that needed to be tuned. Jae arrived promptly and began working on the piano. He was at our center from 10am to 6:30pm. I have never had a tuner that gave so much attention and time to our pianos. Besides the tuning, Jae noticed certain issues that required repair which was overlooked by our prior tuners. I highly recommended Jae who was meticulous and thorough. He is also fine pianist which provides a different perspective in understanding the piano.
